Title: Heads are rolling in the NFL
Post by: djsimp on December 31, 2012, 01:56:59 PM
By my count, there have been 7 NFL head coaches fired as of right now.

In b4 the obligatory Saban to Cleveland post.

Shit, with this many teams that will be looking around, I would think Saban could get a lot better gig that the Browns.

I was just coming on here to post this - Saban could pick and choose and write his own terms.

PLEASEOHPLEASEOHPLEASEPLEASEOHPLEASEOHPLEASEPLEASEOHPLEASEOHPLEASEPLEASEOHPLEASE.

And I have to be honest - my reasons for wanting him gone are slightly more about watching the Turd nation go into mourning than they are about getting that sawed off little fuck out of the SEC.  Close race, but anything that makes the Turds miserable is worth it to me.  Granted, they have Kirby queued up and ready to go, but talk about the shortest leash in all of the NCAA... he loses one game he ain't supposed to and BAM!  Zooked.

Back on track - I actually feel the worst for Andy Reid.  That had to have been the worst crop of "playahs" in the NFL - not too sure all of that is his fault.

And the Saints lock Payton up with the largest contract in the NFL - suck it, haters.  Who dat is gonna be back sooner than you think.

How has Rex Ryan survived so far?  I thought he'd be one of the first.

I feel bad for Andy Reid also but that roster is in a hot mess.

The two teams that imo have the best immediate chance for success are the Bears and the Cardinals. You would think these guys will come out with the best hires.

Dunno. From all the chatter I have read, both Rex and whatshisname from the Cowgirls are not out of the woods just yet.

Also, I had heard several of those gum flappers on ESPN say they believe Ron Rivera would be canned too.

Lovie Smith from the Bears surprises the shit out of me, 12-6 this year.  What the hell do those people want.

I heard some talking heads today saying all these immediate firings are the result of wanting to win the Chip Kelly sweepstakes.  Have a hard time seeing him in the NFL, and even harder time imagining him having any success, at least if he plans to run that offense anyway.

Not that I think either is going, but I would think Saban would be much more likely than Chipper.

Apparently so. But I've always thought he would make a helluva football coach. Not as good as Bobby Petrino of course but pretty damn good.

I have no idea what Saban will or won't do.  I think it would depend on the owner as to which he'd prefer.  An owner willing to give his HC total control, I'd see him wanting Saban.  They say the Browns owner is like that.  However, the HUNH has filtered up to the NFL, and I can see some owners wanting to get a true HUNH guru to take it to the next level in the NFL, and make it their full time offense.  He'd have to adapt a lot of what he does...just don't think you can make a living in the NFL running the option.  Maybe he's good enough to run a pro style spread HUNH.  I don't know.  The talking head think he's being courted by many teams.

The option that Kelly runs is a zone read that leaves the end unblocked. I would think that a run game could be successful to some degree but not so much with the pass option that works off of it...not against NFL defenders anyway.

But...but....but....they're just so fast.
Personally, I don't see Kelly being successful if he did try to implement the same offense at that level.  Virtually every single time his club runs up against a a defense that's big and physical up front, they're taken out of their game. Every single NFL team has that with linebackers 240+ who can run.  I give the guy credit, though.  He's done nothing but win.  I just don't see that style translating to success in the NFL.

As for Lord Saybinz, my guess would be if he wins next week, he's more likely to move on to a new challenge.  I had always thought he'd be the one to follow Paterno and finish out his career close to home. However, no one could foresee that epic clusterfrick.  But, who knows.  O'Brian is rumored for soem NFL jobs, including Cleveland.

There's more to his option series than that.  Still don't think it will work in the NFL.  His offense thrives on being simple so it can be run at light speed.  You can't run that simplistic an offense at the NFL level, and be successful IMO.

Heads are rollin' in the Battle for teh Burrbinz.  14-6 with 208 points so far.  If I keep this up, I could finish solidly in the upper part of the lower portion of the middle of the pack.

Rex isn't going anywhere.  The owner made that announcement today when announcing that they had fired their GM.  I'm not so sure that Ryan deserves to get fired either.  The Jets have made some questionable personnel moves (i.e., Tebow), and that is half of the problem IMO.  Their OC probably needs to go as well.  Tebow was a waste.  Not that he can't fit in somewhere, but in the sense that the Jets weren't going to make wholesale changes such as the Broncos did to make him fit.  They went after him with the theory that they would figure out what to do with him once they got him.  He didn't really fill a need.

Disagree.

In fact, I think it puts him one step closer to retirement.

While I agree in theory, some NFL owner may throw enough money at him that he can see that his great, great grandchildren are wealthy, but more importantly, give him complete control.  Complete control, with a chance to prove yourself at the HIGHEST LEVEL, may be too much to turn down.  That said, I'd lean towards what you said.
