Title: Lost A Couple Today
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 08, 2017, 07:22:14 PM
Country music lost two artists today when Don Williams and Troy Gentry died.  I was never a huge fan of Montgomery-Gentry but they put out a lot of music for a while there and kind of faded out.  Don Williams is one of the country legends.  Even had one of his songs sung at our wedding.  Mr. Smooth to some and Gentle Giant to others.  RIP

Underrated as hell. Songwriting was top notch.

I know Gentry was good but they are honestly like Brooks and Dunn where they are recognized by one guy and you sometimes forget the other one was there.

I saw Ronnie Dunn at Red Bar in Grayton Beach a few years ago.  He was eating with a group next to us.  He's tall but goes about 150 pounds.  135 of that is vocal chords.  Dude has a set of pipes on him.  Brooks was a hack.  He was just there to...well, I'm not sure what he was there for.  Used to piss me off because I play the guitar.  Not well, but I play. But because I do, I always watch the guitar players on stage.  That S.O.B. would strut and gyrate with the guitar like he was ripping it up.  And I'd look at him and go, "Fuck you!  You're not even playing chords."  I don't even know if he actually knew how to play.  But he gave it his all to make you think he was playing.  He wasn't.

Oh c'mon admit it Snags, you'd give your left nut to be able to fake chords and gyrate like Brooks.

I always loved those Don Williams tunes. Simple songs yet so popular one could flip over a few stations to hear that very same song.

R.I.P. Don and Troy.

You mean like James M. Cox?
Had to google him but it was a true learning experience.

What's iconic is the sheer size of Liev Scrivener's head and ultra slender trunk and legs.
Fucking alienlike...as aliens go.
