Title: Early Birthday present has been ordered.
Post by: AUTiger1 on March 27, 2009, 11:38:53 AM
I convinced the wife to let me order a new smoker instead of waiting until June.  It should be here in 7 to 10 days.  I can't wait to fire that mother up and smoke some Rib's and a Butt or two.

If you want to look at it like that.  I look at it like this....it gives me an excuse to start drinking before 10 AM on Saturdays!  But yes, essentially I have talked her into letting me cook dinner.

I'm just messing with ya.

every man needs a good smoker.  But more importantly, they need to know how to use it.

I kick ass at smoking meat.  And truth be known.... women think it's sexy for men to grill.

for whatever reason, they're intimidated by it.  I think it harkens back to our caveman roots.

fire + meat = man business.

I agree, I have a Masterbuilt stainless smoker, it does the job, but damn it's hard to fight the temp with stainless.  It gets too hot to quick and then it loses its temp too fast.  I wanted one I could walk away from for a couple of hours before having to check on it.  I have seen one of the Smokey Mountains burn one run of coals for 6 hours and never drop below 220 and never climb above 260.  I am pretty stoked about it.

Heh, I have an old gas grill out back, and yes I am ashamed of it.  That is why it is out back behind the privacy fence so on one can see it.  She won't even light it, said she was afraid of it.  All you have to do is turn the knob and hit the igniter and boom fire.

Carl has a cordless thermometer that I bought him for Christmas - one part goes in the smoker and the other part sits up to 100 feet away so you don't have to be right on top of the smoker to read the gage on the door.  It works really well, and only cost abt $40.

Those are nice.  Especially in July when you want to go inside and get out of the heat.
