Well, it looks like the trend continues and is only ramping up with regard to players skipping bowl games. 3 of Meat Chicken's top players are opting to sit out when the Wolverines face Go Gaytah. Bryce Love will follow the lead of former Stanford teammate, Christian McCaffrey, and stay home. LSU will be without the services of both starting corners with Greedy Williams sitting and the other one injured. Looks like UCF will get less than an SEC team's best again; however, their starting QB is done too.
There's a long list of others around the country. I hate it. But I get it. I love Bowl season and don't care how watered down it's become. Hell, I watch a little MACtion on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I just like having some foosballz to watch. But the fact is, that watering down seems to make them less and less important every year and if I even think I'm a 1st or 2nd round pick, no way I'm going all Jake Butt and risking my future. Butt was the Michigan TE that was a projected 1st rounder and in the meaningless bowl game, tore up his knee. I believe he dropped to the 5th round if I'm not mistaken.
We can make excuses all we want and Auburn should have never lost to UCF last year. But, the reality is the team didn't care about being there and several key players either sat out or had mysterious injuries. And why Paul Holland even played is beyond me. He hurt the team as much as anybody else. The SEC sack leader didn't even remotely attempt to do anything other than be a warm body and occupy a space out there. Anyway, it looks like this is going to be the new thing in college football.
In other news, not good for Auburn, Oregon QB Justin Herbert decided to return to the Ducks for next season. The 6'6" 230 pounder is fairly bad ass and was projected as a high first round pick. Can't wait for the opener next season.

Holy HELL!! Had to be one of the worst games I've ever watched. And I did watch because I couldn't find anything else on the other 947 channels. I couldn't turn away from the 27 interceptions in the first half alone.
The only good thing that came out of it was I found out cheese doesn't have knees.

Good stuff here. I watched to it was bad. It caused me to drink half a bottle of Christmas gift Bulleit. So I forgot most of it.

My favorite line in that.
The words “he doesn’t have full use of one of his feet†was uttered by the broadcast booth regarding Justin Rogers.
-
Is it an OCD fear to think the the Bowl games will get even more watered down than they already are? What I mean is, it seems more and more players are opting out of Bowl games. You know, the ones are bad azz. I dont know, I fear that my favorite sport in the collegiate level will continue to get more and more like some semi-pro imitation. That equals not fun. I understand these are looking out for their best interest but dayum lets have some heart for the college that got you there, ya know. Simp out.

I forgot to mention Will Grier and their best O-lineman will forego the bowl game. Seriously, WVU without Will Grier. Why watch?
Again, I get it and I'd probably make the same decision if I were right on the verge of a big pay day and potentially securing my future. What I'm afraid we're going to see more and more of are players taking entire seasons off. We've already seen Nick Bosa at THE Ohio State University basically say he's not going to try and rehab an injury and get back this season. I think he just dropped out of school altogether to concentrate on prepping for the NFL. Ed Oliver at Houston had some mysterious injury and essentially just took the rest of the season off.

See, thats what Im talking about. If they didnt have the scholly to the University they played for, they wouldnt have the opportunity they have. So, where is the loyalty?

This is just my opinion from the outside looking in. First, I agree with the loyalty aspect of it, especially when it comes to players checking out early in a season. A meaningless bowl game? I can see that more. But I see a total shift in player attitude when it comes to their relationship with the University they attend and play for. It seems to me that more and more players are feeling used by the schools, some of whom are raking in untold millions off the players' likeness and performances. The position that they should share in that revenue is one I can see in theory but staunchly disagree with.
Still, the players seem to be viewing college football as simply a means to an end and nothing more than a vehicle to get them to the show. Obviously, that's already been the case for years in college basketball. That's become a one year tuning up and maturing process for any player with the ability to play at the next level.

Bowl season is meaningless. It’s a farce. It’s be been watered down and rendered moot by the annual Bama Invitational Tournament, the event where nothing matters but the eye test and the regular season didn’t exist. That crazy event where you don’t need to win your conference or even your division within your conference to qualify (if you have the right name).
I’m to the point that I’d rather the bowls just be on-campus exhibition games where seniors and those declared for the draft can’t play.
As for Auburn’s bowl game? Why. Why are we there? Who cares? We are playing a team that just voted a terminally ill kid it’s captain. Do we even want to win if its going to make him feel worse? But we will lose. The offense will suck again, Gus will blame lack of preparation to get “his†offense in. Mark it.

