@2Ruly_Blessed89: "Used to be able to do anything the night before a workout.. Party.. Stay up all night.. Etc! Now days you do that & you will #FORSURE die.."
Fucking SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?!?! It's amazing we won a fucking game after all of the (CTT) seasoned upperclassmen left, Jesus Harold Christ.
-
Wow, no wonder we got the shit beat out of us last year.
-
Wow, no wonder we got the shit beat out of us last year.
That relaxed atmosphere worked with the upperclassmen, because they'd been through the â€work, hard work†they'd been through the strict discipline in the weight room, that's all they knew. So, the relaxed atmosphere was somewhat welcomed, but those players still busted their ass in the weight room, because they still had that fear of Coach Yox.
Starting with the first class of recruits '09, they began the next few years of not having to fear Coach Yox, because the discipline had been taken away from Yox by Coach Chizik, also enter in Coach Troop, the coach that would eventually put all of the players under his wing and basically keep them from being somewhat scolded (Coach Chizik getting in Daren Bates' face during a Special Teams play in '11, iirc).
Now we have a full team that hasn't felt a real 4am mat drills, fans off and trash cans placed all around the gym to throw up in, then going to class (those bring back some fond memories) and a full team that doesn't fear the Strength & Conditioning Coach...that's hopefully going to change and it'll be a hard lesson for a handful of players. I'm still thinking that there'll be around 5 players leaving (not including OL Christian Westerman & QB Clint Moseley), because the hard practices and training hasn't started yet.
-
My animosity towards Gene Chizik is gone. It's gone forever. I don't want to ever feel any sense of rage about the 2011 and 2012 seasons again.
I will use this moment to reflect on Jaylon's tweet and feel FUCKING ECSTATIC ABOUT THE FUTURE! WE'RE COMING BACK BITCHES!

It's not terribly difficult to understand.
You make shit so hard on them that they cling to each other.
The Corps has been doing it for years.

Long live the corp and those jarheads too.

This is concerning. Workouts have their place but this staff needs to realize that staying up all night and partying are an important part of our culture. That's the problem with hiring old dudes like Ellis. You think he's ever smoked spice?

I just know you were being sarcastic. :haha:
But, the culture is a changing. Either they will change with it or be gone. It's really that simple.

If you have never been awakened by a drill instructor, emphatically telling you to get the fuck up and get "on line" then you don't know what you are missing. Maybe we need to hire a former drill instructor to be a discipline coach.

I say instead of hiring one let's just petition the commandant for the entire team to experience the first two weeks or so of boot camp. Surely chartering a bus to Parris Island can't cost that much.

Well, they bus the players to LaGrange and Montgomery before all home games so it shouldn't be an issue.

Not likely. His generation was more likely to huff a can of Rustoleum or take a big drag of aerosol from canned whipped cream than do this new fangled shit kids do these days.

The first two weeks are just a cultural shock. "Welcome to Parris Island, you have exactly ten seconds to get the fuck off of my bus". I would love to see the players "in the pit" and "making sugar cookies". That would in fact, "weed out" any of the non-hackers who don't belong in my beloved corps.

ain't no sense in looking down, ain't no discharge on the ground.

That's just in Hollywood, cause that's how us west coasters roll.
Sugar cookies? Not familiar with that term.. We had to "make it snow" in our pits. Which was laying on your back, with your mouth and eyes wide open, while throwing dirt in the air. Right before chow.

Serious question for the Jarheads on the X. Is there some part of Marine training that makes you want to drink the strongest and harshest coffee? I work with one and he has his own coffee pot in his office. 8 scoops for 10 cups on the first go round and then the next pot he puts 5 more scoops on top of the used grounds from the first pot. I like the coffee from the first pot and thought I could drink strong coffee, but that second pot is damn near undrinkable.

It's not a course but I gotta say I am the same way. Very few will drink my coffee. At the office they actually invested in a coffee service that has pre-measured packs. They then instructed me to only use one pack per pot of coffee.....(I fuck'em anyway though and use three filters) I like my coffee thick enough so a horse shoe will float on top of it.
I know it's better than putting cigarette tobacco in the corner of my eyes to stay awake or eating the instant coffee and shooting it with water.
Good times.

I like strong coffee but his is unreal after the first pot. We have those at work and I have used two before, that pot stays full most of the day. I have a Keurig in my office and I have a cup that actually holds four and run a k-cup though twice. Coffee and Copenhagen are the only things that keep me awake most mornings.
Honestly, I never touch the stuff.
You are the first Marine that I know of that doesn't.

1 1/2 of PT, jeez we called that Sat morning in the 101st. 4am to 5am calisthenics and then 5am to 6am a nice run for one hour with stops along the way for the 25/35 count. 25 pushups/35 situps and get back and run. 6 to 6:30 cool down, which was normally more push ups and sit up.
Fun times.
And I was never a coffee drinker. We would be done with PT and the lifers would get them a cup of coffee and light'em one up. Never undersdtood how they could do that.

At least you aren't 4th like Sani.

Meanwhile, over at the Navy base, drunken sailors were just staggering back to the boat reeking of cheap booze and cheaper women.
You sand pounders and your silly push ups. Suckers, the lot of ya!

I remember one run at 3/187th Ft. Campbell, where it was 2 degrees above zero and all we had were those stupid yellow sweats to run in. I wore boxer underwear that morning and my shit froze numb. I had to take a pee to thaw it out.

I was 2nd/187th-We took off on a run when it well below freezing and had snowed/sleet the night before. We turned around (walking) back to the unit because the lead plt and hit an Icy patch and three had broken bones and was knocked out from hitting his head.
I was MSB 101st.
Not sure I remember what MSB stood for. I was gone all the time, stationed there 13 month and prolly deployed or in the field 11 of those. The 101st was serious about their Army.

He was in the rears.
A main (or mobile) support battalion (MSB) was a US Army logistics formation in the pre-modular army. The role of the MSB was to support soldiers in the division rear and provide designated reinforcing support to the forward support battalions. [1]

Artillery batt did that in South Korea one time and almost everyone passed out. Only upside was they didn't inhale any mosquitoes that were swarming over the rice patties.
