Title: Anyone Watch Last Night?
Post by: Snaggletiger on January 12, 2021, 10:09:08 AM
I did.  I don't think I really like this Bachelor as much as some in the past.  Chelsea is pretty hot so I hope she gets one of the final roses.  Oh, there was a game I caught some of too.

The game went about like many expected.  I was not one of the many.  I thought tOSU would hang all night and we'd get one of those 47-45 barn burners.  Any real chance of that went out the window when their stud running back went out on the very first play.  Otherwise, there were two things that stood out to me.  First, Bama's QB is insanely accurate.  Yeah, he's hitting a bunch of wide open receivers, but there were plenty of times they were covered up and the ball was put where only the receiver could possibly catch it.  He will make $$$ on Sundays in the future.

The other is if Davonta Smith hadn't got injured, he might have gone for 400 yards. Holy frupp.  For all the incredibly high priced talent that Bama puts on the field, it's pretty amazing to watch an offensive coordinator that consistently puts them in position to succeed.  Smith was the prime example.  He kept putting him in motion toward the QB.  When the play started, everybody went one way and Smith turned back and went the opposite direction to catch a swing pass, which left him on an island with one DB.  It was a win every time.

We had Gus and Chad.

Watched every down of it.

Alabama has stripped all joy from college football and they have done it in a way that's hard to argue against.
Recruit the best players.
Hire the best coaches.
Evolve and continue to change and create match-up hell for everyone they play.
Rinse repeat.

Alabama won't win every game or every title, but they are the brand standard. Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Notre Dame, and maybe a few others chase after that and the rest of us chase after them.

It is the way.

Bobo looks all world compared to Gus and Chad. And I wasn't even a big fan of his offenses of the past. Now? Id take them gladly. His last 5 years in Athens, they were ranked anywhere from 8th-30th in Total O. Gus' last 6 years were anywhere from 25th-88th.

I didn't even realize the game was being played.  25th to 88th?  Gus's version of an offensive minded coach and mine are very different.

Saban came to Bama as a hired gun looking for an out. Wouldn’t stay long. Wouldn’t get along with the boosters behind the scenes. 14 years later he is still doing it.

He was a defensive guy, built a massive defense.  Won the old way early.  The league changed.  Everything got faster. He hated it, resisted it...but he didn’t let it kill him.  He completely evolved away from everything he had ever been and went to faster more agile defenders.  Still couldn’t keep up with the other offenses.  Didn’t let it kill him. Decided to do it offensively.   Since then it’s now the Bama offense winning all of the accolades.

Saban looked different last night. Looked relieved. Looked happy. Smiled through nearly the entire post game. A different smile.

I think he’s finally ready to separate himself from coaching.  When he goes, parity returns. Nobody will ever do this again.

Also, Mac was a slow 3 star QB who had very few offers. Sark, or whoever, did a fantastic job of developing the guy. He was nearly flawless on the year.

Well said. Pretty sure we never see dominance on the same level as last night. It's not that Ohio State was a soft opponent as was the case in some of the recent playoff games, it's because Alabama was just that good this season.

He may or may not have been slow, but I remember him being rated as a 4 star on almost every recruiting site.  That being said, you are right about Sark.

The kid played at Bolles in Jacksonville and was in the Elite 11 that Tua was in but let’s not bring light to the fact that we know much more about a player than someone who is actually a fan of the player’s team. Even though these fans typically know very little about football. It’s best to gloss over it.

In Athens he had huge OL. Everywhere else he was pedestrian.( as were the OL)
Give Gus those same huge OL and his offense would look pretty good too.
If we cannot recruit the fat boys, no offense will be successful here.

Can you explain what this means? In Auburn it means you come in with a lot of hype/talent but it gets/got coached out of you.

Aub and Uga were on comparable talent fields most of THOSE years. Look it up. And recruiting is part of his job. Do we not think were gonna improve over the talent had on the field the last 2 years in the trenches? We have nowhere to go but up in that area.

And...everywhere else? The one other year he was an OC at a shit school in Columbia? Otherwise he was the head guy at CSU. OC is his calling. And even at a shit school like SC (that beat Aub in 20 mind you) they produced - very quietly - the leagues leading rusher.

Im not saying Bobo is all world or licking his boots, but he's an obvious improvement over what was walked out the door....especially in the QB dept. Its not even a close contest. But youd think half our fanbase wants to trade him back in for Gus. Amnesia is hitting many hard with the Gustard Offense and trench play.

The fact remains that without huge OL he has not proven to be creative enough to overcome that shortage. Will he be able to get those huge OL? I sure hope so. But just about any decent offense can be successful with the best OL. Maybe Harsin implements his offense and let’s Bobo learn it and coach the QBs. Who knows. But he definitely was not my first choice.

I know that Boise's offensive linemen tipped the scales at over 300. Bobo is an I formation guy but the following seems to indicate that Harsin knows what he wants out of his offense.
Just needs some Jimmy's and Joe's to make it work on this level.

Our O-line did one thing fairly well this season, which was run blocking.  When they had the opportunity to go straight ahead, they weren't half bad.  Pass blocking....not so much.  Our tackles are slow as Mud Kat Bryant.  But the notion that Bobo won't have a "huge offensive line" to work with is just not true.  Brahms is a 300 pounder.  You don't need your center to be 6'7" 350.  The rest average right at 330 pounds with Alec Jackson at 6'5" 315 being the smallest.  These guys are plenty big.  As a matter of fact, they far outweigh Clemson's O-line, which may be why tOSU beat that ass.

