Not one vote in either poll. Kansas State is 1-1 with a loss to an FCS school and received votes.
-
And we're 2-0 and just beat two teams who: 1. beat a top 25 team and 2. won their conf last year. Until week 8 or so, polls are just useless.
-
Honestly, I don't care about Auburn being ranked right now and a part of me hopes that the team will not for another two weeks. I tend to think this would be good for Auburn in being more motivation.
-
So I scanned through College Football Final.. forgive me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any coverage of Auburn on it. Additionally, there was very little coverage on Sportscenter. Like I said I could be wrong, I scanned through Football Final on my DVR twice via fast forward.
Like I said before, I think there is a little bit of SEC fatigue going on and the belief that Ark St was another cupcake game for the SEC (I want to say Chris Low on ESPN made a remark about it). I thought Aub/Ark St was a much better match up than LSU vs UAB though, yet they were all over that game with highlights due to the high scoring offense. Ole Miss's game vs Vandy was high visibility, thus they broke in.
AP poll is garbage, and Coaches poll tends to reflect perennial preference as well. If Aub beats Miss St next week, then it's going to be hard not to put them in the top 25. Plus that game is on ESPN2 during prime time (NOT FSN or whatever), so that game should get some visibility.
If Auburn happens to be undefeated though and LSU remains the same (likely) week 4, that one will have eyes all over it. Even with a loss, if Auburn plays them close I think it helps to remain top 25 over some other one-loss teams.

Arkansas received votes after their gusty fourth-quarter comeback against a 1AA (not even the 2-time repeating champs Like N Dakota)
Don't think I saw any votes for WSU either - seems like usually an "upset" on the road garners a few votes

RECspn doesn't admit when they're wrong and nearly all of the RECspn picked ASU to beat Auburn...so, when that didn't happen, they'll act like that game was never ever played.

Not for nothin but does anyone here expect us to win the MNC?
Then do the polls really matter?

Yes.
In terms of hyping games and getting better TV spots, polls and rankings matter.

Yes.

And better recruiting for long term success. And a better opportunity to be ranked higher next year when it will matter.
All "would rather be under-ranked to motivate the team" logic should have been abandoned in 2004.
Asinine that Ole Miss gets put in for beating Southeast Missouri State 31-3. A team that lost to Southeast Louisiana 45-7 last week. That and squeaking out a win against Vandy.
Yet we get not one lousy vote for last week beating the team that knocked off USC, and this week snapping the 2nd longest winning streak in the FBS in a 38-9 route. A team that won their conference championship, and their bowl game.
That's just one ridiculous team. I could keep going.
Six ranked teams are .500 right now. Bowling Green got a vote and we didn't. Northern Illinois got a vote and we didn't. The coach's poll is even worse.
I concur about ESPN pretending this game didn't exist, which is surprising considering the mountain of storylines they could have made hay with. Half our staff coaching there last year. The Dyer thing. Tuberville started his coaching career their. Cam's head coach at Blinn went to Arkansas State.
Yet, when I was stuck at a wedding in the middle of nowhere and couldn't even get reception on my cell phone to check the score, me and some guys snuck into the basement of the house down the road from the reception to try to at least catch the score. Not only could we not find the game on one of the 30+ sports channels they had there, our score never once ran across the ticker.
Fuck the world.

I liken this team to 2009. In that season we had the excitement of the HUNH carrying us and remember that ESPN put us out there in highlights for everyone to see. It was impressive after going 5-7/2-6 in '08 with Tubs leaving. Sure there are countless differences but Auburn will get love when it actually does something to signal a return. We must beat Mississippi State any way we can next week to cement the marquee match-up in Baton Rouge. It would be just as attractive in Auburn. The East is fluttering right now so the focus is on the West with Alabama at Texas A&M and that doesn't change on the 20th.
It's more intriguing than Arizona State-Stanford or Tennessee-Florida.

We need to punch Mississippi State in the nuts. Hard.

Someone needs to tell Mullen's bitch wife to be sure and bring them to the game.

They must be all the way in the back, Sabbun's are right on top of the tongue

Ole Miss will beat the T-Sips this weekend and we'll have to hear about how they are the true contenders in the west.
By the way, Texas getting 26 votes in the AP and 38 in the Coach's is perhaps the biggest joke of all.
BYU lost to Virginia last week, who lost 59-10 to Oregon this week. BYU routs Texas this week 40-21. Yet they're still getting that many votes and we've got zero??
Mind boggling.
There really is a world of difference with the ability to use logic to rank teams in the preseason vs. after just two weeks. None of the pollsters seem to be utilizing this logic.
Granted, the transitive property of football is far from foolproof, but it's a better start than any failed logic the pollsters are currently using, obviously.

Same logic that had the Gators 15 and now has (a previously unranked) Miami ranked 15. Anyone who watched that game should know that Miami in no way deserves to be 15 especially considering teh gusty gtahs didn't deserve to be 15 in the first place. Should the U be ranked yes...but probably around 23 or so.
That is why I don't really give a fuck about the polls. If you're not first you're last.

I couldn't stop watching for the fact that I wanted to see just how shitty that game could get.
