Briles to Auburn?

I know it was reported that Kiffin hired Briles as the OC for FAU but I'm telling you, Kendall Briles to Auburn. A certain member here at the X told you goons this would gonna happen. It will happen before the week is done.

I will give you a dollar if true.
Plus? He took a pay cut of nearly half. Wonder why.
-
My guess is "might want to be looking for a job before we hire your replacement."
-
Er'body knows Malzahn and Briles Sr has been pals of late and er'body knows Stidham came to AU. The reports say that Lashlee is a big contributor to Stidham signing with AU. I wonder....
-
Well, the biggest question, regardless of who he hires, is will Malzahn turn the reigns over to him and let him do his thing?
In addition, Lashlee was a Gus protégé. The offense that CGM designed is what was going to be run (Sans the whirly-bird). If he hires Briles or Kelly or whoever, do we see a different offense or does he demand they learn his scheme and run it his way?

My take is that Malzahn realizes what he has to do to keep his job next year. I think they both realized what needed to happen also. Rhett needed to be released to be his own and Gus needed to quit being Rhetts football daddy.

No to 5 of those instantly.
Surprised Helfrich wasn't on there.

Will he take the twirlybird with him?
Please?

Prepare to be underwhelmed.

WOTS: It's already a done deal. It's someone that Malzahn has very close ties with. He'll be announced very soon.

Ok for those of us that don't pay for that VIP access, someone please post the list.

I'm betting on Chris Todd or Barrett Trotter coming back.

Going out on that limb again?

I'm betting on Chris Todd or Barrett Trotter coming back.
I'm betting on whomever Jacobs allows him to hire.
-
Probably Chip Lindsey or some other underwhelming name.
-
On the bright side...Danny Ford's illegitimate, idiot son just beat the best team money can buy so there's always hope.
-
Probably Chip Lindsey or some other underwhelming name.
Lindsey wouldn't be a bad hire, just not a big splash.
-
Mildly embarrassing for our OC to make a sub-lateral move, but fuck it: the Gushlee umbilical cord has finally been cut.
We'll get to see what kind of HC Gus really is, hopefully. If it's another member of the Malzahn coaching tree sapling, I'll be disappointed. This offense needs a new voice and some new ideas...and a QB coach would be nice, too.

My wish list:
Not in any order. Basically for me there is Briles and then everyone else.
1) Kendall Briles - Former Baylor OC and current FAU OC.
2) Chip Lindsey - Arizona State OC
3) Mike Yurcich - Oklahoma State OC
4) Randy Sanders - FSU Co/OC
What I hope doesn't happen, Herb Hand being promoted to OC.
-
I'd avoid NFL guys due to a culture misfit. I'd run at these guys (in order of preference):
Lincoln Riley - Oklahoma OC
Jeff Scott - Clemson OC
Todd Fitch - La Tech OC
Mike Yurcich - Ok St OC
Lonnie Galloway - Louisville "OC"
Whoever is calling plays in Tulsa
-
Jeff Scott and Jake Spavital would two that I'd be elated with Gus hiring. Not sold on Briles, yet.

Lincoln Riley would be the Big Papi home run hire IMO. Not that he's even a candidate, but seeing his name under real consideration would give me pause for chub. Not just because of what he did at OU this year, but his time at ECU was pretty dang skippy. And...cough...cough....he corches QB's.
It would take Muschamp $$$ though. He's pulling down $900K.

Pay him.
Pay that man his money.

Of these that are listed, who would be more likely to stay more than a year or two? Sure, we all want to see the Auburn offense to be top notch, but who out there could do that and be likely to stay more than 2 years?
-

I'm kind of to the point where that's just the nature of the business. They're all hired guns anyway and putting down roots for very long is becoming the exception and not the norm.
-
No worries y'all Lashlee will be back in 2 years when Jacobs offers him 7.5 million to be our next head coach.
-

Can't get Riley. Spivital is only 31. Briles knows Baylor's passing game-installed it. Wes has some good candidates but ultimately I want a guy that knows the culture, can absorb the playbook and even moreso, teach QBs.
What worries me is that Hand was a co-coordinator once and that might be entertained.
-

Unlikely. The demand for Rhett is too high. We won't be able to match what's coming his way.

Pay him.

three stacks of high society.

My guess is it will be Chip Lindsey

Agreed but I wouldn't expect a long tenure. I'm just thinking who from these mentioned would be more likely to stay 3-4 years that can also run the offense along with coaching up the QBs. The person that fits these desires should be on top of the list. I see 3 maybe?
Yurcich?
Fitch
Briles
Edit: Add Lindsey since he loves him some Malzahn.

Well yeah, du....I mean, what are talking about?
Seriously though, Chips offensive stats at ASU look pretty decent but the more I think about this one, the less I like. This would only be a couple notches above Herb Hand. I don't know, I guess I would be expecting more from this considering how the offense has look as of late and the fact Gus has to be feeling the pressure on offensive performance.

As someone on teh chizad twatterZ said, most importantly Chip Lindsey is a yes man.

He was a HS coach for a while in the aughts including OC under Rush Probst at Hoover, then the Troy QB coach in 2010, then Spain Park head coach in 2011-12, then Auburn "offensive analyst" in 2013, then OC at Southern Miss in 2014 & 2015, then OC at Arizona State in 2016.
Yeah...this seems like Rhett 2.

