Is still turrible. Yes I know one drive but
-
Well, qb has a cannon.
-
Jake Holland has no business being on the field. I don't care how stupid Frost is. No business.
-
And Frost sucks also, we screwed
-
At least their defense is as shootty as ours when it comes to tackling people in open field footraces.
Also, Marshall is 2-8 for 20 yards and 3 rushes for 5 yards. Hey, at least the other guys are getting it done. And thank Gus for that 2 point conversion...might be the difference in this one. :aubie:

In my opinion time to put JJ in.

Wow, those are some shitty stats

Good thing is our RBs can beat their defense in the foot races. Marshall wasn't getting a lot of help - dudes were dropping balls like Skrillex does the bass. Hoping for an improved second half.
-
Whitehead is still Neiko lite and Mincy can't cover shit. NM looks like a quicker KF. RBs are freaking beasts!
-
I think the red shirt will come off of JJ soon. Marshall is terrible.

That doesn't give me a real good feeling about the rest of the season. Oh yeah, all I am going by is what y'all are posting because I can't pick the game up down here damn it.
-
We have very athletic QBs!
Therezie must have pics on his ref!
-
Our DBs have more INTs tonight (3) than all of last year (2). So, that's improved.

Well. Therezie can catch. But coverage is BAD! At least if a QB is bad, we might catch a few.
If we shift and the run backside for another 15 yards one more time, I might hang myself.
Against to lowest of SEC teams, we will get punished.
Adams is a MAN!
If we had a Chris Todd type QB, we run away with this game. I pray NM leans to lay a little touch on the ball.
-
Defense, specifically the secondary, was surprisingly efficient.
The one unit that surpassed my expectations, personally.
-

You didn't miss anything. Defense not very good. I personally don't understand how Marshall won the job. From what I heard and saw from Johnson past year it's a no brained. I know it was high school but look at the stats and from what I saw on the field tonight a true freshmen can vompete with what I saw tonight.
-
To be fair to Marshall, two dropped passes and a stumble in the first quarter should have made him 13 of 19 with TD and minimum of 20 more yards for the night. Not great but should be plenty when your team gains 297 on the ground.
We have work to do for sure but saw some positives we can work on. Not ready to give up on them yet.
-
I was impressed with the way the team responded in the 2nd half, last year's team would've gotten stomped in the second half with the way the Leach Air Raid works the quick passing game.
Holland needs to put on a Auburn t-shirt and sit in the stands...right next to Chad Slade. So fucking sick of watching them. Slade does nothing but stalemate the DL, that's it...no movement. He doesn't move his feet when he makes contact and he ducks his head at times, which allows the defender to swim right past him, stuffing the RB in the backfield.
Holland continues to guess where the ball's going, and he's wrong nearly everytime...and when he's wrong, he gets swamped by the OL and Gabe Wright getting doubled into him. When the defense is running a Dime or Nickel Package (which is what we run), you can't have your second line of defense getting clobbered or being no where near the ball carrier.
-
Maybe I just don't know anything about football any more. Maybe Johnson's defensive package is different, but when a team runs a downhill sweep, you shouldn't see #5 drifting into the edge of the frame 15 yards downfield.
Don't linebackers scrape the line and fill the gap to stop the run or force it outside wider so the safety has time to come up and help?
Jake Holland is quite possibly the worst defensive player I've ever seen. I have no idea why Washington State threw 65 passes. I don't know why they threw one. All they had to do was run right up the middle of the field for 15 yards a clip. Holland either got dump trucked, or he blundered forward without reading the play and got tangled up away from the ball or he stood there running in place until somebody (or a whiff of air) got his shoulders turned parallel to the sidelines and he was out of the play.
Care to guess how many tackles and assists Holland racked up last night?

I think Ellis saw it too. I didn't see Holland out there much in the second half. THS is right. Our LB situation as a whole is just sad. All of them, not just jake.
-
I don't give a fuck if Holland knows the plays, put someone out there that will see ball, hit ball...let someone else call the God Damn defense. Is it set in stone that the MLB calls the defense? Hell, if that's the case, go get some M.I.T. students to transfer and suit up.

