Title: TigersX Roll Call....
Post by: The Prowler on April 28, 2011, 01:13:05 AM
Due to the Devastating Tornados, I think a roll call is in order and/or any information.

I'm here. I was in Cottondale when it came through Tuscaloosa.  I'll be going to Tuscaloosa to help out anyway I can.  McCalla, near Exit 1 off Hwy 459 has power. Not much damage except for some trees.

No tornados down here near Auburn/Opelika. Just a lot of wind and rain. Thoughts go out to the folks in Tuscaloosa today. This is one of those things that snaps us all back into reality when we get a little too worked up over football.

For real. Prayers up for all those that have lost family or friends. T-town looks to have really got the brunt of it but with 105+ tornadoes in our state alone, there is a lot of anguish throughout. God be with you folks seriously.

I heard there is now a "Toomers for Tuscaloosa". Much much much much worse event of course, but I am glad to see our family return the favor.

I'm alive. Downtown Pell City received a lot of damage and we had 1 person killed. All this happened about 3 miles from my place.

The big one tracked along Shoal Creek valley, about 6 miles or so due north of me. They had extensive damage and numerous fatalities.

I'm here, but just 5-6 miles south of me, my brother and sister in law lost their house in Fultondale.  Been wielding a chainsaw and cleaning up for the last couple of days.

Here's the paths of Tornados on April 27th, 2011 (I don't know about the record books of tornado touch downs for one day, but 04-27-11 smashed whatever the record previously was, also the number of F4s or greater was set, as well as the distance of the F5 that went from Mississippi to Georgia  tearing up everything in it's path.)

We're OK, we came to Birmingham to get to some power.  The long tornado track in the above map that went over Madison-Huntsville ended up passing directly over our house, but no damage.  We're protected from the west by a 1500ft hill that seems to deflect the worst off the wind around us (most of the damage around me was from straight line winds).

I haven't heard from any weathermen about this upcoming week, but it's looking like Monday or Tuesday we're going to have more storms.  It's supposed to reach up into the 80s on Monday, then another cold front is coming back down.

Yeah my home is situated between the Hanceville/Cullman track that came through earlier in the day and the Fultondale via Tuscaloosa that evening. We only lost power for 2 days and little more but my work took me to see some of the devastation just inTuscaloosa.
Numerous smaller communities were leveled or heavily damaged over a much broader area.
The accounts from witnesses touch all emotions, the loss of life is tragic and survivors were found as late as yesterday buried under rubble. My heart goes out to those that lost loved ones and so many left homeless and hope they receive quick relief.
We can always anticipate the storms every few days but it would be great to get a pass on the next wave.

I don't think anybody has talked much about Phil Campbell, but I understand that place we virtually leveled.

I read a up to 26 deaths there but that was only a day afterwards.
Rainsville is another severe area... just so many incl. Cullman, Hanceville, Hackleburg, Dadeville, Pratt City (B'ham) and many, many more.
I've grown guilty of treating the relentless, repetitive warnings during the season far too lightly. Was just a young teen in a very close call in '74 but of course mother nature doesn't spook kids. This was a real eye opener.

Alabama has been declared a Category One Disaster, same as Katrina and 9-11.
