Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking a look at some of the top recruiting targets at each position group for the Tigers for the Class of 2015. Today, we take a look at five of Auburn's top prospects at the linebacker positions, all of whom happen to be ranked among the top overall prospects in the nation by the major recruiting services.
Jeffery Holland
6-foot-2, 230 lbs
Trinity Christian Academy/Jacksonville, FL
Auburn's top linebacker target is also one of the top overall linebacker prospects in the nation. Holland named Auburn among his top six back in January and has a family connection to the Tigers (his uncle is a former Auburn basketball player). Holding off the home-state Florida Gators could be tough but the Tigers seem to have plenty of early momentum with this elite outside linebacker.
Ricky DeBerry
6-foot-2, 240 lbs
St. Christopher's/Richmond, VA
This instinctive pass rusher from Virginia could wind up at either linebacker or defensive end, depending on how he develops physically. The Tigers were among the first to offer him a scholarship all the way back in May of 2013 and DeBerry has said he plans to visit the plains at some point this spring.
Roquan Smith
6-foot-2, 203 lbs
Macon County HS/Montezuma, GA
Few prospects have had more early flirtations with Auburn than Smith, with the Georgia star visiting Auburn four times in the last year. Smith was also among the first prospects to receive a visit from Gus Malzahn and his staff following the end of the dead period in January, something that made a big impression on him. Smith has also shown strong pass coverage skills, making him a potential candidate for the Star position.
Darrell Williams
6-foot-3, 205 lbs
Hoover HS/Hoover, AL
One of a strong group of prospects from powerhouse Hoover High School, Williams is an athletic sideline-to-sideline player with explosive pass rushing abilities as well. Both Auburn and Alabama have been in pursuit from early on and both received multiple visits from Williams last season. The Hoover star's recruitment could shape up to be one of the most intriguing in-state battles of the 2015 cycle.
Richard McBryde
6-foot-2, 210 lbs
Charles Henderson/Troy, AL
McBryde has seen his stock soar following an impression junior season for Charles Henderson and the four-star prospect is hoping his positive momentum lands him offer from the Tigers when he visits Auburn this weekend for Junior Day. The visit will be McBryde's first since the Iron Bowl and if the Tigers decide to extend an offer, it may not take long for the rising star to pull the trigger.
