Some are reporting Mike Pelton has Auburns new DL coach.

Auburn: FootballScoop has learned that UL-Lafayette defensive line coach Mike Pelton has accepted the defensive line job at Auburn.  Pelton coached the defensive line at Vanderbilt last season before joining Mark Hudspeth's staff at ULL.

And also, here is a bio.

Wait, so he was Vandy's DE coach last football season (hired March 2010, despite what that UL-L bio says), and then was hired less than two months ago to UL-L to be a DL coach?

So basically he was only at UL-L for less than two months before leaving again? And why go from an SEC school, even if it is Vandy, to UL-L for essentially a lateral move in title?

His bio confuses me.

However, he did play at Auburn, and did work with Chizik at Iowa State, so he's got that going for him.

Keeping it in the family.  Not a splashy hire, but seems to be a solid choice.

I believe he went to Vandy in 2010, but was replaced when the new coaches took over, and got on at ULaLa.

I'm not sure where he was in 2009.

Yeah, it confuse me a little bit too but I think Jarhead was able make sense of it.

I agree its not a splashy hire but I too like the fact that he is from Auburn and he has coached under Chizik.

Hudspeth was with him at Troy I believe, and the situation at Vandy last season was fluid to say the least with their coarch quitting between Spring and Fall camps.  I wouldn't read as much into that as it may appear.

I liked Coach Pelton when he was at Troy. He was DE coach when I was there and produced two decent NFL players in Demarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora. He's a good hire.

I really like the hire.  He has a ringing endorsement from Larry Blakeney, that's enough for me.

They are referring to the fact that he is the one that gave Eric Ramsey the money to feed his starving chirren.

I remember Pelton, but don't know much about his coaching style.  Coaching DTs aint rocket surgery.  Its a lot about getting effort iut of your players.  If Blakeny likes him thats ok by me.

The "...Cuz" response that preceeded mine reminded me of Shane from a few weeks back. That's their Auburn mantra from the Dye era.

DL Coaching playbook:

1.  get big mean assed dude in 3 point stance
2.  tell big assed dude the guy with the ball called his momma a whore
3.  tell big assed mean dude to go get the dude that talked bad about momma

Speaking of which, many moons ago in the Dye era, Auburn traveled to NC to play the Tarheels.  The article in the paper on Sunday interviewed some NC players who talked about how dirty AU's linemen were.  They said we came up to the line and they were calling us Naggers.

It's dirty down in the trenches.

If there's anything I hate worse than tarheels, it is naggers.

That was the year FSU made us their bitch in Auburn and we kicked for the tie against Syracuse. '87 I think?

Pelt was at Troy when I was there and he worked under Rock. He is a good coach and he is a good addition to the staff. He is easier to talk to than Rock and players like playing for him. I think he took over the line after Rock left for for Cincy. Iwannaplay when were you are at Troy?

I don't think that would be a smart thing to do. Its like asking a Vietnam War Vet to explain what he thought about war. Shit can get ugly.
