Title: Week One is HERE!
Post by: The Six on August 26, 2019, 09:44:45 AM
Finally, we are at week one, and I know you are like me and can't wait to see the same 11 Malzahn plays run by some new guys. Hey, defense looks stout, so that should keep the first part of the season interesting.

What's your take on the Ducks? These aren't the super fast variety you remember from a decade ago. They are bigger and more physical, but still not SEC big and physical. Will that matter?

Will Gus have his anus clenched and coach tight? Or be loose like the meaningless bowl game?

Will any of this group be so impaired by kick off time as to not care what happens?

1.  They're just so fast
B.  Gus will start out loose, then the sphincter will tighten up as the game goes along.  He will pop out a diamond if they somehow win.
Tres.  I'd wager that at least half of this group will be falling down drunk by kickoff.

I was just reading up on them a bit, and I'm not as concerned about facing Herbert as I once was.

Just about all their receiving corps is out.  That may be addition by subtraction, though, since they had something like 52 drops last season.  They've got a 6'4" guy from PedoSt coming in as their only real weapon outside.  I like our secondary to be on these guys...but I like our DLine to be disruptive to boot.

Their running/short pass game could be where they burn us a bit.  They have a good-to-great OL and return a 1000 yard back who caught 300 yards out of the backfield.

I'd expect them to go draw/screen to try to slow the pass rush.  Could expose our relatively inexperienced LBs.

Their secondary is apparently steaming refuse, so with a little protection Bo should be able to get the D loosened up with his arm.  Hopefully, that paves the way for a committee of fresh legs in the 3rd and 4th to wear the Ducks out.

Early prediction:

Tigers 27
Ducks 13

Uno.) They're just so fast
Deux.) What he said^^^right up there.
Next.) Maybe falling down by the 3rd quarter because I've got to grill for a lot of people before the game.  But then Gus will have me drinking at a liver exploding pace.

I would love to see that happen, but I fully expect to see Los Tigres jump out to a quick 10-14 point lead, then slowly let them back and either win or lose on the last possession.
No idea where I would get that idea, but...

With Brown, Davidson and Coe, that's as solid as it gets in the college foosballz.  I know I'm being picky and maybe a bit greedy, but I still think they are missing that speed guy off the edge.  A Dee Ford or Carl Lawson that will come around that end running like he stole something.  If he didn't get the QB, he made him move just about every time.  I was hoping Big Kat would be that guy.  Do we have anyone that might fill that role?

I'm not getting warm fuzzies.

2018: Listed second on depth chart at buck … 11 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks for season … pair of tackles vs.. Alabama State … 0.5 sack vs. Tennessee … three tackles, TFL in Texas A&M win … sack and forced a Liberty fumble ... two QB hurries vs.. Purdue in Music City Bowl

Agreed his prior performance hasn't been jaw-dropping.  I'm just reading tea leaves (aka: RGarner's comments).

I expect to see Coe in the backfield a lot this season...especially if they can build depth at tackle early in the season.

Would love to see it.  I know they envisioned it and talked about it early in his career.  If he or someone else can step up and give us that burst off the edge, those other 3 are going to avoid a bunch of double teams and wreak the havocs.

Squeak by. Winning FG hits upright and goes through.

Gus puckers. Rinse...repeat.

I for one think Auburn is going to kick those Duck sorry asses.

I started out thinking along the lines of Wes, slowly reverted to Buzz and finally CCT to where we bang a FG off an upright to survive...because Gus.

I think my lack of confidence goes back to the Washington opener although we have much more game experience with the returnees up front on both sides.

Big edge presence is missing so I think Steele does it by committee, adding Pappoe.
Really like our secondary so we might not be too vulnerable.

We should have our greatest advantage against "steaming refuse" (Wes) where we could expose them the most.
But then we have a freshman QB in his first game.
