Title: To all the Petrino Lovers
Post by: AUTailgatingRules on December 06, 2012, 11:37:05 AM
Why can't he even get a sniff from the train wreck that is Tennessee?

Not sure.  Their recent history of making excellent head coach hires indicates they're doing the right thing, though.

I understand that he may be desperate to get back into the game, but look at what has happened in that coaching search.  Everybody is turning them down.  I don't think that Malzahn got a sniff from Tennessee either.  It doesn't necessarily mean anything.  I haven't seen any rumors floated that Petrino is interested in UT either.  I do think that something is really, really wrong up there though.  Not sure what.  They have incredible facilities, a good talent pool of recruits to pull from, etc.  Everybody is telling them no thanks.  Everybody.

But according to so many, he's "the best coach available" and still UT won't go after him??????

From a sense of the actual job of coaching a team, I think he is the best coach that is absolutely available.  I have no doubt that he could win some games wherever he goes.  However, he isn't going to get consideration for some jobs due to the affair.  Is that why he didn't get consideration at AU?  Who knows.  Is that why he isn't getting consideration at UT?  I don't know.  Do I think he could win at UT?  Abso-fucking-lutely.  I think that he could win the SEC East within 2 years.  The affair is simply a sticking point for some programs.  It doesn't have shit to do with his coaching ability.

Honestly, who the hell cares.  We have our own issues.  Fuck Tennessee.

AUTR you need to let the Petrino thing go, we get it you didn't want him.  Neither did I, neither did a lot of folks.

I would have taken him over Malzahn though....just saying.

I hope they do get Petrino. A strong UT is bad for Bama.

Tub's name is circulating now.

It's kind of like that slutty smoking hot girl in high school.  You know she's been around, and maybe she cheated on some other guy.  She has baggage.  Your friends are going to tell you that you're making a mistake.  But she's hot, and you're not going to care about any of that when you're fucking her.  So you're going to take a chance.  Or, you don't care how hot she is or how good in bed she is, and you don't want your dick to fall off.

It's all a matter of preference, and a matter of how much of a risk you want to take.

Petrino at UT would be killer if he kept Bray, Hunter, and Patterson for one more year.

He could set the tone early and then pull in recruits.

As an Alabama fan, I do not want Tubs' ass back in the SEC.  I don't see the connection that a strong UT is bad for Alabama.  A strong LSU and a strong UGA hasn't seem to have bothered Alabama too much, both on the field and in recruiting.  I will say that Tubs being back in the SEC is probably bad for any school that isn't employing him.  He's a damn good coach.  I don't think that Auburn fans should want him back in the SEC either.

I'd agree except New Tubs is not Old Tubs.

If Tuberville came back with a west coast offensive coordinator, I'd be worried about him.  But he's still doing the Tony Franklin thing, and it's working well in the Big 12, but he has no defense.

He isn't stupid.  He adapted, and as you noted, he adapted well.  Frankly, I think that he was ahead of the curve by trying to bring a Franklin-like offense to the SEC.  Think about that concept for a minute.  Really, the only mistake that he made was he hired the wrong coordinator.  He didn't all of a sudden forget how to coach in 2007.  You and I both know that.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't on the we must have Petrino bus.  If we would have gotten him I would have been neither upset about it nor overly excited.  I didn't care for his selfishness or the jetgate stuff and I think we would have been beat-up by it pretty bad.  I also think it would have been pretty hypocritical to try and clean up a program and tell these kids they need to get in line, when the head coach got himself in hot water.

Here is the thing though....  I recognize, he was also a hell of a good football coach and ran a good program.  At the end of the day we pay football coaches to win ballgames.  Yeah you can spout good men and graduating players....but honestly do any of you truly give a crap if the player graduates or not?  Certainly I want the players to be successful and go to class but if they don't graduate that is on them, not the coaches.  You want to win football games...that is the point!

That being said, here are my thoughts.  If we had asked Strong, Patterson, Petersen, Whom ever else you think is better (and sorry right now as a coach you can not consider Gus Malzahn better then Petrino) and I am talking really went after them.  And we were turned down...then yes I say you go after Bobby Petrino.

Argument but he opened up Arkansas to a world of legal troubles.  Very true...he did he screwed them over and he was fired for it.  Did he learn his lesson?  I have no idea.

What I do know though is that you can write contracts specifically to adress any issues you are concerned about Bobby Petrino making.  You can limit his hiring to just main staff.  Things can be done to make sure the school is safe.

If you don't like him personally or think the affair was horrible. I agree 100% but his wife is still with him and he is still a good football coach.

Funny that AUTR and blogle are still the only ones talking about Petrino.

I care. I sincerely do. Does that mean I'm willing to be the Vandy football (of old) in order to have better grades and grad rates? No. It's a balancing act. GPA awards are great but don't put asses in JHS.

Well you kind of have to care now a days.  Flunk out enough players and you start losing Scholarships.

They replied early on that he wouldn't be a candidate.
