If people weren't fucking morons, we wouldn't be having this problem.
Hey, here's an idea - ONLY FILL UP IF YOU'RE ON EMPTY.
By draining the gas stations of their supply, they're going to have to buy more. This wasn't expected, so the prices will be inflated for a longer period of time in order to rebalance supply and demand. If people would have just stuck to their normal routine, we would have seen prices go up some for a couple of days. I'm so sorry that the gasoline gods weren't in your favor and you hit E during a hurricane epidemic, but those who are on E should fill up.
Everyone else is just pissing in my cornflakes.
-
I'm filling up on E85 Ethanol on the way home from work; should be around $3.19 but I'm sure they've raised the price on "corn squeezins'" too by now.
-
4.19 and no waiting at the Exxon off the Interstate in Pell City (as of 30 min ago).. Still 3.69 at teh Walmark if you want to wait in a 15+ car deep line at each pump.
Ditto what townhall said. This swindling shit is driven by consumer fear and nothing else.
-
4.20 on Hwy 280 here in Inverness. I filled up because I don't want to be one of the hippies walking and riding a fucking bike for the next week if something goes wrong.

AND ANOTHER THING
This is all driven by the media's ri-fucking-diculous coverage of Ike. Ike is a big storm. It's going to cause some damage. But it's not Katrina. It's not Andrew. It's not Camille. It's not Betsy. This is a typical Cat 2 (maybe MAYBE 3 by landfall) storm that is going to fuck up the city on the coastline and knock out power for a little while. The oil problems will be fixed in a week or two.
However, we're treated to "IKE BRINGS CERTAIN DEATH" and MSNBC's "IT'S TIME FOR PRAYERS."
Now, everyone thinks the USA is out of oil. Kentucky has declared a state of emergency.
Maybe now's a good time to look at drilling off the coast of California and in Alaska. You know, those are places that don't get fucked by hurricanes every summer.
-
Amen to that, I always top off the tank on thursdays or fridays anyway and i support the local mom and pop stores than the big chains and they were staying at 3.55 with no real rush of people. I told them during lunch, I visually watched the gas go from 3.58. to 4.95. I just about threw up.
*just read where AL is under state of emergency.

$ 4.19 a gallon in Gardendale at the Chevron. The Raceway had gas at $3.65 until they ran out!

Wow, you'd think you were from East Texas about to lose their shit, as opposed to someone sitting in their cushy home drinking a cool beverage watching football Saturday.... I mean since you're downplaying what they should be feeling and going through right now. Also, while it's NOT Katrina and all the Hurricanes you mentioned, it IS hitting more refineries and shutting them down where Katrina didn't hit the Texas coast and said refineries. I hear ya though.... get pissed about it. Good approach.
Just pickin' at ya.... don't get mad... :poke:
I agree with much of what you're saying, but I'm not sure Texan's with families would share your cavalier and calloused approach... Besides, most of the headlines and media treatment are in an effort to NOT downplay. In fact, it's in a total effort to scare the shit out of people enough so they get the fuck out first, instead of finding out that maybe it was worse than they thought when it's too late. It's in an effort to educate and prompt people in future storms that Hurricanes are nothing to fuck with. It's pretty much common sense....
Just sayin....

Yeah, Riley declared a State of Emergency this morning so that the state's price gouging laws could be put into affect. Many stations had hit the $5 mark by last night. According to a local gas station owner in the Decatur Daily, he said the oil company limited how much he could purchase and charged him $4.53 a gallon yesterday. If that is true, then apparently the problem is with the supply and not the demand. Hmmmm.....

We're up to $9.76

Wow...out of all the posters on this board, I definitely didn't expect Chopper to take the more compassionate side of this.
Yada, yada about the Texans. I grew up in Louisiana. It used to flood and knock out power when there was a bad thunderstorm. The ones that get killed during a hurricane will be the ones who have serious bad luck or were dumb enough to stay on the coast.
And yes, I do have the right to get pissed. Sucking the gas stations dry (this has everything to do with every dumb fuck sitting in line at gas stations across the southeast) does nothing but make the gas prices go up even higher than they would have. Instead of having a bit of common sense and just dealing with a maybe $1 increase for a couple of weeks, those people have now made 5-6 dollars per gallon for a month a real possibilitiy.
But you're right. I should just sympathize with the Texans getting the brunt of the storm and not worry about what migh happen in my neck of the woods.

Now, that's some high quality gouging. Let us know when they open title loan windows at the Exxon cashier counter.

I was one of those "dumb rednecks" sitting in line on Friday. It was my wifes fault though. She works in an ER, but doesn't live by the saying, "make sure you have enough gas to get to the hospital in case of emergency", so her vehicle was past the fucking E, and we had places to go Sat morning. If it wasn't for the fact that I would have to go help her out, I wish she would just run the fuck out of gas on her way home from work.

Glad to see my wife is not the only one that likes to drive the car until it is running on vapors. Heck, one morning when she was leaving for work, she comes back in the house and tells me the car is broke down because it will not start. I get out there look at the fuel gauge after trying to turn it over once and realize she is freakin' out of gas. She apparently had just enough fumes in the tank to make it home the night before.
