Title: Roster Watch
Post by: wesfau2 on January 06, 2016, 10:12:28 AM
*Assuming no early entrants in the NFL draft or transfers.

Departing Seniors:
John Jones - CB
Josh Holsey - DB
Blake Countess - DB

Ric Louis - WR
Melvin Ray - WR

Davonte Lambert - DT
Keymiya Harrell - DL

Cass McKinzy - LB
Kris Frost - LB
Justin Garrett - LB
Kenny Flowers - LB

Xavier Dampeer - OL/C
Davonte Danzey - OL/C

John Wallace - WR/QB
Tucker Tuberville - QB
Duncan McKinney - K
Daniel Pond - LB
Lawyer Tillman - RB

We return (assuming Coleman and Young stay) our entire OL and RB/FB/HB backfield.  We return our QBs, though much debate is to be had if that's a good or bad thing (I think it's a good thing.)  Our WR corps is undersized, with only Tony Stevens (6'4") and RS Darius Slayton (6'2") providing any size.

Our defensive back 7 gets gutted with this class, but that may be addition by subtraction from an attitude standpoint.  Maybe it has just been coaching, but the LBs have been a soft spot in our defense for years now.  Losing Jones and Countess is a blow, as both were pretty solid.  Carlton Davis, however, looks to have at least one side of the field locked down.

Coming off of redshirts and joining the playing rotations are:

Jordan Colbert (DB 6'1" 226)
Javarius Davis (DB 5'10" 180)
Jamel Dean (DB 6'2" 205...OSU transfer)

Tyler Carr (OL 6'5" 313)
Marquell Harrell (OL 6'3" 295)
Mike Horton (OL 6'4" 312)
Darius James (OL 6'5" 304....Texas transfer)
Kaleb Kim (OL 6'4" 285)
Bailey Sharp (OL 6'5" 293)

Prince Tega Wanogho (DL 6'8" 250)
Jauntavius Johnson (DL 6'2" 322)

Richard McBryde (LB 6'1" 227)

Darius Slayton (WR 6'2" 182)

Tyler Queen (QB 6'1" 241)
Ian Shannon (P 6'3" 209)

Our early enrollees this year:

Kyle Davis (WR 6'2" 211)

Malik Miller (RB 5'11" 229)

Landon Rice (TE 6'5" 250)

John Franklin III (QB 6'2" 180)

Paul James (DE 6'4" 255)
Marlon Davidson (DL 6'3" 240)
Antwaun Jackson (DL 6'2" 305)

John Broussard (DB 6' 172)

Tre Threat (LB 6'1" 225)

Have nothing to indicate they will go but my guess would be we lose Young, Coleman and Lawson to early departure.  The redshirt O-linemen would make me feel better about that if Young and Coleman do bolt.

I think Jovon Robinson bolts as well.

Snaganalysis:

If Jovon comes out, I would guess it would be more for personal or grade reasons than thinking he has a shot at getting drafted.  (Again, just a guess)

He's a big back that I think showed much better vision than Barber.  He seemed to see the holes and make the cuts as opposed to Barber's straight ahead style.  It looked like they found his niche with the stretch play in the last few games.  And I imagine if he'd been the man from the start, he'd have probably gone well past Barber's 1,000 yard rushing total.

But, he wasn't and he didn't.  He looks to be a very solid back but he showed zero break away speed.  The NFL is really big on their backs being able to double as receivers for swing passes and quick hitters.  I don't recall AU doing much of that with Robinson.  He may have more catches than I remember but nothing stands out to me with him in the passing game.

I really can't see Robinson being on any team's radar if he comes out.

What's the word on Roc Thomas? What was his deal? How does he factor in going forward? Is he a transfer risk?
