Brenton Williams (DL) on the way off the Plains...
-
Who?
-
Who?
Exactly.
Hate to lose bodies on the line, but I would hope this portends a target or two for replacement.
-
Give us a bonafied end and another biggun' in the middle.
-
DE out of Opelika. Had a couple of big plays in the Spring game. Good looking athlete, but they brought in a bunch of young studs at that position.
-
Portal question. I heard a guest on Finebaum yesterday discussing potential transfers within the conference, and saying they would have to sit out a year if they went from one SEC team to another. Apparently, I missed the memo on that, but a quick Googlization showed that any transfer after February 1st would have to sit out a year. Again, only SEC to SEC.
That's a pretty big deal considering how many players we've gotten recently from other SEC schools, and how a bunch of our guys have landed elsewhere in the conference.
On a basketball note, the rumor is Aden Holloway could be wearing a dark pink jersey soon. Does that rule apply to basketball as well? I couldn't see anyone transferring to sit for a year.
-
Think all sitting out will be shelved. It's a competitive disadvantage now.
Also losing:
JD Rhym and some long snapper
-
Secrets out, we need DL.
-

JD Rhym and some long snapper
First one has no affect. The second could be devastating.
-
Why would basketball portal have the same cutoff date as football?
-
Also why would a kid of just better than average talent transfer to a third school where you are in new surroundings with new coaches, teammates, terminology and new depth chart? Seems very antiproductive.
-
Secrets out, we need DL.
We surely do. I don't think out secondary and LBs can hold up without solid two deep interior and legit pressure from the edge.
Could care less about Freeze wanting more wide receivers.

Thank you for this, General. This has always bothered me. Now, Jmar could have meant that he could care less but we are pretty sure that he intended to convey that he could not.
So, why the fuck say that one could?
Jmar should have a grasp on this at this point. I still appreciate you Jmar but do better.

Both are correct, but his is truncated:
I could care less, but I'd have to try.

Jay Fair leaving.

Jay Fair leaving.
Slightly disappointed but not devastated.

Landed a top D-Lineman today in Blidi.
Hopefully we will get at least one more.
Only others I’ve heard we are after are the WR from Penn St, the Edge from Arkansas State, and I remember hearing about us seeking a running back (wondering which one is about to leave), but can’t remember which one.
I was surprised by the departure of Jay Fair. If he’s gone, it makes me think Burton and Moore will soon follow.

To be fair (no pun intended), he was only a starter because the room was pretty bad. Burton showed some promise. But again compared with what’s coming in…
So at this point we are losing experienced backups. It’s sad that it reached this point.
-
Fair had 31 catches, which surprised me, for 324 yards and 2 TD's. I thought they could have used him better, like going back to that drag route he scored on against Cal. But, there was a shit ton of stuff they could have done better on offense last season.
But, this isn't unexpected when you consider they now have Robert Lewis, Sam Jackson and Bryce Cain on the roster, with speedster, Malcolm Simmons, coming in.
-
Snagged Raikes. That's a nice pickup on the DL.

Burton had success with that same route.

He talks pretty but he looks like he belongs on a termite team, honestly.
His posting has gone WAAAAY down. Regardless how any of you feel about him on a personal level, many guys in prison would welcome him as a cellie.
-
They don't play. He's already scrubbed from the official roster.
I hate losing his size and experience. I wouldn't be surprised now to see them look for another LB from the portal. Currently, the group at linebacker consists of:
Austin Keys
Eugene Asante
Dorian Mausi
Demarcus Riddick
Joe Phillips - Buck
DJ Barber
Jalen McLeod - Buck
Robert Woodyard
Jamonta Waller - Buck
I don't know if you qualify a couple of the Buck players as linebackers. I know McLeod basically stands up and looks more like a true outside backer.

Looking much better for sure.
I get this gut feeling we can average scoring in the low to mid thirties only I'm more concerned with holding a lead and our defense being able to get off the field.
It's not like we have Jayden Daniels plus I'm not sold on Freeze's willingness to run the damn ball.
-
We averaged right at 190 yards per game rushing and 162 passing in 2023. 26 ppg. I think our line will be much improved this season, and I still hold that Freeze was not really involved in the offense. He will be this season, and the play calling should pick up. It really comes down to Thorne. He had so many nothing games.

Hell, I could go out there and throw for less than 100 yards a game for a stretch of the season. He best do something worth a crap, and if he doesn’t, Hugh better make a change quick. Tired of stubborn ass head coaches at Auburn that let their egos get in the way of adapting for the good of the team & season. Gus & Harvest were too stubborn to do what was best for Auburn in a variety of ways.

