It's always 1978 in the world of KISS. And for people like me who still like wailing guitars, stressed vocals, a pounding drum line and some straight ahead rock, staying in 1978 isn't really such a bad thing.
KISS has a new CD (Monster) coming out in October. The first cut from the disk snuck out into the ether today.

It is what it is. It's not some complicated Gotye shit. There's no autotune. It's just basic rock.
The sound is like a mix of something you'd have heard on Love Gun with something from the Hot In The Shade era maybe.
They aren't breaking any new ground, but for me (and maybe nobody else in the world), there's something comforting about tilling the same fertile fields they've plowed before.
Based on this one cut I'm cautiously optimistic. I lied to myself about Psycho Circus. It wasn't good. Sonic Boom was way better but some of it seemed forced. This cut felt right. Like they'd finally figured out the old punch.
Now bash away, bash away, bash away all.

For those who care, the new song is out today on iTunes.
I have downloaded it, of course.
This is a departure from their previous CD Sonic Boom which was, I believe, hampered by an exclusive contract with Wal Mart. The Wal Marts around here did nothing at all to promote it despite the exclusive agreement.
Better to be on iTunes and in Best Buy etc.
