Title: Well This Is A New One On Me
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 24, 2019, 02:55:07 PM
So we've entered a time in college football that almost amounts to free agency with players entering the Transfunctioner Capacitator Portals at will.  In addition, it's become commonplace for players to sit out meaningless bowl games so as not to risk injury affecting a potential pro career.  I get that.  But this one is a

Houston quarterback, D'Eriq King, along with their top WR, have both decided to sit out the rest of the season and take a redshirt.  They both claim they're coming back for the 2020 season.  I read where King said he wanted to concentrate on getting his degree and then come back to finish his eligibility.  Okay, I guess that sounds like a solid enough reason.  Just not something I've ever seen before.  Is there an ulterior motive, or does he actually have his head on straighter than most?

Since when is it the kid's decision to play or not?  Barring an injury or a family tragedy necessitating his absence from the team, if I'm Holgo I tell the kid to pound sand.

Horrible precedent to let them decide when/how to utilize a redshirt.  That's the coaching staff's decision and will have a downstream impact on recruiting and depth charts that shouldn't be delegated to (certainly not usurped by) the kids.

I'm just gonna assume Holgorsen was drunk when he talked with King about this.

King is a damn good QB, especially for a non power 5.  His father originally said publically (Love it when dad interjects himself) that his son was transferring.  King said that's not the case and he's coming back.  The only thing I can assume, is that with Houston being 1-3 and the season in the shitter, that Holgerson said it might be better to reload with a top flight QB next year.  Have no clue.  Just a weird situation.

This is why I've always thought of you as a stand up guy.  Helping others when you have no responsibility or obligation to do so.  Kudos!!!

BTW, have you gotten that situation straightened out for me with those direct deposits?  I know it's only been 3 months and I don't want to rush you or anything, being as you're taking your own time to help me.  Is there any more of my banking info you need?

Thanks again.

To revisit, I just saw a piece on a now former Houston O-lineman, where he ripped Holgerson a new one.  Too long to post all of his twats but he basically said that once they started the season 1-3, it was Holgerson who went to several seniors, including King, and told them to redshirt.