I'm enthusiastic about the prospects for a better season too. I'm just sitting at 7 wins in my mind trying to find number 8.
And this is born mostly from the NMSt and Maryland games. I think our offense will be much better from a talent perspective but our defense was just as bad on those two days even though statistically we were fourth in the SEC in mid November maybe under Roberts.
The TAMU game immediately pops into my thoughts with any mention of 2023;
not the two wtf games above or even the endzone gift for Milroe.
We are banking on having a prolific offense.
So I ask the question that should be at the fore of every dyed in the wool Auburn fan.
What can Durkin do for you?

If the 3 DL additions make the 2 deep, it’s a bigger addition than most any new QB could bring. We really needed some added depth in that room.
Another LB would have been nice and maybe a big bodied WR but overall, we get an A for the portal, imo.

Losing the 2 DB’s? Always concerning when losing talent but it’s a deep room. I assume that’s why hat you’re referring to as I haven’t seen anything else.
Are Hood and the other kid officially gone?

Who the hell knows?
I'm no expert but it would seem that staff has to be ever on the prowl devoting valuable time replacing disgruntled kids. You lose two dbs off of specialty teams around the cutoff and it suddenly becomes a problem if you are already thin, whatever the position.

The sad part about these guys is Hood was to be figured in the rotation next season. Scott was a redshirt that did not see any time last season. Both RS freshman that did not seem to give their career at AU a decent chance. Maybe they saw writing the rest of us did not see. You would think they would at least give it one season AFTER the redshirt to be sure.
-
It certainly wouldn't hurt to pick up an experienced DB from the port hole. I think our first group can be really good. After that, there's not a ton of experience. The Room:
Keionte Scott: Plenty of experience and shitcherpants fast
Jerrin Thompson: Transfer from Texas where he was a starter. MVP of the Spring Game
Laquan Robinson: 1st Team All MACCC in JUCO
Kayin Lee: Played in every game and had 20 tackles
Terrance Love: In the rotation in 2023
Antonio Kite: Transfer from Turdville. Back up DB there
Kaleb Harris
JC Hart
Rod Elston
Griffin Speaks: Played a good bit early in the season last year.
Sylvester Smith
Caleb Wooden: Played in 12 games last season. 15 tackles and an interception in the Music City Bowl
So yeah, it wouldn't hurt to grab one more.
-
BTW, we have 4 more DB's coming in who didn't enroll early. Possible to find a gem in that group.

One's value won't increase by redshirting. Better to come from a smaller program and get overhyped beyond one's ability.

They need to create a special drill for Wooden. When he gets an INT, he immediately flips the ball to another DB. I have never seen a DB go as slow with a ball in his hands as this guy. It was scary to watch. Dude looks like he has cement blocks for feet.how can a guy be fast enough to play DB, but can’t run straight ahead with a ball in his hands!

Speaking of port holes, just saw that Bama's center, James Brockermeyer, jumped in. Not that I care, but I had to read some comments. Sure enough.....
"He was losing the competition"
"I'm glad. He didn't show Bama nothing."
"He wasn't any good in the Spring game"
"The center that came with Debuwer from Washington was beatin' him out." (BTW, the center that came from Washington hasn't practiced yet.)
"Good riddance. Maybe Ohio State wants him".
Fans are fricked up.

Thats my guess. At least one DB. That room is loaded with young talent so adding a guy with some pt makes sense. Many talking heads think there are still a few likely to transfer out, so there is that.

Their take this morning. Lambert-Smith only had 2 catches in his last 4 games. Something was wrong there. Maybe he's the problem. I guess we'll find out.
Alabama center, Brockemeyer, leaving. There's a ton of centers in the portal and every one of them would walk barefoot over hot coals to play for the Tide.

All indications are that they're getting pretty razor thin in the O-line room at the Crapstoned. They had a center transfer from Warshington with Deebur, but he's out for "non-football related issues". If it were still Lord Saybinz, there are no non-football related issues.

Yeah just his comments about bringing in this veteran presence for all of this young talent just makes me suspicious...
...because that's not what selfish all about me receivers generally have in mind.
Only a month ago Lambert- Smith is listed as PSU's #1 on the depth chart at slot receiver. He has NFL QB prospect Drew Alar as his battery mate. Why would he leave the comforts of that situation for a program trying to re-find its footing?
This just doesn't make sense and losing Elba RB Alvin Henderson only a couple of weeks ago to PSU just doesn't figure into this equation.