But damn it, they've had a great week of practice. What could go wrong?
On that note, I have to work tomorrow and most likely won't get to see any of it. Strangely, I'm not that bummed about it.
-
In the "Other shit" category, have any underclassmen besides Stidham declared for the draft? I know I was texting with a couple of reprobates a week or two ago and was told Prince Tega Winebego was declaring but I can't find anything on it. Seems it's been strangely quiet. Not that our defense was stellar by any stretch, but we could get obliterated by early departures. Any word?

49-7 in the 2nd quarter. I think it is safe to say that we may actually win this one and we are virtually assured to have a column on AL.com tomorrow saying that we hate terminally ill children who cheer for Purdue.

Agreed. It seems to me that Gus finally took the handcuffs and went all in. Why in the hell hasnt he already been doing that? Aggressive but aggravating.

Still almost no running game, though it was refreshing to see Kam Martin out there.
The gameplan looked to be half JS-appeasement and half-sales pitch to George Pickens.
Against a middling Big 10 team that game plan sets records. Anyone want to guess where Purdue's passing defense ranks nationally? 125 out of 130 per http://www.cfbstats.com/2018/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category02/sort01.html
Against our usual schedule, we get our shit pushed in...again.

I'm a little pissed and a little happy. Pissed because I want to know where this has been all season. I know Purdue is shitty, but the play calling has been nice. This O would've beat everyone but bama and uga. Probably would've gave them fits. So I'm I'll to a point.
I'm happy as a pig in shit watching this! I see those number things on the score board and don't remember what they are. PointsPor something like that. That was fun to watch.
Disagree here. Against our schedule and going on what I saw this past season we win every ballgame sans bama and ugay. Possibly and highly likely we beat ugay too. I'm not getting crazy with the cheeze wizz here, but we scored 63 points against a power 5 team. Could've scored a lot more if we wanted to.
-
From 5 minutes into the third quarter this one was how can we get everybody on the field and keep this out of the 80's. Purdue was terrible, didn't want to be there or both. They had three that could really play but beyond that they were soft. Our offensive linemen pushed them all over the field...our linemen!
I kept asking myself how could THIS TEAM beat OSU? We were stronger, faster and far more aggressive.
******
What stuck out to me was the stat that popped up about three minutes before the half ended. WE WERE 1 for 2 on THIRD DOWN!
This indicates we did almost all of that damage on 1st and 2nd down in this one whereas during the season our offense was generally mired in third down decisions brought on by shitty play calling...predictable one yard dive plays, silly assed long developing end arounds and lateral wide receiver screens.
But the play that pisses me off more than any other is the Schwartz reverse.
We have the fastest fucking human in ALL of FOOTBALL and Dumbshit can't get him the ball in the air. This is an unforgivable waste of talent.
-
we are virtually assured to have a column on AL.com tomorrow saying that we hate terminally ill children who cheer for Purdue.
Was thinking this every time they spent a few minutes on the kid. We're the assholes that trashed a dying kid's favorite team right in front of him. We probably kicked his dog, too.
-
I'm a little pissed and a little happy. Pissed because I want to know where this has been all season. I know Purdue is shitty, but the play calling has been nice.
The play calling was fluid and seemed to have a sense of purpose. I don't think you can underestimate the focus/execution of the players, though. What had been a collection of talented kids bumble-fucking around the football field finally looked like a team of players who each understood their assignment and performed it with gusto.

We scored 63 points because we were bigger, stronger and MUCH faster than everyone one in white less and except Rondale Moore. Our OL (!!!) was getting a strong push across the board and our DL was camped in their backfield the entire game. Our WRs were running wild behind the coverage. I think the only SEC team that Purdue could match athletes with would be Arky.

FIFY. Purdue was out match athletically. The play calling was like the first day of work and layoff day, in that, you see what you're not going to get and you see what you didn't get. Gus is holding out for some reason.
Meanwhile at SPUAT, Bama should have a field day in Oklahoma's secondary as Oklahoma ranks 130 in passing defense. It could get ugly quick. Bama may break Auburn's record for first half scoring in a bowl game. IMO.

