With Spring Football over, with our baseball team asking the 2012 football team to hold their beer, and with our basketball team losing to Yale… I’ve been thinking of movies that stick out as funniest to me in my lifetime. The kinds that have given me core memories in my growing up years. The actors that played in ‘em are legends in their own right, so the list will be broken down by actor. Feel free to add your own:
Adam Sandler
1. Ridiculous 6 - I grew up on Westerns, and love slapstick comedy. This combines the 2 in a pretty hilarious way. This one is new compared to the rest, but made my eyes water a time or 2.
2. Waterboy- another combination of slapstick with something I have loved all my life, Football. Win-win.
3. Grandma’s Boy - He’s not in it, but produced it. To some, I’m sure that’s a bonus. Stoner comedy has its place.
4. Joe Dirt - Not in it again, but produced it. I’ve seen and quoted this movie more than any other in my lifetime. “Yeah man, you like to see homos naked.. That’s cool.”
Will Ferrell
1. Anchorman 2 - you might say, “Wait just a minute, Snake. What about the first one?!” To which I say “Fuck the first one!”….. the 2nd one is his best stuff. Mrs. Buttersworth scene is top tier.
2. Talladega Nights - a satirical take on NASCAR culture and turning the volume all the way up on it. We all know some NASCAR fans in our lives and have questioned… “Why?”
3. The Other Guys - this one is more nostalgic for me. Came out shortly after I landed at my first duty station. Another one that’s easy to quote.
Jim Carrey
1. Dumb and Dumber - I feel like this is a universally loved movie. “You sold my dead bird to a blind kid?”
2. Ace Ventura - this will further show my age, but was a childhood favorite. Talking out of one’s ass is revolutionary.
3. Me, Myself, and Irene - this one is underrated. Very crude humor, not politically correct, and an original idea. Big fan.
Other Honorable Movie Mentions
1. Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
2. Walk Hard
3. The Hangover
4. Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
5. Along Came Polly
6. Dodgeball
7. Wedding Crashers
8. Pineapple Express
9. Your Highness
10. The Wrong Missy
I could go on and on, but won’t. Feel free to put yours down.

Adam Sandler’s Just Go With It, is comedy gold.
-
Sandler, Ferrell, and Carey are the least funny people who ever existed.
Elf is the only good movie any of them have ever made. The collective remainder is a gigantic unwatchable turd pile.
Where is Stripes? Where is Raising Arizona? Where is Trading Places or Beverly Hills Cop? Where is Ferris? Where is Porky’s?
Let’s Be Cops is better than any of what was listed, honestly. So is A Million Ways to Die in the West.

While I have had my reservations about Sandler, he always seems to be on everyone’s list and seems to be considered a comedic genius. Right there with the likes of Ferrell and Carrey.
It is subjective. I have a hard time separating Ferrell’s support of Beto and some of the stances he’s taken re social issues.
Does this not bother you at all, Snake? It kind of makes him less funny to me.
It’s difficult to find a guy funny when you genuinely do not like him. Take Snags for example.

These all have their place. Maybe just a bit further down the list for me!

I don’t listen to Hollyweird people on political or social issues.

I’m not sure that Kaos completely agrees with your assessment. I am reading between the lines and I think he may have reservations. Maybe he’s afraid to voice his concerns for fear of creating conflict.

I weep for the future.

I think Ferelll has more range than Sandler and Carey has more range than Ferrell but....Adam Sandler list with no Happy Gilmore?? By the way.....a Happy 2 is in the works. Say it aint so. Happy, I make you breffast!
Elf should be on Ferell's list. "You're not Santa!". Also, his cameo (if we want to call it that) in Wedding Crashers always has me rolling - MA! More meatloaf. Jackie Moon is silly but I like it. His stints as Alex Trabek and GW Bush on SNL were good to me. I know Stepbrothers and Old School are silly as hell but the one liners in them (his funeral rendition of Dust in the Wind especially) always have me rolling.
Carey actually had depth to his acting and did some decent non funny movies. Man on the Moon, Majestic, Truman Show

If you haven’t seen Uncut Gems with Sandler, check it out. That movie gave me anxiety, but was a good one. Sandler showed some range.

Uncut Gems - a movie NOT about Snags.

Agree about Carey’s acting ability. Man on the Moon proved it to me.

If you rank ANYTHING with Adam Sandler above Stripes, any John Hughes movie, or even Cheech and Chong Nice Dreams? I have discernment questions.
There’s a theory (one I happen to believe) that Sandler purposely makes the worst movies he can just to see how stupid people are. Then he laughs all the way to the bank.

I think Ive told you this before but this is exactly the approach I take when watching all of these movies. I do not take them serious. I treat them as a fun ride. Makes things easier....Not remotely in the same quality stratosphere as a John Hughes movie.

But how many times can a person stick his jaw forward and mealy mouth mumble in almost baby talk and one consider it a "fun ride."
The answer is zero to me.

What’s your list? Very curious what kind of humor resides within The Nook.

Welp... Another topic I'm going to bow out of.
Sandler = Freeze.
I'm done.
-
Blazing Saddles
O’ Brother Where Art Thou
Young Frankenstein
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Old School
Night Shift
Duplicity
The list could go on and on over the trash already listed.
Liar, Liar
Major League
Groundhog Day
Ghostbusters
Bachelor Party
The Hangover
Forty Year Old Virgin
Bruce Almighty
Uncle Buck
The Great Outdoors
Vacation (any of them)
Fletch (any of them)
Foul Play
Overboard
Some of those are suspect but fuck, you all need to broaden those horizons.

I remember one movie from my childhood that introduced me to Batman before he was Batman.
Gung Ho.

pretty much everything pale rider listed (well most but can't overlook his disclaimer) + my movie reference in my first reply.
but movies that are memorable, a significant mark in my life include...
the gods must be crazy, modern problems, stripes, dc cab, beetle juice and the toy.

The Gods Must Be Crazy... I’m envisioning a coke bottle falling from the sky and maybe rhinos stomping fires out if I’m remembering correctly? Has been over 20 years since I’ve watched it. I remember it being funny though.

Keaton is an exceptional talent.

Keaton is an exceptional talent.
Drop back to Night Shift then.
Keaton, Fonz, and a still really cute Shelly Long. Also a blink and you miss it first screen appearance from Kevin Costner.

I can’t believe you have conceded on Sandler and McDonald so quickly. Why the change of heart re their talent?

What if we mix the mayo and the tuna in the can? Wait! What if we feed the tuna mayo?
Call Starkist.
Possibly the greatest 30 seconds of film ever.
-
Another worthy mention is Mike Myers. Austin Powers, Wayne’s World, The Love Guru. Core memories in the movie category for Snake.
One of the funniest scenes of all time to me is in the first Austin Powers movie, trying to make a u-turn in the golf cart in a narrow hallway. Good old-fashioned, slapstick comedy.

Have you ever seen “So I Married An Ax Murderer”? Very underrated.
