McCants in better days.

The legal problems won't cease for one of the best linebackers in Alabama football history. Keith McCants, a Crimson Tide star in the late 1980s who played in the NFL, was arrested in Prichard on Friday night and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and loitering, all misdemeanor offenses. He remained in jail Saturday night on $1,500 bail.

Details can be found here on the Press-Register's breaking news blog.

Per the story ...
Prichard police subdued Alabama great Keith McCants with a Taser gun and arrested him Friday evening after undercover officers saw him panhandling in the company of two apparent prostitutes flagging down drivers along U.S. 45, authorities said.

Police shot McCants with the Taser gun, debilitating him with volts of electricity, after he threw a pair of pliers, a screwdriver and a crack pipe at an officer, nearly hitting him in the head, authorities said.

McCants, 39, was arrested in February for drug-related charges in Mobile and served several days in jail earlier this month for driving without insurance. His legal troubles since leaving the NFL have included a charge of cocaine possession, a bad-check writing spree and a charge of theft of property.
Tradition.

He's had a rough month.

On February 25, 2008, McCants was arrested on a charge of "loitering for the purpose of drug activity and possession of drug paraphernalia". He was released after posting bond.

In March 2008, McCants began serving a 10-day sentence in Chickasaw, Alabama resulting from a November 29, 2007 arrest for driving without insurance. McCants agreed to serve time rather than pay the $610.00 fine.

“I’m innocent”  McCants said.  “I aint never done nothing wrong to no man”.  McCants contended that he was walking along 45, minding his own business, and that he was arrested for, in his words, “just bein next to them ho’s”.  “Walkin by a ho aint no high crime”, noted McCants.

Honestly, this is sad. He had so much, and let it all slip away. There are people that would give anything to have been in his place, but he let's himself go. I feel really bad for him, and I wish him well in life, but in a way it's hard to feel overly sorry for someone that never learns from their mistakes.
