Title: Kissinger Dies - Again
Post by: Kaos on November 30, 2023, 11:40:50 AM
I honestly thought this guy died like 40 years ago.

Henry Kissinger, Secretary of State under Nixon, died yesterday at 100.  He had a funny accent.

Fuck that and fuck him.

Curious why the hate.

I didn't really pay much attention to him after the Nixon years.  I really thought he'd died like late 80s, early 90s.  My grandfather - who was a yellow dog democrat - grudgingly seemed to respect him back in the 70s and he would never back a republican for any office whatsoever. Not even dog catcher.

I don't really have any opinion of him at all. He was gone from the national stage before KISS even really got started.  And they've been around forever.

There could be a book here. And Wes and myself may have different reasons but my biggest beefs with the guy are a lot of the policy and worldviews he shaped from a US perspective.

The One World Govt view he had with the CFR, and the normalizing with communist China in way too sympathetic of a manner regardless of motive.

Then on the side the unadulterated carpet bombing - ironically under detente policy - in Vietnam and even moreso in Cambodia.

Again, this reply could be pages long though. Those are just my highlights. Think Dick Cheney + John McCain on steroids.

Yes, all of that, plus his involvement in Chile.  And his most egregious private-citizen work with Union Carbide in getting their Bhopal plant established and then brokering the settlement when the plant poisoned half a million people.

Fuck.  That.  Guy.

Don't get me wrong - guy was highly intelligent. But he had a worldview I can't get behind. Nixon was rumored to have only been as close to him as he was because he trusted very few people to not stab him in the back (and he was somewhat right there - Nixon's paranoia is infamous) - and Kissinger was one of those few.

I support carpet bombing.

I do not the way it was done in Cambodia. 1000's of innocent people met their demise and it helped usher in the Khmer Rouge, and the subsequent refugee exodus. No good came from it.

Many of our servicemen over there (now in their 70s) can probably confirm. Frequent R&R in that "area".
