When I was growing up in Miami, I always heard rumors of people catching 200-300 pound groupers off the Florida Keys. I must have gone deep sea fishing over 100 times, but the largest I ever caught was around 45 pounds. I couldn't imagine hooking into anything like this. Unless you had a winch, you'd be fighting for days, and you'd probably need to tag team that monster.

I've been in on a couple of tag teams. Just make sure you know who's hole your sticking it in.

A few years ago there was some fool who went spear fishing off Florida without taking a knife to cut the line if needed. Then he shot a goliath grouper. Here's the article dealing with the aftermath.

Stupidity should be painful, but that's almost a Darwin Award. A spear isn't going to do much to a grouper like that.

"Help me, Mork, a grouper's got me by the leg!"