We don't have that guy, that's the problem. Frost isn't going to work either.

I thought Holland was gonna be good? No more patience?
-
I had rather take my chances and line up Montravious Adams at MLB...at least he would be a bitch to double, standing up and in motion. Yeah, yeah I know he is 300 pounds.

Frost was no better. If Cass is third string, I don't want to know how bad he is.

I think I've been saying our defense will not be good. As Kaos pointed out, this isn't a great WSU team. They are VERY well coached, and executed the simplest of what Leach does very well, but they're not overly talented, nor did they do anything to fool us. And although they are mostly no huddle, they don't go especially fast. More like steady pace no huddle. We are going to struggle (and that's being optimistic) with average teams that have cohesive offenses, like Vandy and Ole Miss.

I don't think we will have a problem with Vandy at all. I think we easily handle them wanna bet on it?

Maybe the answer is to convert to a 5-6 defense. We have a better chance of firing through the gaps and stuffing the run with 5 d-lineman, we will have an extra DB to cover Whitehead's man, and the production at LB stays the same.
Seriously though, till our D-linemen learn to hold their gaps and our LBs learn to shed blocks we are gonna get popped on running plays time from time. However, I don't think its any coincidence that as the pass D improved tremendously in the 2nd half the run D took a step back. I think CEJ knew his best chance at stopping their O was to have his D-linemen get up field and make their QB move out of the pocket where he was least effective. If guys get out of their rush lanes and we get popped a few times on the run so be it. He knew Leach would ever commit to the run and he was right.
1st Half
WSU passing
26-34 264 yards 1 TD 2 int
WSU rushing
12 carries 19 yards
21 points.
2nd half
WSU passing
9-31 80 yards 0 TDs 1 int
WSU rushing
11 carries 101 yards
3 points.

I love, love, LOVE!!! Second half adjustments...I've missed them so much.
You know, it's true what they say, you don't realize how much you've missed something until it's gone. But when that something comes back, you hold onto it and cherish it.
-
Just now watching the game. Secon INT. Jake turns around in time to see it, then starts to CELEBRATE - jumping up and down - while the ball is still live. It suddenly dampens on his that he needs to BLOCK and my then does he reengage.
Did not think he could be worse than last year.

If any one can post a picture of a Holland tackle I would send you $500.00 or donate to your favorite charity. you made my offer moot.
-
Hopefully we are saving Ford for conference play. CEJ says that Lawson and Daniel are our best situational speed rushers plus we have Sanders, Owens, Eguae and Carter, all with real experience.
Inside we have space eaters in Blackson, Whitaker, Wright and now Bradley.
Please let us wheel Adams on stunts as we did with Fairley in 2010.

I'll take that $500 in $20 bills.

Sorry Prowler, but Hollands hand being on the player already being taken down does not constitute as a tackle.....even if we were playing two hand tag.

Can he drop to cover, stay free of 300 lb. guards and bring a ball carrier down?

Not much of a video but he looks the part.

I wondered about this sat night. I only saw Frost and Jake--it looks like we will be seeing more of Frost but still, we need Flowers to step up.

I can't find the thread where I put an over/under on Holland getting blown up or missing a tackle.
I said 5 and you took the over. Just watched the DVR and I am pretty sure it was play 4 where they got a first down after he missed the running back who went right by him.

Yeah, I took the over on the amount of plays that he'd either get blown up or miss the tackle...atleast that's what I thought I was calling the over on.
-
Yes we ran mostly dime.
I want our CBs healthy enough to defend receivers rather than covering up for our absent LB play.
They aren't built to take down 220 # backs running at full bore in open field.
Yes some of the stunting up front might have created some problems...I get that.
Our MLB has to be able to react and at least hold on until help arrives.
On wide plays, when outnumbered it's expected that the WLB engage blockers and give themselves up occasionally...I get that too. But how does one get a positive grade from getting locked up, whiffing or leaving ones feet?
-

Well one can only assume that's what he was being graded on.
Is there a Butkus award for that?
