Cam Newton is a officially a little bitch. Yeah I know, most of us are done with the NFL right now. I'm right there with ya'. The only 30 seconds I've watched were when I came across a game while flipping channels. But if you pay attention to sports coverage in general, it's almost impossible to not know at least a little about what's going on.
Mike & Mike just showed a clip from his time with the press yesterday. In the past 3 weeks, he's made fun of a woman for well, being a woman and asking a question about a wide receiver. Then he's all Colon Craperdump is a great guy and I'm gonna' black panther err'body during the anthem. On the field, he has flat out sucked lately. He skips last weeks presser. Then yesterday, he comes in and stands at the podium with a mad on, bristling at every question. Then he abruptly just walks out on everyone in the middle of it.
So, I guess it's not just the pressure and emotions that come with losing a Super Bowl that causes you to be a little bitch at a press conference. This guy has done nothing but pout on the field when things go wrong, hiding under a towel. Play the over-the top, "Look at me" role at the most minute bit of success. But he hands kids the football after he scores. He'll eventually apologize like he always does, then he'll embarrass himself and the organization again with his 4th grade antics soon enough.
Hey Cam, thanks for the MNC. Done with you. When I come back to the NFL, and I will at some point, I'll be pulling for you to go 5-32 every game with 6 picks.

Appreciate everything about him while at Auburn and followed his NFL career up until this year. His overall behavior has gotten progressively worse to the point that I don't care about him anymore.

The guy hates to lose more than anybody I've ever seen. He can't stand it. And he does not handle it well. He loves to win more than anybody I've ever seen. He basks in it. He does not handle it well.
The question he was asked (paraphrased).... "do you think you can sustain success in this offense..." was a loaded grenade. It was insulting. No answer would be right. It pissed him off. Cam is not politically correct. He does not hide his pissededness. The question pissed him off and he bailed.
It's not a good look.

Whatever he does, I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching anybody in an Auburn football uniform more than I enjoyed watching him. I've never seen anybody who enjoyed playing in an Auburn uniform more than he did. Whatever he is now, for the time he was in Auburn he loved us just as much as we loved him.
Just like Dye did for me in the 80s, Cam Newton gave me hope. I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines when he broke LSU in half. There was a point in that game where he took a pretty hard hit down close to their endzone. He laid there on the ground and my heart nearly stopped because it looked to me like he was injured and breathing funny. I was afraid for a moment that he might be out. And while he still laid there, he turned his head and I saw a huge smile. Cam was laying there laughing. I've never seen anything like it, before or since.
I don't much care what he does as a pro. I want him to be successful, though. I want him to clown the NFL like he clowned the SEC.

Post-truck wreck? Cam set records, was the NFL MVP, had more fun playing pro football than any man has a right to. He was "live for the moment, don't waste a second" Cam. Post-wreck he was as good as anybody in the league.
After Denver punked him in a Super Bowl I'm sure he felt certain they would win, he got super pissed off and (somewhat rightfully) fed up with the media that was in the span of five minutes adoring him and cheering his collapse. His team was a shell of itself last year, he was injured -- something he's never really had to deal with -- and other than going to Blinn and working his ass off to get back to AU he's never really faced adversity on the football field. Now he is and it's not where he wants or expects to be.
It's a little like somebody proving to Superman that he's mortal. He's not going to like it.

I don't care if he pouts. I think the "sexist" comment about it being funny to hear a female talk about routes is way over blown in our ultra-sensitive PC culture and would have AT WORST received an eyeroll or two and everyone would have immediately moved on and not given a shit five years ago.

Here's the thing. I want all former AU athletes to succeed in whatever sport they're in. I pull for them. I follow them. But honestly, I don't have this blind faith that some of you have just because they're "One of our own." Yes, Cam gave us all a one year thrill ride that culminated in one of the most satisfying wins in AU history (28-27 at BDS) and a long awaited MNC one January night in Arizona. I think we'll all be forever grateful for that. And guess what? If he comes back to a game at Auburn and they recognize him, I'll be right there cheering with the rest of you for what he did for good ole State U.
But the difference for me is, I don't give the man a free pass for the rest of his professional career, where he's gone from a 1-year/$180K deal to being one of the richest men in America, just because he played at Auburn. And that's exactly what you guys are doing. Cam is one of the highest profile athletes in the world. He's getting his shit pushed in, and rightfully so, by every sports media outlet and caller after caller to sports talk shows. And the truth of the matter is if he wasn't an Auburn man, we'd have a page or two dedicated to ripping this rich, spoiled, pouty ass, self-aggrandizing QB for Carolina, and he'd rarely be mentioned again.
If any other athlete acted this way, this many times, you'd write him off in a heartbeat. But as Chad alluded to, it'd take him being a pedophile for some to speak ill of Cammy Cam.

I agree with K above with regard to the magic carpet ride he took us on in 2010. As I said above, we all owe him a debt of gratitude for that.
I guess my thing is this. While yes, I really want all AU athletes to kick ass at the next level, I start focusing more on the team I pull for than individuals. Or better yet, the individuals on the teams I pull for. I've always followed the NFL, NBA and MLB. This year, I'm doing my part in staying away from the NFL for reasons I feel very strongly about. But, I'll come back. Maybe some of you won't. That's fine. I will. I like foosballz too much. And I've never been shy about pulling for the Dirty Birds. Loveable losers? Chokers? Yep. But they're my chokers.
Here's where it's different. I love me some Julio. Hated him at Bama because....well....it's Bama. But he's a Falcon now and he's one of the most incredible athletes in the league. Watched the guy in person catch an insane amount of passes twice in the Georgia Dome. Good guy off the field. Would rather be bass fishing than anywhere else. Let's put it this way. My hatred for him as a Bama player didn't carry over to his pro career anymore than my blind faith in all things Cam did as a pro. Yeah, I probably would overlook more things from ex-AU players. But I tend to look at all players as pros and base my man-love/hate more on what they do at this level.

I told everyone in my family and of course, they were all doubters saying, "we'll just have to see." I remember posting on that family forum an SI article about his recruitment. There were members of the Auburn family watching Cam as he played at Binn College. No, I wasn't alone. I loved watching him play at AU but have lost interest in his career in the NFL.
