Title: Place your bets on new HC
Post by: JR4AU on November 04, 2025, 12:39:45 PM
Who you got?  Who you want?  I'm more about who I don't want at this point:

No Jimbo full stop!

Love me some Gus, but you can't go home again.

Right now my feeling on Auburn are that when the hire is made we will all go: "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?"

I’m gonna go with Jake Hudson. But only if he brings his new QB with him. Name is Chan, or something like that.
If he does, we are a shoe in for the playoffs.

John L. Smith is my darkhorse.

The lights do seem to be out with this choice…

Who ever we get we'll regret in three years...unless we don't.

Curious to know Kaos thoughts.

FWIW, two names seldom mentioned among AU candidates are both at their alma mater and making less than 6M. They are Jeff Brohm of Louisville and Brent Key of Ga Tech.

Key is getting a lot of mentions. He has southern roots and can coach.
Brohm…might be best to stay where he is.

I'm for hiring an offensive coordinator like Tech has with Faulker over choosing a guy like Sumrall that brings his own crew with him for regime change. That's what Freeze did only the offense was never really threatening with exception of the first half debacle against FUGA
We know Freeze wanted to air it out since he arrived only he hasn't had the trigger man to do it, square peg, round hole.

WRONG AGAIN! Turns out we have a play caller and a QB that can run the offense.

We might have two guys that can run the offense. Maybe we find out this weekend.
It looks as though the play caller was the issue all along.

I have PTSD and no real ideas.  I’m just glad the Beaver stain is gone and don’t ever want to think about his slovenly unshaven face again.

He was trash from day one.  Charlatan. Phony. Sanctimonious twat fluffer.

Historically, you haven't really liked any of the coaches since Chizik, and we have played in two National championships.

So. At what point do you like a coach?

I don't want Durkin trying to do the defensive version of Gus or Freeze. I like what Tech is doing only they, like Vandy live and die with King and Pavia. And although I think both would do well with Durkin I'm not convinced either of those guys can raise to the level of even Texas Tech once those two have run out of eligibility.
Try not to gasp but I do get a sense of Coach Dye with Jon Sumrall as a strong, confident delegator but that might be just old man remember when thing.
'That's right...started at .35 an hour and by god I was damn happy to get it.

Don't want Franklin or that android Drinkwicz.
Not getting Cignetti or Kiffin, Dilly or Sark, Lincoln or Chuckie, Jimbo or Kelly, Coach O or Rhett.
Urban or Nick.
Is Texas Tech a one off?
Dont think TAMU is now that they have Elko.

Wonder what Arkansas State has on the horizon.
Hey I'm just musing to pass the time.

I favor Sumrall or bringing in Key's offense from Atlanta.

I don't know why I like Sumrall or Key or even Lea but it might have something to do with all of them having played the game, their no nonsense approach and not having a genius tag.
Incidently, Lea started out playing baseball at Birmingham Southern (2001 naia champs) tranferred to Belmont, stayed in Nashville and was on Bobby Johnson's Vandy squad as a fullback. So he knows a bit about transitioning. He is 44 TODAY.

You’ll get Lil Durk and you will love it!

I don’t have a problem with a HC being a DC. Usually they hire a competent OC and leave rhem alone. If it’s not working, they find a new one.
Venables is doing OK with it as well as others.

Agree only Durk gets so immersed in it makes you wonder if he can manage the other real time aspects of the game.

I don’t have a problem with it. Young. Hungry. And runs a very creative offense. We will be strong, like bull!

I do have issue with the skinny Jean look though.

Has Lane Kiffin released any of the hostages yet?

I liked Golesh's message and energy. Welcome the offense he brings although he mentioned in his opening presser that the play calling would be collaborative. Sounds very familiar.

Was hoping for an alliance with Durkin at least for the shorterm with some of the core defense retained, particularly the front seven with some of the injured returning for 2026.
Many content to sever all ties though. That clean break mentality is fine if you are a younger Auburn fan. Wanted to see a quick turnaround instead of a rebuild.

Guess we learn more in the days and weeks ahead.
