Sorry AUT, I finally got around to reading this article (which is great by the way) but I'm reeling from this comment made by the writer about this fine, upstanding example of elected official:

I'm not shocked by the party affiliation but stunned that an AP writer would include it as it applies to a Democrat godless, mortgage-walking, socialist! They almost always never mention the party if there's a "D" after the elected person's name.

I've been working in Detroit since January, and I'll be there through April of next year, unfortunately. What a fucking dump of a city!!! The place has unbelievable potential, but the Socialists who control the city are absolute morons. On one hand you have the unions demanding more out of their employers and running the companies either out of business or out of the state. On the other hand, you have the politicians taxing you at every possible level for everything you could possibly do. Welcome to the inevitable outcome of Socialism...
You can purchase a house for less than $10k now. In any other city, these homes would be worth an easy $100-150k. One in every dozen is vacant, vandalized or burned out. It's really a site. What makes it even funnier or sadder is that the locals haven't realized reality yet. They still vote Democrat, even though it was the Democrats and their Socialist ideals that have destroyed that city.

I have some neighbors that are retired auto workers and they were in Detroit just a few weeks ago to visit family. When they got home they told me how proud they were to be back in Alabama and what a disaster that place was. They pretty much gave me the exact same description as GarMan did.

The mayor of Lansing, MI was on Fox News this morning. If morons like him make up the leadership of Michigan, then thats scary. This guy was ranting like a child about how its everybody else's fault the automakers are failing. He was pointing a huge finger at the government as well. The same government that is pumping a shitload of our money into the auto industry. He then went on to defend the UAW and talk about how the union "built middle America". Are you fucking kidding me? The UAW is just as much at fault as anybody else in this whole mess.

The people that keep electing people like him get what they deserve. Then again it's the ones that didn't vote for a dumbass like Nagin, that will get what they don't deserve. The exact same way I feel about the presidency.
