Title: AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHH
Post by: Snaggletiger on December 19, 2014, 08:00:07 PM
What in the frickity flippity frock are the Braves doing?  They were close to last in hitting in the entire Majors last year and they just traded Justin Upton 29 HR and 102 RBI to the freaking Padres.  And for what?  "Prospects"  Prospects?  One is a really well thought of left handed pitcher....THEY DON'T NEED PITCHING!!!!!!!  who by the way will miss the entire season with elbow surgery.  Only one other "Prospect" has ever played a lick in the majors.

They send Jason Heyward off and sign Nick Markakisass or some shit.  He's having neck surgery right now for herniated discs.  He's already about 50 years old.

HOLY DAMN!!!  Bring back Bobby Cox and let Ted Turner buy the team back.  They might win 27 games next year.  Oh, and the Padres got Upton AND Matt Kemp from the Dodgers.  This organization has officially said to hell with 2015.  I hope not one soul shows up to watch this pile of crap.

I thought the answer was two very good bats that could work pitchers and protect a guy like Upton so he could see some better pitches but:
Looks like they are undoing any positives they had in their favor including hope.

Well, let's get up to speed with some more of the Braves stellar moves in the off season.  Since we last spoke, they've added:

Jim Bust Johnson.  Another relief pitcher who the A's let go after posting a sizzling 7.09 ERA last season.

Jason Long Term Grilli.  Guess what?  Another relief pitcher.  Why "Long Term"?  He's 38. Speaking of almost 38:

A.J. Buy A Vowel Pierznski.  A 37 year old catcher coming off his worst offensive performance of his career.

So, the question is where does that leave Evan Gattis?  Do they keep his stick and put him in left in Upton's place where he has no business playing?  Do they trade one of the offensive bright spots from last year? Hey I know, they could use him to get some more left handed relief pitching prospects.  I understand rebuilding. I'm all for it if need be.  But signing a 38 year old relief pitcher, a 37 year old catcher and a 36 year old outfielder....I got nuthin....

Cards signed him out of retirement when Molina went down in 14.  Guess the Braves liked what he did with the Cards in 14 (.251 BA, 5HR, 37 RBI).

While we're dogging the Bravos, thought I'd share this from SB Nation.  I lol'd my lederhosen.

(While Ray gives out his sleepers for the year, I have decided to pick one player from each MLB team as the worst player on that team.  While this has nothing to do with fantasy and I wouldn't recommend actually taking my advice not to pick these players, my picks are more to do with personal matters.  First up: the Atlanta Braves.)

Sure, it would be quite easy to have B.J. Upton as the worst current Atlanta Brave, but that would be lazy, and I am sure everyone else has already written about how bad Upton has been.  Therefore, he is not my pick.

My pick is Mike Minor for several reasons.

First, he has the funkiest delivery since Tim Robbins in Bull Durham.  (His performance almost ruins the movie for me.)  Seriously Mike, what the hell are you doing?  Did you not watch Tom Glavine growing up?  His delivery was smoother than me on a first date.  Glavine was so smooth that you wanted him to pick you up, carry you into bed and make love to you all night.  That is how awesome his delivery was back then.  Yours, however, reminds me of the first time I watched the HBO show Oz: awkward feelings occurred.

Your 2014 record doesn't exactly inspire confidence in fantasy owners either.  We are all aware that the Braves went into a tailspin at the end of the year, but there is no excuse for just winning six games to 12 losses.  That is quite pathetic.  Oh, and let's not even discuss your 1.44 WHIP, because I have no idea what the hell that means.  I am sure it is awful, though.

Sure, you were late coming to the rotation this year due to a preseason procedure (say that five times real fast!), but excuses are not accepted around these parts.  Remember in Oz when Christopher Meloni cracked a guy's neck, ultimately killing him?  Yeah, that happened because that guy tried to make excuses.  Let's not let that happen.