Florida's destruction of Michigan should take some of the shine off Auburn's destruction of Purdue.
Big10 STINKS.

To be fair, if JS actually hits one or two of the long passes he overthrows each game, we only lose two.
He hit them in this game. It made a huge difference!

Now all of the bammers are saying..."See? Tua shoulda won that thar Heisman!!" Eventhough Murray put up 417 total yds and 3 Tds on the 10th ranked bama defense. While Tua put up 327 total yds and 4 Tds on a 108th ranked OU defense (Purdue's defense was ranked 103rd).

I believe OU's pass defense is 130th out of 130.

I was fine with either winning the Heisman. I think that Tua is just as deserving and picking between the two is splitting hairs. Had what happened in the 1st quarter happened the rest of the game? Maybe my mind would be changed. Before the Orange Bowl, I thought Murray did what he did against lesser competition. And he did. But, the Orange Bowl proves that he could do what he has done all season against quality competition. For the most part, Alabama couldn't do shit to stop him for 3 quarters. And he's pretty much the only weapon they have.

Same here...but it sure is enjoyable watching "The Greatest Team In The History Of Organized Sports" getting their heads caved in. Also hearing Saban state that Clemson was using copycat plays, basically Clemson was using bama's plays and beating them to death with them...and seeing "The True Heisman" sitting on the bench, as the backup tries to engineer a 30 point comeback.

Wrong.
I will enjoy it in any way I choose and I choose all ways. The hate and loathing goes far beyond only the damage we are able to inflict. I celebrate all failures regardless of the opponent, sport or circumstance.
It was extremely enjoyable to me to watch Satan, Tonka Tinkertoy and some guy named Xavier sit at the podium pouting and claim that Clemson didn't do anything, they just beat themselves.
This kind of arrogance is the reason this team is hated.
Satan (between lengthy jerking off about all the things this team did this season): We actually stopped the run pretty well and created enough third-down situations. We just couldn’t get off the field on third down, couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities that we had on offense.
Tonka: I don’t think it was anything that they were doing that stopped us.
Satan (when asked about Trevor Lawrence): And again, I said it earlier, we had opportunities to get off the field on third down and we couldn’t get off the field. I mean, they were like 8 of 11 at one point in time, 10 of 15 for the game, and we gave up big plays, not just first downs, but we gave up big plays. That and the combination of us not finishing drives, I mean, when you look at the stats of the game and they basically had the ball for the last 10 minutes of the game, but if you look at the stats of the game, their yards and all that are fairly equal. (This is the most loser statement I've ever heard him make)
Tonka: We just weren’t executing what the plays were. We just didn’t punch it in. That’s basically all it was.
X: No, we just didn’t execute. We had a lot of busts, a lot of things that we could have did better, and that’s basically it.
X (when asked to compare Lawrence to other QBs): He could throw the ball well. There was nothing really different. A lot of it was what we were doing. A lot of stuff that we didn’t execute, so I feel like that was just mainly on our part and what we were doing.
Tonka: Good is not good enough. We didn’t finish the way we wanted to finish. We didn’t do the things we needed to do to execute and be successful in this game, and that’s all it is.
BTW? Trevor Lawrence looks like Jar Jar Binks.

I heard a comment this morning that hit the nail on the head. Kirby Smart (Fuck Georgia) should take a page out of Dabo's book. When you have Bama down, keep your foot on the gas. They said last night that he kept telling his team to play like it was 0-0. They changed nothing. They kept running their offense regardless of the score or situation. Same with their defense. No backing off and they continued to attack until the end.
-
Thorough ass whipping.

At one point late in the 3rd up 24 points, knowing Bama was in passing mode, Clemson had 11 guys on the LOS. No prevent. No chunk yards to get momentum.

Ain't curling up. I was taught when you get knocked down, pick yourself up, go get better, and shut up until you do. K is right that is one reason people hate Bama under Saban is they never lose - they just beat themselves. Arrogant assholeness does no one any good at all.
I don't care what they do, ultimately. I want our team to get better and do something.

