I typically like Patrick, but....

"Do you find yourself after watching film of Alabama feeling scared of how good they are?"
"Yes, Dickfuck.  We're terrified of the big bad crimson guys who hit really hard.  We wish we didn't have to play this game."

"Do you think you could be friends with Nick Saban?" (smirk)
"Well, I have a respect for him as a coach and I think we have a respect for each other."
"Yeah but do you think you could be friends with him?"
"No.  He's an asshole.  A total mommy part.  Someone you can't be friends with because he's always gameplanning, which is why his program is better than mine."

I thought Malzahn handled this very well. Patrick was just doing his job and was probably interested to find out about the relationship. Obviously, he doesn't understand the rivalry. I don't know if Bear and Shug were "friends" but I would guess that they were as close to that as any other two opposing coaches for these teams have been. It isn't possible to be fishing buddies and coach at these two schools. Would not work.

Sani would probably be able to weigh in on this better than most on here.  But, I think Bear and Dye had what would be considered a real friendship.  Or maybe at least one hell of a lot of respect for each other professionally.

. I don't know if Bear and Shug were "friends"

I doubt they were, Shug stood for things, fought for things, tried to do things the right way. (I met him when I was a kid)

Bear cheated and stole things because he could. There fan base is a typical of him.

I think respect is the best word to use.  Bear gave him his first chance at coaching so you know there is always some loyalty in that situation.

In regard to the interview...
Patrick -  "Are you friends?"
Gus at the 4:45 mark - "I have a respect for him and he's done a great job at that place."

That shit is funny.

I caught that and so did Patrick.  #winning
