Carl and the dogs and the house all made it through Ike just fine. We lost one tree - it fell across our driveway and into the street, but honestly, I hated that tree anyway - the roots were tearing up the driveway but it was so large that it was going to cost a ton to get it professionally removed. So Ike saved us some $$$$.
We still have no power at the house, so Carl is leaving today to drive as far as New Orleans. He'll stay with his mom tonight and come the rest of the way to Montgomery tomorrow. So I guess that means no happy hour for Jen - he is not going to want to drive another hour and a half after being inthe car all day, and since the kids and I haven't seen him in five days, it would be rude to come by myself.
Sorry - but I will see most of you gomers on Saturday.

More news - the huge main transmission line that services north Houston/The Woodlands is gone, so it may be two or more weeks before power is restored. That's where my office is, so no work for Jen for a while. If we don't get power at home soon, I have no idea when we will be going back to Houston...
We may try to relocate to New Orleans until we get power at home - then I can work from the house. Carl's office is open as of tomorrow, but I don't know if they will be up to full operations or not.
What a freaking mess.

I am in Houston and back at work. Somehow our office has power even when much of north Houston does not. Not sure if that is good or not - i could use another day to recover from the weekend.
The yard is trashed, the house reeks of stale air from being closed up for a week, I have two tons of laundry to do, and we have no food in the house, but I have never been so grateful to be home before. A week and three days living with my mother... dear Lord, it is a wonder I was not a raging alcoholic BEFORE the tailgate party. The kids were so excited to be back in their very own beds, and so was I.
Life is good.

Take care!
