Yes, I am questioning Gus today. Dyer had 132 and 2 TDs on 11 carries. Why not keep giving him the ball? I am disgusted with what I've seen today.
Its not just Roof, Chizik is to blame for this shitty ass defense too.

It's sad and embarrassing. Not like you need me to tell you this, but Jesus yes. What kills me is on alot of plays AU has it covered. They have a man in position to bust up the play. He just misses. Saw it about a hundred times today. It seems like the playcalling is half-ass there, it's just these guys can't tackle. Today was the first game AU has played this season that I really saw, but I was also confused by giving receivers a 10 yard cushion. I know you guys were bitching about it the other week, but I thought it was just here and there. It seemed like EVERY play DBs played very very soft. On the last Clemson drive AU finally started with some press coverage.
I can't imagine how fucking good we would be with a half-ass defense. Just tackle. JUST FUCKING TACKLE.
Defense has sucked ass for three years.
Why is everybody down on Roof? He keeps winning games. We are up to 18 in a r....
Oh wait. We finally lost. Is it OK to point out his defense is div II shitty now?
Raise your hand if you were one of the 15 dumbasses that did not see this one coming.
Got beat by our own damn offense too.

I still think AU will be at least an 8 win team this season, though. The defense just can't stay this shitakety the rest of the year. Sometimes when you have alot of kids who haven't lost before, losing that 1st game puts a bad taste in their mouth and they straighten up. Hopefully that is what happens here.
The bubble burst today. It's been coming for a while. It's too late now to fix it. The things we are doing poorly can't be fixed in a week. We're talking an entire philosophy change. And honestly? Unless there's a Malzahn-esque defensive guru out there that we can pay $1M or more to sign on, you're looking at a two-year project. I don't know who that guy is.
I wished it were the players. That can be fixed with good coaching even playing with subpar talent(which we are not). They simply don't know fundamental football and that's on the coaches. They can't tackle. They don't look back for the ball. They play too soft etc, etc.
Question:
Every time I turned around the announcers were saying freshman with the catch, sophomore turns it up etc.
If I read the depth chart correctly their offense had eight freshmen and sophomores on it.
So the "defense is full of sophomores" shitake doesn't fly when they are playing AGAINST freshman, does it? Or does it?
I'm not mad. I'm not upset. I'm not depressed. I'm just meh.
Defense has sucked ass for three years.
Played well against LSU last year. LSU had a shitakety offense.
Played well for a half against Bama (after Bama shitake all over itself in the first half and failed to go ahead 42-0, let's be honest).
Played well against Oregon last year. Put Oregon in the SEC and they're Ole Miss. Be real. Oregon last year would have struggled to score against eight of 12 SEC teams.
We're three years in. This is what we are. The worst defense in the history of Auburn football. We were able to overcome that last year.
But we shouldn't have to overcome it week after week. You give this team merely a middle of the pack defense, an average defense, a defense that chokes up 350 yards and 20 points a game and Auburn would win ten games. With a little luck, we could win them all again.
But we're not adequate. We're not average. And it's not a matter of talent. I look out there and see big, fast, strong kids. I see them out of place. I see them flying by tackles, diving, throwing shoulders and flailing. I see them turning their shoulders and opening lanes. I don't see the quarterback getting sacked. I don't see us causing turnovers.
We let a team that struggled to move the ball against Wofford gash us for 8,454 yards. We let a Mississippi State team that managed 18 inches in the second half against LSU run for 5,930.

BINGO! We can't fix it this year. It's going to take a new approach(and D staff) and an entire offseason to get this fixed. Our players don't play sound defensive football and that's coaching not talent.
BY THE WAY, MALZAHN STEPPING ON HIS OWN DICK TOO. WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH NOT RUNNING DYER TIL HIS TONGUE IS HANGING OUT? SERIOUSLY, IS DYER IN THE DOG HOUSE?
I made a comment to my brother while watching the game about why Dyer had not been getting any carries on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter. He told me that the coaches think he is a punk, has a bad attitude. Has anyone heard anything about that.

Something else to bitch about -
We were up 21-7. That's a two touchdown lead. That's a comfortable lead. That's a lead that makes you think if you play your cards just right, you can't lose.
But Roof decided to throw his cards in the air like confetti.
21-7. We've been there before. We were there last week. When we got there today, I told my friend, "Don't get too excited. Clemson will tie it up and then this one will go down to the wire."
Like usual. Like clockwork. Our defense shat the bed. Gave up 21 straight points. Started arm tackling. Started running slow. Started missing assignments. Started giving Clemson free yards.
This time it didn't go down to the wire. Clemson was all over us. Gus couldn't keep up. Maybe Gus is tired.
"Play football in a chaotic, organized manner," linebacker Sio Moore says
matter-of-factly.
...
"With coach Brown, there's no breaks. It's just light your hair on fire and go,"
Moore said Tuesday after the team's first practice in pads. "It's a 'solve your problems
with aggression' type defense. You run to the ball and you hit people in the mouth."
Prowler - I thought you supported Roof and just blamed the issues on youth.A lot of it is youth, but when you have a lot of youth on Defensive plays should be called that takes decisions out of their hands, also I'm not a fan of our CBs playing off the WRs 10 yards.

For everyone that doesn't think Youth and lack of playing experience all over the Defense isn't a huge part of the issue, then y'all need to get a clue...or just go to every message and maybe call into radio shows kicking and screaming, that'll defintely help.

Shit, their QB is a true frosh. Granted, that bastard might win a Heisman in a few years. But still. Auburn has more talent than Clemson.

But, as I said earlier, the Defensive playcalling should be adjusted...let that talent play. I 've said before, we have one too many shoulder bumpers.
My comments earlier were tongue in cheek due to last week when JR wanted to get rid of Roof, somebody came back with the "he keeps winning" comment. The defense under Roof has Ben shaky as he'll for 3 seasons now. I just can't see keeping this and praying for another Cam to carry us.
I said we shouldn't hang him because we kept winning. That leniency's over.
What irritates me more that shitty defensive play is the schism that immediately opens.
If you say the defense sucks and express unhappiness with the current trend there is a subset of our base that instantly
a) Says you're acting like a bammer
b) reminds you that we just won the NC
c) tells you to stay off the bandwagon you weren't wanted anyway
d) says you arent all in
e) says you're a bad fan
f) waves the Creed
g) makes excuses about youth (more freshmen and sophs on Clemson's offense than AU defense, BTW. Just as many on LSU's defense so...)
Damn.
My only problem with the Fire Ted Roof contingent and I'm not saying I don't agree is that he is not the only defensive coach we have on staff.

I wanted to start by comparing how this Auburn defense is performing relative to its previous nine incarnations. I figured a 10-year sample was enough to get a feel for what normal Auburn defense looks like.
Here are Auburn’s overall defensive numbers, as per-game averages, through three games:
2001: 60 plays, 236 yards, 17.3 ppg
2002: 68 plays, 312 yards, 10.0 ppg
2003: 61 plays, 262 yards, 15.7 ppg
2004: 63 plays, 273 yards, 7.7 ppg
2005: 63 plays, 246 yards, 8.7 ppg
2006: 60 plays, 249 yards, 5.7 ppg
2007: 71 plays, 283 yards, 19.3 ppg
2008: 67 plays, 214 yards, 5.0 ppg
2009: 70 plays, 350 yards, 22.3 ppg
2010: 78 plays, 340 yards, 21.3 ppg
2011: 91 plays, 534 yards, 36.7 ppg
