Who would be worth more as a pro franchise? Study gives Auburn edge over Alabama

What would the Auburn and Alabama football programs be worth in if they were pro franchises?

A whole lot of money, according to today's Wall Street Journal.

The Journal said today that Auburn is the sixth most valuable football program in the nation, checking in a cool $508.1 million. Alabama is eighth at $476 million. You know, almost a billion dollars, total.

That's good, but Texas and Michigan are the runaway leaders. Texas is first at a whopping $761.7 million and Michigan is second at $731.9 million. Florida is the most valuable SEC team, coming in third nationally at $599.7 million. Five SEC teams are in the Top 10 and nine are among the 18 most valuable programs.

The Journal says Ryan Brewer, an assistant professor of finance at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, calculated the value of the programs based on each program's revenues and expenses and made cash-flow adjustments, risk assessments and growth projections for each school.

Says the Journal: "The resulting figures represent what the teams might fetch if they could be bought and sold like pro franchises."

The complete list of all major-college football programs is on the Journal's website (http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-VW798_COUNT0_G_20130106200910.jpg).

He looked at the average per capita income of the respective fan bases.  That's why Bammer's wear thrift store $5.00 Got 12 T-shirts and Auburn people wear $60.00 Under Armour hoodies.

That's why they're able to get the $5.00 shirt rather than the $3.00 shirt with the holes in it.

This article is obviously completely flawed and incorrect.  They didn't take into account the fact that Saban is worth 3 - 4 million redneck souls, worth roughly $23,457.32.
