One of the most intimidating venues in college football is about to become even more foreboding, for the competition that is.
Plans for Texas A&M’s Kyle Field have been amended to increase seating from 94,000 to 102,500. New plans also include adding canopies to the east and west upper decks and a special “12th Man†section that will remain empty on the second deck of the east stand to represent “the burning desire to serve.â€
Houston-based companies Manhattan Construction Group and Vaughn Construction are managing the $450 million redevelopment project that began immediately following the last home game of the 2013 Texas A&M football season.
“This year is a transition year for us in terms of the work being done on Kyle Field,†John Sharp, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, said in a release. “And I’m pleased to report that the team working on this project is doing a fantastic job; we are both on time and on budget for the 2014 season.â€
Manhattan Construction is also building the University of Houston's new stadium, which is slated to open by August. Click here to see renderings of that stadium.

Maybe if you didn't sell tickets for the section so that you could seat veterans or first responders and their families it would make sense, but I have no idea how having an empty section says "we have a burning desire" to do anything other than waste space and money.

I would think the aggies would avoid anything to do with a "burning desire", especially after that bonfire mishap.

Here's my thought - and I had an Ag here at the office agree given the fuckover he got on his seats this season - he is being relocated from the seats he's had for a long time due to the renovation.
They will probably sell those seats and put a plaque on them that says "This seat is reserved for the 12th Man Colonel Chester Willynipple, who has a burning desire to serve." And some idiot donor will pay for the privilege of having seats he can't sit in.
Another thought was that they are stuck with some seats with an obstructed view or that exceed the Fire Code or something if humans actually sat in them - so they are marketing them to make money even though they are empty.
Then there's advertising...

I read, granted what I read was in English, so it might of gotten lost in translation, that those seats were for people who died in the bonfire tragedy.

I got the scoop: there are 12 seats being set aside to represent the 12th man. Yes, 12 people died in bonfire accident but srsly? Burning desire to serve?
But just as I suspected, people will pay for the privilege of NOT sitting in those seats.
