Kudos to the Auburn tech team for the best use of a 404 page in the history of college sports websites.

For the non-technical folks out there, a 404 page simply refers to a page that is shown should a user land on a page that doesn’t exist. For instance, if you type in http://www.auburntigers.com/asdfasdf/ into your web browser, you’ll get the following message:

auburn404

The message “We’re sorry but the page you’re looking for doesn’t appear to exist. Don’t worry, we’ll put one second back on the clock and you can continue with the links below. War Eagle!” is brilliant.

Of course the Auburn folks are referring to the legendary Kick Six play from the 2013 Iron Bowl.

It’s quite common down in Auburn to leverage the historic play that ended the 2013 rivalry matchup at every opportunity. In a recent scoreboard rendering, the Auburn Instagram account used the photo from the Kick Six play as well:
