Amid threats of violence, Bama fans obtain petition to roll Toomer's Corner
A group of well organized Alabama Crimson Tide fans--miffed over Auburn fans' pranks during last year's Iron Bowl--are apparently determined that should Alabama win Saturday's storied rivalry game, they are rolling Toomer's Corner.
Last year, Auburn fans taped a No. 5 Cam Newton jersey on Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's statue and seeded the grass near Bryant-Denny Stadium with the 28-27 score.
This year, with a very strong 10-1 Alabama team facing a somewhat weakend 6-4 Auburn team, Tide fans are seeking revenge. The internet publicity of fan intent has led to threats of violence and mayhem by Auburn fans, as seen in the message board posts below (click the image for the full resolution version).
The Alabama fans, led by the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the dreaded Red Elephant Club, anticipated the reaction beforehand and have taken legal steps to prevent any intervention in their planned, peaceful demonstration. They have obtained a permit application for use of the public space and intend to assert their rights under the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
"We absolutely intend to exercise our rights as citizens of the United States," said lead organizer Cal Gregory. "The intersection of College and University is public space. We have a right under the US Constitution to peaceably assemble and we have the right of free expression. We don't feel that public officials--be they University or local law enforcement--have the right or the authority to prevent our demonstration. We are not violent and we don't intend to start any trouble. We just want to express our joy and satisfaction after the game, should our team be victorious."
"Mr. Gregory is correct," said a Birmingham civil rights lawyer who has been retained by the Red Elephants in the event city or university officials attempt to deny the permit. "Their actions may come off as obnoxious to some and are likely to offend some people. But these people still absolutely have the right to peaceably assemble and celebrate."
-
But Harvey Updyke is a lunatic fringe, right? Nothing to do with the Alabama fan base, right?
-
This ends badly.
Stay classy bama.
-
I was there the first year Bama won in JHS. Had there not been a huge police presence keeping the fan bases apart, that would have ended real bad. One of the guys I was with past several cops and tried to start swinging at one Bama fan who was walking across the street with a roll.
Win or lose, I'll be at Toomer's Saturday evening, exercising my civil rights.
-
Gotdam, it's hard being an Alabama fan.
-
This is the same fan base filled with people who talk about Auburn people shit papering their own trees, and in general running down our tradition? And now THEY want to engage in an Auburn tradition that they make fun of? I really just don't understand these morons.
-

Word.

Let's go all Westboro Baptist on em'.

I almost want it to happen, and I want multiple people with HD cameras to film it.
Because the world needs to know that Token is the minority and Updyke is the norm.
Alabama fans are willing to cause physical harm to a university just to spite them because of a football game.
Wait...I'm sorry...an Auburn fan put a Cam Newton jersey on the sacred Bear statue.
-
I'll be there...ready to record the riot.
-
Here's the thing. I totally get playing a joke. The grass seeding is funny. In high school, we had a group of us who made it a point to do some kind of practical joke to our rival schools on game week. Chained and padlocked the doors to Lee H.S. shut. Put syrup and feathers on the General Lee statue. On Lanier week, we skipped school and drove over to Lanier to run across the big front lawn and raise a Jeff Davis flag up the pole. Hell, we had a toilet hoisted up ours. had three Lee football players go streaking down our halls on game day. Got caught, too. Mildly funny but overall, harmless shit.
This, on the other hand, is asking for a riot. You know good and well it wouldn't matter if you got a court order allowing you to do it with police protection. Someone is going to get hurt, bad.
-

What, now you're skeered?
-
What, now you're skeered?
I plan on being involved in it.
-
"6-4 Auburn team"
Am I the only one who caught that? Stupid motherfuckers.
-
I also love how that asshole makes it sound like Auburn fans are starting the bullshit.
I have no doubt that twenty years from now, Harvey Updyke will be remembered as "the guy that Auburn fans pushed too far."

Ya know...they are right. We really shouldnt have poked a stick at him by winning the game. What were we thinking.

You shoulda left Gen. Lee's statue alone on general purposes, but harmless.
Taping a jersey to a statue? Harmless. Seeding Rye grass? Harmless, AND all done on the sneak. As in not looking for a confrontation.
Killing old trees that are the heart of an Auburn tradition? Come on! Openly mocking the tradition for years, then taking out a permit to "demonstrate" on your opponent's campus with the same tradition? Fucking asking for whatever trouble finds them.

This is from Smokin Shane's blog.
He doesn't want that known and I believe has taken his name off of the contributors list from the site, but he's a big part of these assholes, and he's instigating this shit.
Cancer can't take his last breath soon enough.

What, now you're skeered?
Never.
By the way, most people on rivals and what not are calling this bullshit. I would hope so for the Alabama fans.

I think I'll have to make a special trip an hour up the road for some bammer ass kickin'.

Christ.......first Birmingham, now this shit. And some people wonder why I hardly ever wear any Bama gear. I hope that this is just a joke to fuck with AU fans.

How's the knee?
-
This has to be a joke just to get Auburn fans riled up. If they even try they're going to get their asses whooped by a bunch of angry Auburn fans. Auburn fans will outnumber Bama fans 10-1 as well as any police. I'm certain this is just talk. No idiot would be dumb enough to do this. But just in case we lose I'm heading to Toomer's with camera in hand. Don't want to miss any of this if it is true.
-
How's the knee?
Hurting, but not as bad as the first surgery.
I had a 5 mm tear in my medial meniscus that just never healed from previous repair. A cyst formed on that tear, then ruptured and put this nasty ass fluid all in my knee. Which explains why my knee felt like it was on fire 24/7. On the lateral meniscus, a small part of it never took to the bone when they reattached it previously. So, had to get that fixed too.
I'm actually really surprised at the difference in pain. On a scale of 1-10 as far as pain goes, my surgery last year was around a 20. This is like an 8 or 9.