We'll get to see what kind of HC Gus really is, hopefully.
How many years must we go into the off-season wondering if we'll see what the HC is really all about?

Rumor mill (ESPN) is saying that Art nor Kendall Briles are in consideration.

boo! we want a loser not a winner.

Because Gus ain't going to let the reigns go that far. Those that think otherwise are dreaming, you might as well say Chip Kelly.

Don't disagree, at all. Just what I know about Gus.

We lost. I'm asking for directions.

Here's what I don't understand:
Auburn is a pretty great place to be a coach, I think. Traditional power in a top conference with the chance to prove yourself against the best in the business every week AND a realistic shot at an NC more often than not lately.
Why is Gus trying to learn how to be something that he is not? Why try to force the CEO square peg into the HC/OC round hole? Be that guy, Gus, it's who you are. Hire someone whose sole job is to groom QBs...and who does it well, hopefully. Then get out there and run your fucking offense.
Why tinker with what got you here to meet the optics of what a DI NCAA HC "should" be? You're at a destination job, so settle in and perfect your madness.
-

Yaw Yaw and Bucky aren't role playing. Why should Gus?

Some million dollar questions you are asking. And valid ones.

Of course not, his players knew how to score.

Floyd, you think Calvin Coolidge said everything.
-
Two dot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!! I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others. I like male genatalia in and around my mouth. articles, one by Sinor and the other by Skrubdinski, on Art Briles. Sinor says Briles is out while Dinski says it's a possibility and seems to indicate it SHOULD happen in his opinion. Interesting skreetz blurb by KS. He says the decision to turn the play calling over to Lashlee at the LSU game, came at the urging of a powerful booster. The reason? If it worked, Malzahn looks great for making the change. If it bombed, Lashlee is the scapegoat and AU can justify not paying a $9 million buyout to CGM. Move on to a different OC.

Floyd, you think Calvin Coolidge said everything.
He once had a beautiful head of hair.

i'm sorry but that is bad taste.

Well, the more I read, the more I have to agree with GF and GH, prolly gonna be Lindsey. Other names, Herb Hand, D Craig and Eddie Gran.
A new name floating around is Mark Helfrich, recent Oregon OC.
-
Lindsey wouldn't be a bad hire, just not a big splash.
No, he wouldn't be a bad hire. He would complete almost any criteria list one has when looking for an OC but I fear he lacks experience. If our head coach is learning on the job, we definitely don't need his OC doing the same.
I would open up the check book and go after Jeff Scott, Jake Spatival, Lincoln Riley or Sterlin Gilbert.
-
Randy Sanders, though not a read option guy is a terrific QB coach or so says his results at FSU, notorious for not paying its assistant's well.

Lindsey has experience. For me its just the fact that he may still be too subjective to what Gus wants to run on offense. On the other hand, wes makes a good point too and Lindsey sounds like he is a great QB coach. I dunno anymore. I just want the damn offense to show greatness.

A quillion. Pffffft. Chump change. We'll have to get in the badrillions if we want him back.

Which is why UConn took him, it helps that their AD, David Benedict, worked at Auburn previously.

Of those three give me Spavital.
Not sure. Apparently he was with the Aggies before Cal where he and the Aggies "mutually decided to part ways". Not sure what to take from that. Also he is interviewing for the Cal HC job which I don't think he will get because Chip Kelly is also in the running.

http://www.wdam.com/story/26265668/chip-lindsey-brings-distinctive-style-to-southern-miss-offense
This is a three year old article out of Hattiesburg with this loose cannon Chip Lindsey thoroughly discussing his offensive philosophy while spouting off about hanging 50 on everyone Southern Miss will face.
I tell you, Gus is going to have to gag this guy. He just puts too much fodder out there to be scrutinized.

I no.
Loosers, the lot of you.

So Oregon fills its OC position with two guys in a CO/OC dealio. Calling Mark Helfrich!

Helfrich ala Muschamp, plug and play.
But giving up the reigns while retaining only veto power might not suit our genius.
-
And I want Helfrich because he is experienced plus we can incorporate parts of Oregon's offense into our own making it either utterly amazing or horrifically shitastic.
-
Helfrich ala Muschamp, plug and play.
But giving up the reigns while retaining only veto power might not suit our genius.
While it's true that veto power is strong, a plug n play situation may bring about the oatmeal seeds in all of us. If you know what I mean. Wink wink. Especially during a sulky time where things go...salmon? Who knows. Maybe?
-
Pay the man.
Gus makes recruiting visits, incredibly, inspiring speeches to boosters and Ford truck commercials.
Auburn wins, Auburn wins!

It would seem more plausible if the power included a maritime veto, which inevitably could lead to a straight face off of adversarial spatulas. But I think that's stating the obvious.

Claw hammer's are still the weapon of choice in most instances, although shovels and cast iron skillets are gaining in popularity.

Well duh. Talk about implied knowledge. We all know maritime vetos rank the best. And are different as far as adversarial spatulas go anyway. At least the same ballpark. But we all know the game totally changes when hot dogs are brought into the equation.
