Title: Father of The Family gone...
Post by: Kaos on February 11, 2011, 06:52:13 PM
Chuck Tanner dead at 81.

Loved the We Are Family Pirates that he managed in 1979.  Willie Stargell, Bill Madlock, Dave Parker, Tekulve and Blyleven (who is still pitching, right?)

Fun bunch.  Swept the mighty Reds and then went seven games with the Earl Weaver Orioles.  Great series, two great managers.

I'm a sap for the glory days.

My wife's uncle was a pitcher on those teams.  Frank Brosseau was on the 71 team that won it all.  Although I think that years team was managed by someone else.

Love the Blue Uniform braves days when Tanner was there. Murphy, Horner - all the good uns. They were terrible, but I loved em.