I hope that they do get their asses beat. That's a self correcting problem, if you ask me. The police just need to make sure they have a slightly delayed response, or just don't see it. These dumbfucks deserve and ass whooping if they are serious about doing it.

If true?
It will backfire.
Far more likely that at least a couple ignorant Updyke-esque trailer dwelling bammers will have caught wind of this (after all it was reported on the reputable IBleedCrimsonRed), and will be there with TP in hand.
It will end badly for them.

And then the Updykes will flood Finebaum and Sound Off with calls about how the classless Aubs stopped to assaulting peaceful bammers over nothing. Teh Youtubes will have vids for all to see.
-
A guy I know, Bama fan, has already heard about this shit. He's taking toilet paper with him. When I tried to tell him how stupid it was, he insisted that it was no different than Auburn fans singing rammer jammer to Alabama after they win, and the Auburn fans wouldn't get that pissed about it.
I told him to be prepared to carry a stern thumping.
-
I don't get why anyone would do this. It is a guaranteed ass beating. I don't care if these Bama fans think they are king of the trailer park, they can't handle a fucking mob.
-

I can hear Finebaum now:
"You tell me, Auburn fans, what's worse? Injuring a tree? Or injuring a human being? Cause I don't think these criminal acts are any where near each other, ok?"
-
"The intersection of College and University is public space"
It's also a Chevron and an empty pasture. Dumb mother fuckers.
-
NO BAMMERS allow within 150' of those trees, no exceptions. Absolutely not. Don't make me have to show up there and protect those trees from that rotten smell coming out of UAT.
-
They'll backdate the submitted letter (like they backdate everything else)...Also Cam wore #2 stupid, fuckin, cock sucker writer.
Also, the bammers are going to try and roll Toomer's, because it's Auburn's Tradition. Maybe we should do spuat's tradishun...get drunk and beat the fuck out of all the bammers.
-
Yall give Shane a break, the cancer is affecting his memory.

Anybody notice the trollface in the bottom right of the application?
It's a fake.

THIS is exactly what I was talking about.
IBleedCrimsonRed is the AP Wire to these fringe fans. Completely unbiased source for news. Guarantee you your friend is not the only dipshit bammer that will take it to heart. Looks like the trolling is going to backfire bigtime.

Manned Homeland Security towers placed at Toomer’s Corner in preparation for Iron Bowl

War Damn Big Brother: Police keeping close eyes on Toomer's Corner this weekend.
Auburn police stationed a manned Sky Watch tower equipped with security cameras at Toomer’s Corner Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the Iron Bowl this Saturday.
“It’s some homeland security equpiment that we’re just making use of,” said Auburn Police Captain Tommy Carswell. “We’ve just moved that one to Toomer’s Corner to beef up our security there thinking it may play a role in what we need to do.”
Carswell said that placing the tower downtown isn’t necessarily in response to Internet rumors that Alabama fans are planning to roll Toomer’s Corner in the event of an Alabama win on Saturday, but simply a deterrent to any fan behavior that might jeopardize public safety.
“We don’t want fans fighting or drunks falling out in the street…. it’s there to serve a number of purposes,” he said. “I don’t know if there’s a concrete or tangible reason for putting it there, but we’ll be doing some recording there. This thing about poisoning the tree—I don’t think anybody else is is trying to do that but if so we very well may have it recorded.”
Alabama fans might be kept from directly harming the the Toomer’s Oaks, but would they have the legal right to roll Toomer’s Corner?
Carswell says yes.
“Our goal is not to say no Alabama fan can throw toilet paper. It’s not illegal for an Alabama fan to throw toilet paper than it is for an Auburn fan to throw toilet paper.”
“We’re going to do our jobs without violating anybody’s rights.”
But were Alabama to win, and if an Alabama fan were to try to roll Toomer’s Corner with toilet paper, they would be doing so at their own risk, at least when it comes to traffic—police do not block off the corner of College Street and Magnolia Avenue when Auburn loses.
“We don’t have any plans of closing off the corner if Alabama wins,” Carswell said. ” We do if Auburn wins. That’s our call.”
“If someone else wins, we’ re not making the decision to close it off and let them have it for an hour. All the roads will remain open. Now, if it comes to a point where the roads are open but someone is doing or causing something that’s keeping traffic from coming through, that’s an arrestable offense.”
Carswell said police are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best.
“Our first concern is preventing a breach of the peace and somebody getting hurt,” he said. “That’s why [the Sky Watch tower] is there, to keep the peace.”

What's a good over/under on how many years until the national guard is called in for the Iron Bowl?
I say three more years.

No kidding. Absolutely fucking ridiculous.

I see bad things happening this weekend. I hope no one show up in one of the "toomers" Bama shirts. This could actually be the end of the rivalry if things get out of hand.

Wait...what? Seriously?
Then by all means, may the toilet papering, rioting, brawling, police brutality-ing begin!

In other words, if Alabama does win and we see someone trying to roll the trees, if they are pushed into traffic they can be arrested...

They get what they deserve. As an Alabama fan, I wouldn't be caught anywhere near those trees wearing anything Alabama related. Even though I think Updyke is a piece of shit, and I don't agree with what he did, it would just be asking for trouble. As a fanbase, we should be ashamed of what that fuckstick did. I know I am. Any Bama fan who thinks it would be a good idea to go anywhere near/roll those trees after what Updyke did is getting what they deserve.
Fucking embarassing.

Especially if Auburn is able to pull out a W.

If bama fans roll the toomers trees I'll post the pictures of bloody teeth I knock out during their celebration. I'm a honey badger.