See, this is what chafes my bum so many times with teams. If you've played someone straight up all game and beat that ass, why change it up? Granted, it took Clemson a quarter and a half to figure it out, but once they did, they just stuck with what worked.
With only 5 minutes gone in the first quarter, I thought that game was going to be a 52-48 outcome.

post of the day and stealing
-
So what did we see yesterday?
1) We saw a team that wasn't scared of Bama, didn't cower at the myth and punched them right in the face. I think that was 90% of it. They didn't flinch.
2) We saw a team that has mimicked the Bama way (and if you listen to the whispers coming from the Carolinas, it includes the same kind of gifting that goes on in Tuscaloosa). They recruit well, the program is locked down and solid, the players (except for that Bryant kid) seem to know what to expect and what's expected of them from the jump. Very clannish, very Bamaish.
3) I hate Dabo because he wants to be Bama so bad he can taste it and he never lets go of the adulation, but he does a good job of setting the culture and expectations, hiring coaches who fit his model and letting them do it. The guy looks like the penis of a turtle, but as much as I loathe to admit it he's a better head coach right now than anybody. He might not could match Gus when it comes to X's and O's but in terms of doing the job a head coach is expected to do? He's got it.

What I saw was $aban lose yet again to a Coach who when having equally gifted players outcoached the Greatest One Evah!

So what did we see yesterday?

I know you hate Dabo cause he's a bammer. But I gotta say to me It's hard not to like the guy. He's the anti $aban, he seems to enjoy what he does, seems genuine about liking his players and is a better on field coach. He's out there enjoying what they did not with a stoneface scowl of a cock sucker who would sell the souls of his players to get more championships. He doesn't speak coach speak like our own cock sucker and quite frankly has built that program into a solid powerhouse at a school nowhere near the pedigree of bammer.
I would take him as our head coach in a red hot minute, turtle looking penis head and all.

Sad thing is, we're probably going to be watching Clemson/Bama Part XXVIIX this time next year. Tua Turnovers and all those receivers are back. You know they'll reload everywhere else. Jeff Spicoli, Etienne, Ross etc. are all back for The Fighting Dabos and there's no one in the ACC that can even get a ticket to their world. You'll have the usual suspects that pretend as challengers like tOSU, Oklahoma and FUGA. Of course, Notre Dame will go 11-1 and get propped up as being "back".
But who can realistically challenge these two next year?

Preach it, brother.

Makes you wonder how the Ross kid (from Phenix City) went from an AU lean, to a bammer lean, and then on to CU!
I know a feller who knows a feller. I will try to get the full story at some point.

I hate Dabo not because he's a Bammer necessarily, but because after taking a 21-7 lead at Clemson in 2011 Schizo Gus first reared his ugly head and the offense went into a shell. The Chizfense continued to suck and the offense just shriveled. Lost 38-24.
That clown stood in the middle of the field and (I'm paraphrasing) said "This one's for Bama!!"
Never forgive that. Not now, not ever.

Isn't that two words that you left a space out on?

One thing I do wonder, however.
Where was all of Talulah's Hawaiian garb after the game? I didn't see any of the flowerdy necklaces, headbands or any of that. He pouted as bad as Cam ever has. Well, almost.

Something's missing there. I remember something being said like that. Vividly. Because I had no feeling about Dumbo either way before that game. And we all complained after the game that he was more about Bama than he was Clemson after it was over.
There's more to that somewhere.

I am not making excuses for Bama here. There are none. But I got to thinking about something and pulled up the chrome on the googles. Down the home stretch and into the championship games/playoffs, Bama played.
LSU
Miss. State
Citadel
Auburn
Fuck Georgia
Oklahoma
Clemson
The Fighting Dabos obviously ended last night with Bama, but the games leading up to that were:
Louisville
Boston College
Duke
South Carolina
Pitt
Notre Dame
Which schedule would you prefer?

CLEMSON, South Carolina -- Saturday's victory was especially sweet for Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who grew up in Pelham and played football at Alabama.
Clemson had lost to Auburn in 14 consecutive games before Saturday.
"It's only fitting that an Alabama grad would be in charge of a the team that ended the winning streak," Swinney said.

Screw him...forever!

I will still always cheer for anyone over bama, and an earthquake when it's bama vs FUGA.

I thought Uncle Miltie was an Auburn guy?
