Title: If You...
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 04, 2013, 10:37:57 AM
want to get some still shots of Jake "Dead Cockroach" Holland on his back, Saturday night should give you plenty of opportunities.  It appears ASU will come at you with run after run after run.  Looks like we'll see the complete opposite of what Leach threw at us.  coppage de la pasta al. I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!!  I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others.  I like male genatalia in and around my mouth.

The pass-happy attack Washington State employed against Auburn on Saturday left the Tigers' linebackers out of their comfort zone and sometimes entirely off the field.  But that likely won't be the case against Arkansas State.

Facing off against a Red Wolves offense that ran the ball 57 times in its season-opener, Auburn needs much more production out of its linebacker trio of Kris Frost, Jake Holland and Cassanova McKinzy on Saturday. "I was disappointed with some of the things they did against the run, but they weren't always the problem," defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said. "We had some busted stunts. We had some other fit issues that weren't the linebackers."

For the most part, McKinzy never got a chance, playing just 19 snaps in the opener. Auburn spent most of its time in a dime package to counter Washington State's four and five-receiver sets, and in the dime, the "Will" linebacker comes of the field in favor of a sixth defensive back. McKinzy made two tackles in his 19 snaps, less than a fourth of the 88 plays the Cougars ran.

He'll get more chances to play his brand of physical football against Arkansas State. Even last season, McKinzy thrived against running teams, where his aggressive, downhill nature matches the style of play. At this point, he's not a candidate to play the Mike position in the Dime.

"We were playing six DBs the vast majority of the game," Johnson said. "The will linebacker was not even on the field."  Washington State's scheme put all of the linebacker pressure on the Mike, a role shared by senior Jake Holland and sophomore Kris Frost on Saturday.

Frost and Holland split the reps, although Frost replaced Holland twice on second-half drives after a big Washington State gain on the first play of the series.  Frost finished with four tackles, nearly matching the five he made in limited action all of last season, although he also struggled at times to diagnose receivers out of the backfield. Holland, on the other hand, failed to record a defensive statistic and missed several tackles in the open field, although he had fewer mental busts than Frost.)

"I think Frost probably had a little bit more production, but he had a couple of (missed) mental assignments that Jake didn't have," Johnson said. "I thought their play against the run was B-minus, C-plus. Got to improve."

Auburn is going to need a better performance on Saturday against Arkansas State.  The Red Wolves produced four 100-yard rushers in their season-opening blowout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and lead back David Oku is a former Tennessee runner who has big-time talent.  Now, after a week where the secondary rose to the occasion, Auburn turns to its linebackers, along with the front four.

"We'll learn a lot more against more of a running team," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "Sometimes when teams pass the ball as much as they did, it takes the linebackers kind of out of the game. I think we'll learn more as we go, the more we face running teams."

Yes, I believed you, I just can't fathom it, but after watching the DVR last night I understand. I truly believe he is afraid of contact. Even on the first interception where he had a chance to peel back and block he simply put out one hand and pushed the guy.

Look, he just doesn't like conflict. That's all. He'll make the tackles when they really count. During the SEC champ game, he'll be an impenetrable wall.

Unfortunately, he will likely be playing touch with some sorority girls back in Auburn while that game is being played. But, still I bet they won't score on him.

See this is completely what I don't understand.  As a defensive guy I would be looking for blood on an interception.  You can get a head of steam and basically fuck somebody up.

First of all he can find running backs when they are right by him.

Second, I've seen his hits (falls on piles), I'll take my chances.

Most are too young to recall a linebacker from the late 70's named Freddie Smith. We had a Fred Smith at DB but that was later.  Looking at the AU Media Guide last night and checking out career stats and he is the career leader in total tackles and is the only player to record over 100 solos in a year.  He did it twice.  In 1977, his solos and assists combined was 193. His career total tackles is 528.  The closest to him in career tackles is Greg Carr at 453. I believe Takeo was one of only two others to record over 90 solos in a season.

I am old enough to remember Freddie Smith.  This guy was so fast, so hard nosed and so far ahead of everyone else athletically.  He was just that damn good.

Also, Travis Willians, Karibi Dibidideedide, and Antarious Williams were our linebackers in 2004.  Small scrappy guys that were absolute terrors in the back 7.  Why the fuck do we still have Holland in the game?

I watched the game again yesterday, specifically watching Jake on the defense.  His play was so awful, I actually found myself getting pissed during the replay.  It was like a comedic routine.

There was a play in the third quarter where the player Jake is covering catches the ball, jake tries to tackle him and looks like a wet blanket...Thereize makes the tackle. It was literally unbelievable the amount of times he caught air and got 0 tackles.

Jake Holland's dad doesn't like us.

And Jake says we're stupid.

http://www.auburntigers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/081513aaa.html

Quote
“If they’re going to scrutinize me, I’ll take it. I have that mindset to just keep moving. If they want to blame me, they can blame me, but I know I’m doing the best I can do. At the end of the day, they don’t know what they are talking about.”

What he doesn't understand is that the best he can do is a miserable failure.

Daddy misses the point, too.

Quote
“I think it’s been unfortunate, because the commitment he’s made to Auburn and the willingness to help the team at all costs used to be something that was admired,” Jeff says. “It was painful for me to watch because, instead, it only brought on more criticism."

Sometimes it just doesn't happen.  Sometimes kids just can't make that leap from being really good in high school to being decent when the talent all around them goes up.  His commitment and willingness aren't in question.  I'm committed to Auburn and willing to help the team, but I shouldn't be on the field either.