Finally, and this is your worst offense of all, you cost me a beer in a bet multiple times to my friend Keith.  His theory is that you always give up one solo homerun in a game.  My theory is that he is full of crap and that he was going to buy me a beer for being so full of crap.  You know what, though?  He was right!  YOU ALWAYS GIVE UP A SOLO HOMERUN!  You cost me, like, 10 beers this past season.  Sure, I could have started to see a trend and stopped betting, but what is the fun in that?

So, Mr. Minor, I am proud to present you with the first annual Worst Brave of the Year Award.  There is no monetary prize or trophy, but the knowledge that you are, in fact, horrible.

The catcher has bum knees. The best pitcher is a reliever with a live arm and out center fielder thinks he can hit the long ball like Mayes, but really isn't worth a shit. Oh, did I mention that our new left fielder (Gattis) can't hit a fucking curve ball?

This season is going to be like what would happen if the Indians didn't win the whole damn thing.

Been a Braves fan almost all my life.

Loved the Braves even when they sucked.  Loved the Bob Horner Braves. Loved the Chris Chambliss Braves. Loved the Phil Neikro Braves. Loved the Gene Garber, Al Hrb, Dale Murphy, Claudell Washington, Rick Camp, Terry Pendleton, Rafael Ramirez, Jeff Blauser, Sid Bream, Juan Berenger, Otis Nixon, Bruce Benedict, Steve Bedrosian, Brett Butler, Rich Mahler, Glenn Hubbard, Charlie Liebrandt, Steve Avery... all those Atlanta teams.  Found Ted Turner in the dugout to be hilarious.  Liked Torre and even liked Chuck Tanner. I started following the Braves when some dude named Lum was the manager. Some of my best sports memories, actually.

But this? This "shit on the fans because we're moving and we can" sell off?  I can't abide it.

Getting rid of Jason Heyward for a few not ready for the big show bums?  That was an abomination.  Pissed me off immensely.

Got rid of Justin Upton and kept the other shitty Upton.

They traded Evan Gattis for a guy named Michael Fuzzychappedass,  (aka Michael Foltynewicz).

Beachy and Medelin are free agents and unlikely to resign.

Why don't they just let Freddie Freeman, Andrelton Simmons and Craig Kimbrell go so they can field a Class C softball team next season?

But no. They're keeping Kimbrell supposedly.  Who knows why, there won't be any fucking games for him to close next year.

Fuck the Braves.  Fuck them dead.

This^^^  All of it.  Used to listen to the Braves on radio before cable got invented.  Went through a ton of lean years. Not just lean...abysmal.  Horrible.  But they were our Braves.  And when they turned it all around, it was incredible.  When Sid Bream FINALLY made it home, I woke everybody up in the house. It was the World Series, Super Bowl and MNC all wrapped up in one, mainly because Braves fans had suffered for so long.

It's never been the same since.  Yes, it was frustrating winning all those pennants with only one WS ring to show for it but trust me, that was FAR better than all those years before when you hoped somebody named Larvell "Sugar Bear" Blanks or Biff Pocoroba could somehow lead your beloved team to within 10 games of .500.

Like K said, the selloff is well under way.  Gone are the days of thinking you might not have just enough pieces at midseason, so let's pick up a Crime Dog McGriff or Marquis Grissom or Kenny Loftin to try and put us over the top. For some inexplicable reason, they've taken this corps of young guys that it looked like they could build the future around and torn it all down to the ground.  And the absolute crap they're getting in return is mind boggling.  The Braves were 3rd in the Majors in pitching and next to last in hitting.  So, they sell off all the hitting and go get tons of unproven, untested young arms and several over the hill relievers.

Oh, and they keep the crappy manager that couldn't take a pretty talented team anywhere.  I'm with K 100%

Been reading some of the comments Hart has been making and he is really shoveling heavy scoops of BS.  He says this team is really going to be competitive and besides, they wouldn't have been picked to win with the roster they had.  Really?  So instead of adding a piece here or there to bolster the line up, you sold it off for prospects.  I guess anything is possible if you look at the no-names the A's play with every year.  I'll watch but I'm not expecting anything.
