Panthers have interest in Carlos Rogers

The Panthers have spent plenty of money in the early days of free agency. And they could be spending some more.
Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette reports that the Panthers are interested in free-agent cornerback Carlos Rogers.
Rogers, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 draft, has spent his entire career with the Redskins. He expressed frustration in May regarding the perception that he’s the No. 2 corner, behind DeAngelo Hall.
In Carolina, Rogers would fill the void created when Richard Marshall took a one-year deal with the Cardinals.
-
I don't blame him a bit for getting ill. D-Hall is one of the most overrated and inconsistent corners in the NFL.
-
OK, now I'm just getting moist.
-
The Panthers have my attention for sure. These guys have made some serious moves. As I stated in another thread, besides all of the pro-Auburn guys, they have also signed Greg Olsen from the Bears.

I'm not gonna rank them my #1 team all of a sudden, but it is going to be hard NOT to root for them this year. Especially playing against the dirty birds (who I hate) twice a year.

fuc da birds in da mouf.
Thrice.

Thrice.
No need.
Historically, theyve been pretty good at doing that to themselves.

No, not #1 but they have made the moves to be taken seriously has contenders. I'm not saying they will be world beaters this season, but I do think they have reversed their misfortunes from last year. Right now I would say its gonna be the Panthers and Saints battling it out.

I bought a Panthers hat in April.
Get on board early, that's my plan.

Tampa Bay what??
Hello Carolina!

You serious, Clark?
The Panthers will be breaking in Cam Newton and trying to find an identity.
The Falcons are loaded. Extremely loaded. Especially if Julio comes through.
Saints and Falcons for the next few years. Unless Sean Payton leaves, and then it's all Atlanta in the NFC South.
-
Regardless, Carolina is now solidly my 1b favorite team to my Saints 1a. Wish they didn't play twice a year, but oh well.
I'm hoping what simp said is true for the foreseeable future.
-
Tampa Bay what??
Hello Carolina!
No shit! The Buccs are seriously piss'n me off. I mean instead of going out and getting some fire power, they sign a middle of the pack punter with a $19 mill/5 yr contract.

Anyone think Clausen starts the year and gives way to Newton during the season? I tend to lean that way because of the shortened off-season for rookies. Newton's a far superior athlete but he's got to have time to learn the offense. Mike Shula may not have been much as a college head coach but he's made solid players out of the quarterbacks he's coached in his career.
Speaking of which adding Greg Olsen was big for them. Apparently, the OC is a big fan of using the TEs.
-
... big fan of using the TEs.
VV and Awk are big fans of tight ends as well.

I'm very serious. Yes, I will admit they're current quest for Auburn guys blurs my view just a wee bit but even without my glasses on I can see that their off-season acquisitions will totally change their direction starting this year. I think they already knew what they wanted their identity to be and have made the moves to get them there. Falcons do have a pretty damn good team, I'll give you that. I have come leaps and bounds from how I use to feel about the Falcons.
For the record, I certainly think Cam will start over Jimmy right away.
VV and Awk are big fans of tight ends as well.
And WR's.

My fantasy selection committee wants this question answered ASAP as well.

I hear that. Need to get one, being I only live just over an hour away from Charlotte. Been fun seeing all the local reports on Cam. He's getting to be a bigger thing here everyday. I'm only 20 mins from their camp. Hoping to go check out a practice maybe soon.

It's not a rumor at this point. However, word is that it's more as a veteran back-up to either Cam or Clausen. That's they only thing that's keeping it slow... Not sure if he's going to like hearing that he's almost guaranteed to be a back-up coming in.

I'm thinking maybe 6 wins for Carolina.
Tampa Bay went catatonic after the draft.
Atlanta got Julio yes...but more importantly, they got Jacquiz Rogers which gives them a pass option out of the backfield which is part of the reason they fell short because Turner is purely a runner and they could only go vertical with their receivers. Ryan has all the tools he needs now.
It's Falcons and Saints for now. The Buc players have to be up in arms.
-
Well, at least we got a Newton.
Cecil Jr. to the Saints.

Cam Newton’s brother joins the Saints
Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2011, 8:14 PM EDT
With the UFL circling the drain, it appears that the league has given its players the ability to abandon their contracts.
That’s the obvious implication of the news that center Cecil Newton, older brother of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, has signed with the Saints.
And so both Newtons will be in the NFC South this year. Assuming that Cecil Newton will stick on the Saints’ 53-man roster.
The elder Newton previously played for the Jaguars. He was on the active roster for two games in 2010, but he did not play.
-
No way they win more than 2 games with selfish assholes like this on the team.

Also, some runs of Cam's rookie card left off Auburn.
Clear sign the hammer is coming down and Auburn is already being erased from history like Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future.

not sure who does the research for Topps but they really need to be French shamboed.
I mean I didn't want him to throw any interceptions all season but it did happen.
-
Look at the top of the card.
"College: Auburn"
Just a printing mistake on the 2010 season.
Also a sign of the hammer is the fact that Newton wouldn't sign Auburn gear at a Carolina Panthers autograph event. Never mind the fact that his contract stipulates that he can only sign Carolina Panther merchandise at Carolina Panthers autograph events.
-
This make the card an "error" card, giving it even more value. Depending on how many have been printed like this, the hardcore traders will pay top dollar for it.

Rivera is impressed:
Ron Rivera had a one-word response when asked for his early impressions of Cam Newton.
"Wow," Rivera said.
The Panthers have only had two padded practices at training camp. And Newton still is working with the second team behind Jimmy Clausen.
But the No. 1 overall pick clearly has out-performed Clausen in Newton's first NFL training camp.
"I mean, he does some things that really light you up and get you excited -- as Jimmy did," Rivera said today. "Jimmy made some good throws and some good decisions. But when you look at what Cam does, some of those things. His running ability is special. That's one of the things he brings to the table."

Finebaum caller started the show off bringing this up.
He was dead serious when he asked if "they" knew something they couldn't tell us yet.
Yep. You cracked the code.
Because even if they decide that Auburn was going to have to vacate the season, they would leak this information to Topps so that they could make sure to incorrectly list his 2010 Auburn stats as 2010 Florida stats. Cause that's how that works. All stats just go to the last D1 school the kid played for.
The worst part about it?
Rather than laugh this guy off the air, Paul's only response: "Wow, that would be pretty amazing, wouldn't it."
-
The FBI leaked that to Topps months ago. Old news.

That's what a caller on Finebaum said. Finebaum thanked him for the correction without looking into it any further, as is par for the course. One idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about correcting another idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about, and the idiot host not fact checking the shit his callers say whatsoever.
It's clearly an error in the card. Auburn is listed as his college, they just accidentally said his 2010 season took place at Auburn, which was obviously a mistake.
...or evidence of the hammer.