No different than Frazier. Supposedly a good kid, tried hard, didn't make it.  Like Holland's dad, Frazier's was a regular on message boards...... until.....

Don't blame them.  I understand it.  You hurt for your kid.  But there's coffee to smell and the Hollands seem to lack that sense.

All b.s. aside, I think we pick on Jake for two reasons. We have some fun with it. We had rather laugh than cry. And, because he is the scapegoat for the shoottacious job we (Chiz/Tubbs) have done for recruiting/developing/keeping LB's  over the last several years. It's atrocious.
I don't question the kid's heart and I appreciate his desire to win. I know that two experienced DC's with very long lists of credentials have deemed Jake as the best we had for that position. That's fact.

So, we must laugh about it and move on. Hopefully, we will see some others emerge.

I have said it on here before.  The kid is a great warrior, he and his family Auburn folks tried and true.  I have the utmost respect for him.  I have no doubt he tries his best.  Unfortunately, his best isn't good enough.

Come on dude not one tackle in a game?!? at MLB.

So, I surmise that you think that there are better linebackers than Jake Holland.

There's not anything wrong with the performance of these athletes but it doesn't mean they could beat Carl Lewis.

All b.s. aside, I think we pick on Jake for two reasons.

From my understanding Jakes dad tired to beat him a lot as a kid to toughen him up.

He prolly missed a lot.

Spin spin spin.

We make fun of Jake because this is the X and it is our sworn duty to point out and magnify all shortcomings and general screw ups.  From lack of nuttz to trouble with fractions.  Jake is an Auburn man and I'd love to have a beer or 6 with the guy and hear war stories.  But damn, WSU ran about 90 plays the other night and as has been pointed out, not one tackle.  It's been the same old song and dance every week for over 2 years now so yeah, you're going to take a lot of shit if they keep running you out there.

I would dare say his tackling ability is not very keen.

I completely get what he and his dad are saying.

It's why I haven't piled on. What do you want him to do? Quit the team?

The anger and rage should be directed at the linebackers' coach (Harbison?...Wait...do we have a linebacker's coach? I think I found our problem...) then Ellis, then Gus, in that order. For not recognizing that someone can do the job better.

I'm not a fan of picking on one kid as a scapegoat as if I can do any better. I couldn't coach better either, but at least that is someone getting paid to recognize talent or lack thereof vs. simply not being physically capable of performing at a level that is expected of him.

Eugene Fucking Chizik, Tommy Thigpin, Ted Roof, whoever else was doing our LB recruiting since 09.  Go even further back. We knew that Johnson, Stevens, Chris Evans and Bynes were going to leave, what did we do to replace them?  Holland, Curry, Gaston, Freeman, Richardson, Pybus, Jonathan Evans  (who isn't here anymore) and Rah Rah.  No beef about Rah Rah, his neck and back were fucked.  If not I truly believe we wouldn't be having a problem at MLB at this moment.  We haven't recruited jack for LB's in a long time.

I don't see how we can be mad at the current staff.  They tried to keep Foster in the fold and we missed. We got who we got with basically a month to close out the class.  Now as far as starting Jake, they saw what they saw in practice, but listening to Johnson talk this week I don't believe that Jake will start.  He might, but I don't think so.

You remember that one time where WSU ran the ball in the 3 hole (between the LG & LT), Jake had the angle as if the RB was going into the 5 hole (outside the LT)...but at the last second, realizing he was about to overrun the play he leaped backwards, nearly leg whipping the DT & DE in the back?

Ellis Johnson is the LB Coach/DC. I believe Auburn should contact Ray Lewis to become the LB GA and make him an offer he can't refuse

Eh...It's not so much about sparing him his feelings as it is, what do you really want him to do about it? Get more talented? Easier said than done.

The coaches on the other hand, can do something about it. Not play him.

Several years of worse than subpar LB recruiting have done this.  The current staff can only work with what they have this season.

He probably does great in practice, but under performs during games. He should concentrate on his studies and bow out like any respectable AU man (Kodi Burns). I'm telling you, the guy would be great on offense as a long snapper.

Coaching is an issue.  No question.  Josh Bynes started for the Ravens last night.  He could have been much more than he was I think.

But... regardless of that?

"Mah boy is tryin' his ding dang hardest, and folks criticizing him hurts his feelings..."

and

"They don't know what they're talking about"

Well screw both of them.

Criticism comes with the territory.  His hair was stupid looking.   But other than that, the criticism is related directly to his play.  His play absolutely sucks.  It's not personal.  He's not doing the job.  I don't care if he's trying his best.  His best isn't good enough.

And it's not just us criticizing him.

We DO know what we're talking about.  My daughter loves Auburn just as much as anybody.  I don't want to see her at LB either, although I submit that in two quarters of play she could at least fall on a pile and get an assist.

We gotta become a defensive unit that's feared!!!

A defensive unit that takes the paralyzed opponent's socks off and wears them on their helmets for the next game!!!

A defensive unit that tears through the OL with reckless abandonment!!!

A defensive unit that will make the opponent quit!!!

A defensive unit that can't wait to get back out on the field to tally up some more injuries!!!

A defensive unit that fights to get on the Kickoff Coverage team, so that they'd get to fly down the field, full speed, and literally crack helmets and cave in face masks!!!

Basically, we need 11 Jake Hollands on the Defense.
