Title: Another Political Ad from Alabama
Post by: Tarheel on June 14, 2010, 05:49:40 PM
It's not Tim James, thankfully, it's a political ad for Rick Barber who I gathered is in a runoff election in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.  I have to admit that I like this ad.  Whoever did it needs to be working for the RNC.

I'm sure The ONE and his minions will consider it treasonous, racist, bigoted hate speech.

This doesn't bother me nearly like the Tim James and Dale Peterson ads did. I'm on board with this message. And he doesn't sound like an uneducated hick delivering it, either.

good ad.

He hits a good point: Progressive tax.  Which is technically unconstitutional since it is a direct apportioned tax which was a big NO NO. But a dumbass in 1913 decided it would be a good idea to open the floodgates and essentially remove these restrictions on taxes under the 16th Amendment.

Interesting.  I think that the message and delivery of this political ad resonates with libertarians, conservatives, and moderates but especially with small business owners.  It does have a gun in it (flintlock pistol) but as you imply it does not come across as hayseed or provincial.

By the way, Kieth Olbermann opined that Rick Barber should be arrested for treason because of this ad...

Typical leftist tactic. One of Saul Alinksy's rules in Rules for Radicals pretty much shows the blueprint to shutting up the opposition.

I think that's in the Democrat Political Rulebook too...if you can't argue against the message then discredit the messenger.

America is asleep at the wheel and doesn't even know it.

"We cannot expect Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism."
-Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under
the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist
program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without
knowing how it happened."

-Norman Thomas, 1948

Nefarious Incrementalism.

With the Tea-Party Movement we are waking up though we've been asleep way too long.

Two things:

The Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution:

Quote
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Also, the Colonies revolted due to Taxation without Representation.  We have "representation" in the United States via the U.S. Congress and the President.  The Tea Tax was just the one millionth straw that broke the camel's back.  Saying they revolted because of a single tea tax is not factually correct and is almost the opposite of generalization.

I'm just saying, not saying I necessarily disagree with the stance.  I just feel it could have been presented better, but I see what he is doing...

Good critique.

What this government needs is a spending and tax reform high colonic.

This guy was defeated last night by the establishment candidate out of Montgomery. Very sad. I will post a results thread in the SGA soon with all pertinent races and outcomes.

That's very disappointing.  I hope that you guys hold the winning nominee's feet to the fire when it comes to the serious issues.
