1. Both sides of the aisle are petty and mean. That may be an elementary way of describing them, but I don't believe their actions warrant much higher vocabulary. They're acting like school children.
2. The gov't has too much power. It may be microcosm of bigger issues, but the following agencies are closed right now:
Ability One - A program that assists the blind
American Battle Monuments Commission - Want to go see Gettysburg? Sorry. You'll have to wait.
Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board - That April 15th explosion in Texas? Yeah, sorry.
Department of Interior (National Parks) - Closed. Planned a big trip? Got your vacation time? Saved up your money to see Yellowstone? Sorry.
Institute of Museum and Library Services - Sorry. No learning will happen here.
National Gallery of Art - No culture for you!
Smithsonian - How many of you went on that big 5th grade trip to DC? Sorry, 5th grades this year get nothing! Nothing!
US Commission of Fine Arts - Closed. Go drown in a river, creative people.
US Holocaust Memorial - Closed. Want to pay your respects? Download a picture off the internet, plebians.
NASA - Partially closed. Have a 3 day weekend planned so you can take your son to the space and rocket center? Fuck you!
And that's the gist of it - Fuck you! The gov't has shut down, and because they can't figure out how to agree or compromise or discuss anything, they've decided to take away a number of enjoyable and needed services.
This should be a bigger outrage if you ask me. Honestly, I believe the government will try to expand their hand in what they can shut down in a scenario like this. I mean, why are air traffic controllers still fully employed? That would get the citizens' attention, right? Only essential flight traffic will be allowed. NFL and college football games are suspended until the end of the government shut down.

None of them are "needed". And most are not a govt responsibility.
We've been conditioned over time as to what is needed and what their role is. It's sad but most now want more govt tit. These pain points during the shutdown (which is only a 15% shutdown) aka whining, illustrate that.
The fact that the President has purposely made things worse by shutting down things people enjoy when it doesn't cost a dime in the first place, is pretty low down. It's costing more to put 3 park rangers at the ww2 memorial and keep people out than it is to leave it open, which is free. I've walked up to all of these DC monuments and most are unmanned. It makes no sense other than to try and make it hurt for political motives.

I applaud the republicans for standing their ground. They submitted a perfectly viable solution, but the socialist party did not want that. The black jesus even went as far as saying he would discuss issues with the republicans AFTER he got what he wanted. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
Now is the time to take a stand. If the great ONE closes all of the freebies, let him. He has already seen the public backlash is pretty strong. And as more and more people find out their Obummercare is not FREE, we can start to turn this thing around. Unless we just cave and wait till it is too late.

And I might add that in some way or another, most of us either work for the gov't indirectly or benefit from the the gov't indirectly BUT there is just too much damn gov't. Can't say I've noticed anything was shut down. Bottom line is that although I hate to see people lose their job, we need to start trimming gov't programs and jobs.

There is a shit ton of people who need to lose their job in D.C. But even when they (resign/retire/fired) they keep a large pension and go on their merry way.
