Big win for Auburn: Elite Alabama RB Asa Martin commits to Tigers over Crimson Tide
Thursday was a great day on the recruiting trail for the Tigers as top in-state running back Asa Martin committed to Auburn over Alabama, Clemson, and Florida. Martin made the announcement during a live ceremony at his Alabama high school, Austin High.
“I’m blessed to be in this position… but I decided to go with my heart and attend the University of Auburn,†Martin announced on stage in front of a packed auditorium at his high school.
Following his commitment, Auburn now has 13 pledges lined up in its 2018 recruiting class. Martin joins Shaun Shivers as the only running backs committed to Auburn’s latest recruiting class.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Martin ranks as a four-star prospect, the No. 10 overall running back in the nation and the No. 7 recruit from the state of Alabama for the 2018 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Martin played for prestigious IMG Academy as a junior before returning home for his senior season.
“There is nothing like home, playing football and making memories with the people you love the most, so I am transferring back to Austin High School,†Martin announced last November on Twitter.

247 now has us at 23 team ranking and moving up. 3 months ago we weren't even in the top 50.

The great thing about that is him graduating in December and enrolling for the Spring. BTW, did they put in that proposed early signing period this year?

WTF if true.
I mean, I understand nothing counts til the ink's dry, but any top-half SEC school not finishing in the top 20 would be a huge catastrophe.

Haven't looked, so honest querstion. If Joey Gatewood in this cruitn class or the next?

At this point, it's more about the number of commits we have. We're at 13 with 5 of those being 4-star kids. Most everybody ahead of us in the rankings, with a handful of exceptions, just simply has more commits than we do and that raises the overall rating on 247.

Well in the past 3 months I believe we have gotten 5-6 players (verbally committing), so like Snags said it is simply a numbers thing.
Case in point Alabama is currently below us at #28, and you and I both know they will win their 78 teenth National Championship recruitin class by the time signing day rolls around.
