Title: Lindy's Preseason Mag
Post by: Snaggletiger on June 04, 2012, 01:17:17 PM
Ran across the new Lindy's Saturday and picked it up.  It's tradition for me.  I have to pick up a couple, Lindy's...Athlon...to get me through the summer.  As they normally do, they give play to different teams on different covers to entice suckers like me to buy.  Corey Lemonier was on one cover while Barrett Jones was on another.  I took the Lemonier Lindy's and promptly covered all the Jones covers with "Jet" and "Black Hair" magazines.

Anywho...not a bad issue with a great article on Grimes and the future of our O-line.  Pretty impressive, but made me think we're still a year away.  They really pimped Avery Young.  Lutzenschvantzenschtupel made 2nd team All-American at TE.  Matt Barkley is their #1 pick at QB. Hard to argue that but Denard Robinson at #2???  Plus, while Monte Ball was the #1 RB....they have Knile Davis #2.  Yes, he had a great 7 game stretch in 2010 but who even knows if he'll be recovered for this season.  I'd take any one of the 4 returning RB's from LSU over Davis.  Oh well.

Don't have it in front of me but I believe we were picked about 30th.  I can live with that until we prove otherwise.  Auburn had 5 losses last year, all to teams that won 10 or more games.  4 of which were on the road. Tough task, sure.....but you're not supposed to lose those by an average score of 42-14.  Ouch.  Until we start being more consistently competitive against elite teams, I don't think you can expect much more love than that right now.  Anyway, just getting into it but it pumps me up when the preseason rags start hitting the stands.

Kaos is the only person I know of who echoes my sentiments exactly on Denard Robinson. Guy is nothing but an arena league II/backyard football phenom. Has anyone ever bothered to look at this guy's stats? His TD/INT ratio was horrid last year. It was almost 1:1....in the fucking Big 10+1. Fucker just tosses it up for grabs hoping a WR will bail him out of it. Either that or he runs sideline to sideline for 3 mins to get 6 yards like McCallebb. Except Robinson is a QB. I just don't see the hype with this guy.

Robinson ran like crazy the first year or two. I think he'd have been better served playing running back.  I just don't think of the guy as a great QB and would have considered quite a few guys over him....even Tyler Wilson.  I think Onterrio McProne, Emory Blake and Lemonier were the others that got some top 20 love at their respective positions.  A little surprised they didn't have Clark or Parkey as one of the tops at their positions.

Haters gonna hate.  I'm neither a fan, nor a hater of Robinson.  He's in an offense he's not cut out for.  His TD/Int ratio over the last 2 seasons has been 4:3 and 3:2.   He's 39th in passing efficiency in 2011, out of the 100 the NCAA listed, a list where no Auburn QB's name appears from last season.  He averages a respectable 7.7 yards per pass attempt.  He's rushed for 2800 yards and about a 6ypc avg the last 2 years, and contributes roughly 35 TDs rushing and passing the last 2 years.  Is he a polished passer?  Well, no, but he wasn't recruited to be.  He may not be Heisman worthy, but he damn sure aint the scrub you and K make him out to be.

You're little barb thrown at McCaleb is shitty too, especially when you consider that this season, he'll need only about 70 yards rushing to surpass Lionel James, and James Bostic to crack the top ten in Auburn RBs for career yardage, and his YPC exceeds both of theirs.  He'll also probably crack the top 10 in career all purpose yards too.  He's done it while playing in the SEC at 170 lbs and staying healthy for the most part, which he'd have never done if he played like he weighed 250 and lowering his shoulder to get an extra yard like you and others think he should do.  Pretty damn good little football player if you ask me.  Not to mention he's been at Auburn 3 years, and I can't recall him being any trouble, and not doing what he's asked to do for the team.

Why would anyone be knocking O-Mac?

He was a crucial component of our 2010 championship run and there were many times last season when he was the only bright spot on the offense.  See the 1st quarter of the LSU game for reference.

Because he doesn't run like a between the tackles runner, and he's smart enough to get a decent gain and avoid big hits.  So, we got guys that call him McProne, and talk about how he runs around back and forth for 3 minutes to get 6 yards, which is a nice gain BTW.  Anybody that watches him knows he's not a cutter, he's straight line speed.  He gets to the edge, and gets good yards.

Hey I like OMac. I just think its funny how much he runs side to side. He has a great ypc avg. My comment was purely in harmless "funnin". I was not kidding about Robinson though. Not saying he is a bad player. But to put a QB who just had a 1:1 TD/INT ratio season as the #2 QB in the land (probably #1 if Barkley had went to the NFL)?? I think that was just nuts. Watch him play. He gets a lot of luck in his arena football style of play. Again, not saying he is bad. Just saying a lot of the media drool over him is unwarranted.

I was flipping through the Lindy's mag and the wind knocked Onterrio for a 3 yard loss.

Lighten up, Frances.  We're funnin' the guy because with all the great things he's done in his career, (And yes, he's had some damn fine runs) he has a tendency to crumple due to a lack of contact.

If you were 170lbs and toting the rock in the SEC, you'd do whatever you could to avoid a hit.

Seriously, when has UGA came through in the clutch and won a game that mattered on this level since Richt has been there? They will find a way to fuck up this NC run because they are forever the bridesmaid under Marky Mark. All that talent, and no leadership or toughness.

Didn't the Old Ball Corch make an off handed comment to this effect a month or so ago? Something along the lines of how he liked to play UGA at the start of the season because they usually always had several players out due to suspensions stemming from the offseason. Hilarious.

I also don't see our QB's from last year being put up on All American Teams either. Robinson is NOT an ALL American QB. Lindy's is off their rocker. I would go with Tyler Wilson over him anyday.

Bray and Murray are both good too. I would take either of them over Robinson as well. And I'll say this for about the 4th time for JR - I don't think Denard is a bad QB. In fact he is a good athlete. I'm just sick of the media drool over him. And placing him on an All America team is just ridiculous. I would like to see how that backyard style shit he plays would fare against Grantham's front 7 at UGA, or Saban's back 4 at Bama. How would it fare against Honey Badger? He would look like a fool. The Big Ten's Ds were exposed a lot last year in several 45-42 type games.

Just a minor tidbit of info I just heard on the radio that has nothing to do with Lindy's or any other hijack that occurred in this thread.  Fetal Moseley's shoulder is back to 100%....please...hold your applause.  Jeffrey Whitaker wanted to be quicker this year so he's dropped from 312 to 301.  This one I like....Corey Lemonier has added 7 pounds up to 247.  Back on the Lindy's, if you haven't checked out the article on Auburn, Lemonier's pic is not only on the cover, they also have a great action shot of him as the lead pic in the article.  That mofo is put together.

I juice.  Bought the Jack LaLane juicer years ago.  Never felt better.

Now you can pull tugboats across the SF bay. And swim to Hawaii and back with only an apple to live off of.
