Big Chill almost made into 1984 as well. But was finished earlier than anticipated. (read that in some 30th anniv article last year or year before)
But yes, good times in the mid late 80s in general. I was a young un but have great memories from all of the stuff you mentioned (except for that AIDS thingee).

Yes it was my best year even though I only had an so so job. I was a healthy naive newlywed, unencumbered by stress and blind to any of life's limitations. Had my parents and close family. Was still active in competitive sports and played golf three or four times a week. We could just take off for the beach at the drop of a hat. And it's all better when you are in luuuuuve or at least think you are.

I do agree 1994 was great too. The early mid 90's in general were especially great for music. To me it was the 2nd great era of modern music (after the late 60's).
I was a Jr in HS at this time and everytime I hear a song from this era, its def nostalgic. Good times. Both years.

I agree 100%. It was the end of my middle school days, and the beginning of high scool. I still love the music from that time. Generation X at its finest.

I got to experience Pearl Jam and Nirvana at full fledged High School age and looking back, it was awesome. I would hate to be a HS Sr now with the choice of music out there now.
Hey kids, when I was in HS in 2014 we had Lady Gaga and Kesha. Oh, yes, good times indeed. They were so awesome. NOT

Don't be mad because you were labeled a "baby boomer".

Grunge rock sucked then and it sucks now.

Diamond Rio, Little Texas, Blackhawk - some of the worst crap my ears have ever heard.

You came of age in the early 80's disco/ mid late 80s hair metal eras didnt you?
I bet you did hate Alternative. Pearl Jam was as solid as it got brother. Now, don't you have some high black socks to put on and a lawn to water?

I saw pj at the bjcc on the yield tour in 1998. Great show (several songs on the live on two legs album from that show) but it was not what i expected. Four large candle stands, chairs where general addmission should have been. Kinda like the Eagles reunion tour. Very subdued.

There was a pic floating around here years back of him in full disco (aka prom) attire. Twas classic.

Wasn't a big fan of any of these although Diamond Rio had some killer vocals. As for Blackhawk, Henry Paul was the lead singer and former front man for the Outlaws. If you want to find some really good, but not real well known music, pull up some of his stuff from Henry Paul Band. Kind of a cross between southern rock and country, pre-Blackhawk days.

1994 on the other hand brought us great country classics like. "I'm an Indian outlaw......half Cherokee and Choctaw...My baby she's a Chippewa....she's a one of a kind!"

I hated the karma Kameleon genre. And disco was a weird offshoot of music.
But we were still in the throws of 70's rock and roll. Southern rock. And then came along Metal.
Our music was about the party. If we wanted our music to save the world, we listened to Rush. There was no "I hate my mommy" bullshit.
Yes. Some bands of the 90's were a bit creative, but the grunge, dark shadow, psychotic bullshit that started at that time was major suckage.
Very few bands created music more than 3 minutes long. Even my high school senior son prefers 70s, 80's rock to the new stuff. You need to watch Eddie and the Cruisers II. Eddie explains all of this...

When Soundgarden was the 1st grunge band in the late 80s (yes before Nirvana and PJ and Alice), it was a totally raw response to the bullshit, fake assed hair bands that had saturated music. If you listen to the actual music in the alternative genre, it had a closer resemblence to Black Sabbath and Led Zepp than most of the cheesy 80s stuff. Fact is most rock n roll was dark and grungy from the 70s on. It is what it is.
And if you read a lot of the back stories behind the "I hate my parents" attitude, you'd see those guys were pretty justified. Some of them had some pretty shitty dads who did some pretty atrocious shit to them. It was their outlet I guess.
Eddie and the Cruisers.....good stuff. I bet you have Beaver Brown Band on 8 track.

I do not agree..
But wasn't Osbourne more Punk? Was thinking that was the thought behind why he and Cobain never got off the ground much.
Dude looks like sideshow bob.

Closer to Metal than punk. Way too slow to be considered punk. Really grunge best describes the Melvins. Proto-grunge I guess.
-

Now that's just mean. They were not making 8 tracks when Beaver Brown did the soundtrack.
I did have some old music on 8-track though. 8-track had great sound, but the medium was just too bulky.
Many say 94 was a bad year for music. Cobain died and Beiber was born. Bad trade?

I heard the name Eddie Vedder a lot, but never really paid attention to who he sang for. I think during that time I was primarily country as I did not like the sound..

I hope you are joking, but...
Get the Pearl Jam "Ten" album, start on the first song and let it play all the way through. If you don't like that shit, something is wrong with you...

I'm sure I have hummed along to most of it over the years. I just did not get into that scene back then.
And besides, none of it came on 8-track...

From a technical standpoint, to compare the country music of the 90's to the atl rock of the 90's is almost laughable. I like country music in general (mainly the old shit) but the 90s produced a lot of shit in that genre. It was like what the 80's new wave stuff was to the rock/pop genre.
WE!!! is correct about Ten though. PJ wasn't as appreciated then as I think they are now in retrospect and I think they sometimes got overshadowed AT THE TIME by Nirvana and the Cobain saga. But they are as solid of a rock band as you are going to find. And they werent the only ones.
PJ
STP
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
Chizad, Wes and maybe WE!! can appreciate the importance that Temple of the Dog (little known to most) had on the entire genre becoming as big as it did.
STP's "Core" was a pretty damn sick album too. "Purple" wasn't bad either.

Two albums we are leaving out of the conversation are Greenday- Dookie and Weezer- Blue album. Both of those were great from start to finish.