Again, the biggest problem Bobo is going to have with the O-line is finding guys who can actually step out there quick enough to engage a defensive end.  Without that, we're going to see more of Bo Pix sprinting to the sidelines.

That is the general gist when one says huge OL.
Bobo's line has to be bigger and better for HIS offense to work. UGA had huge OL (talented goes without saying) while Bobo was there.
But in the same tone, if you had the same OL at AU under Gus' offense, you would be successful also. Gus was successful without the best OL at times. I'm not sure you can say the same about Bobo.

The bottom line is, we better recruit bigger/better OL if we even want to stay on the field with the big boys. If not, we are UT.

no doubt the 2021 season will be challenging. It won't happen overnight, but looking at Harsin and Bobo's past recruits....Friend too - they all produce big OL. In the long run, I see that being no different here.

The key is going to be recruiting and our fat, slobby strength and conditioning coach getting them in the weight room.  But I'm not sure his fat ass will be able to get out of McDonald's long enough to do that.  #my600poundlife

It would behoove Harrison to peruse the AU message boards. Obviously, you guys have tons of football knowledge, I just don’t know if there is an effective way to impart it.

He had better learn quick to listen to you guys or bam! Look how quickly you were able to get rid of Gus.

Okay it wasn't a Buick. It was a Toyota Corolla liftback and it was three years ago. His sons are big boys and were struggling with the car tire spinning in about an 18 inch rut. He told them to get out of the way, put his rear to the bumper, flexed his knees and tossed the car onto the rub of the road.
It was incredible. He was 62!

It permeates across all fandom.  Listening to sports talk this morning and a Bama fan was actually pissed because of the direction of the program.  Why? "Because they ain't runnin' the ball enough.  Theyz slingin' it all roun thuh field and thet ain't Bama football."

The next caller lit him up.  He could have just said What...the....fuck....was he talkin' bout?

This has nothing to do with complaining, but I had to lol my Cam Newton Underoos when I got in the Ford F-150 after work yesterday.  "Paaawwwl, I heeerd Saban called out there to Texas and told them not give Sarkisian no big buyout, cuz in a few years, he gone retar and wants Sark to come back and take over.  That's whut folks is talkin' bout.  You heerd anything bout that Paaaawwwl?  I'll hang up an lissen."

Fans are just stupid....real stupid.

"Dont Harsin know that BOIZEEEY Stuff aint got work roun here? Gus at least unnnnerstoood that"

My god. We have no OL. No DL. A basketcase at QB. 4-5 star WRs across the board that have done basically nothing other than a few glimpses of "ok" from Seth and Flash. And a Poor Stud RB that is gonna get his 1000 whether he's at Auburn or Southern Miss or Belmont Tech A&M State. You have wide open blue chip players "interested" in Auburn now from states that Gus didn't even know existed. You also have 4 star players - LINEMEN!! - with an hour or two of Auburn's campus - Uncommited - that Gus hadn't even reached out to that are now in the mix with the new staff. How the ever living F do you not even contact 4 star OL 20-30 mins from your own CAMPUS?

But you miss Gus. Got it.

All I can say is I like what little I know of our head coach. He seems to know what he wants (decisive) and isn't interested in keeping Auburn holdovers (fan favs) around unless they meet his standards.

I get that people want to hang on to what they are comfortable with but Malzahn wasn't advancing the program.

The money was there to reward some unexpected wins,
including three v. Saban ($1 to al.com) that just couldn't overcome the head scratching loses.

The overriding reason to cut him loose was the second guessing, lack of development, lack of consistency and his poor overall record against our rivals.

Harsin might not retain as high of a winning percentage at Auburn as he achieved at Boise State but as an old fan I'm fairly confident the man will move us past the inadequacies that plagued his predecessor.

I just read something saying the average cost of college was around $21,000 for in state universities in the 2017-2018 years.

Welcome to more dirt road fans.

And it isn't just Pittman. Our fans are as schizo at times as the other fanbase in state. Sometimes worse.

Pittman - Heeeez phayut!
Mason - Vandy sucked! Boooo, why we getting a coach with a losing record.
Bobo - Boooo. Why weez getting boom's leftovers. Plus he went to Jarwja...theyz tha enemy.
Carnell - Wait, he's a coach? I shore hope he learns fast.
DL Coach - he's from Boizze, that aint gone work here in tha ES-EEE-CEEE!
WR and LB coach - why aint Harsin DUN hired em!!! I don't like what I'm seeing.
Rocker - why we getting someone from Pruitt?
Friend - I dun heard he suks cause he is with Bobo and played at Jarwja too..boooo
Zac Etheredge - didn't he play a long time ago?

Kodi and TWILL Need ta stay THO! Theyz Auburn men. And can we brang in Coach Boom again?

These very real statements above I've seen countless times on social media are often followed with a stupid assed.... "I miss Gus already. We gonna be sorry we fired him!"
Harcinogen has put together a pretty decent roster of coaches. I am not a fan of Bobo, but if he can coach the QBs, he's worth every penny.
I just hope Corn can teach the WRs how to read a defense and find the openings. And how to get open when the QB scrambles and not immediately start blocking 20 yards down field!
