Title: Putcher High School Stuff Here
Post by: Snaggletiger on September 12, 2014, 02:39:42 PM
No, not pics of underage girls.  That would be wrong.  For most people.

One of the things I think is so great about football season in general is the season arrives and it's major intensity for what seems like a few short weeks and then suddenly it's playoffs or bowl season.  No month long preseason then 162 games.  No starting practice in September and the season ends in June.  It's about 13 action packed weeks and you see who gets rewarded at the end with either playoffs in HS or Bowl games and/or playoffs in college.  Believe it or not, tonight is week 4 for State High School programs.

The realignment in high school this year saw another category, 7A, for the top enrollment schools, which probably creates a little more balance and competition between teams at the top.  Hoover has played it's usual early killer schedule but they haven't faired as well as they sit at 1-2.  GH's Central Red Devils look like bad asses early with a 3-0 slate.  How's your alma tomater doing so far this year?  Did realignment create any new rivalries or suspend games between some long time opponents.

Locally, there's a little more talent than in year's past.  Dale County has a beast of a running back, Jamarius Henderson, who Gus was down to look at last weekend along with the Charles Henderson LB and Auburn commit, McBryde. (Forgot his first name)  Henderson has the size, speed and stats to be considered one of the best and he has some offers from a few schools like UAB and even Kentucky.  Have no idea how reliable, but WOTS is spelling his own name may be a problem for him.  Hasn't stopped big time programs before.

Going tonight to see Sidney Lanier come down and play the mighty 2-1 Rehobeth Rebels in 5A action.  (The Rebels have won 3 games combined in 2 years, so...)  Going to any games?  Any talent to keep an eye on?

I will be visiting the old homestead in Prattville for the Central Phenix City game. There will be a  celebration of the 1984 state championship team. I will be honored to stand next to Kevin Turner as honorary captains. He has been fighting the good fight against ALS for a couple of years now. I pray he is able to participate. They will be semi retiring his old number along with Lo Picket's number. Those numbers will be worn only by players that have been deemed to be worthy.

Hard to believe it has been 30 years.

You young pukes live it up. The years fly by fast.

Come on put if you are near.

PHS looks to be back strong this season.

I guess that segment they ran on Turner was probably a year ago or more.  He was having a pretty rough time then.  Hope he's able to make it.

He is in rough shape right now.
I'm hoping he can make it to midfield with us. I'll carry him I need be. He needs to be there one last time.

The McMinnville Grizzles got thrashed last weekend against West Salem...they will be taken to the woodshed this weekend against South Salem.

So overall a usual start for our local team.

I think you guys will make some noise in the Greater Valley Conference this year.  Coach Robin Hill has a young group and AD Mark Hinthorn has confidence in him. Hang in there.  Go Grizz.

Central has been scoring like a 2 dollar hooker this year. And their coach is Prattville's old coach (Jamey Dubose). Should be a classic. Both strong.

You JD or Lee? Can't remember. EDIT: never mind, saw Snags post on JD.

Lee got that arse kicked last night. And I think JD is even worse. Also got that arse kicked. Montgomery schools used to be badass.

My daughters school here in Woodstock, GA is looking pretty good.
Etowah high school. They are racking up yards. It helps when you got 4 division I linemen.

Twins commuted to Ga. Tech. Center I think miss going Air Force and a junior that will easily be Div. I.

The run game is pretty stout here.

Huge deal. I just have no ties to the team and don't know much about the history of the teams here. I still try to follow it...but there are so many freaking teams and divisions here. I have no clue of the big rivalries or traditional powers.

Speaking of Montgomery schools, went to see Rehobeth and Lanier Friday night.  Rehobeth won with their incredibly athletic, slow ass country white boys. Sad observation.  Back in I believe 2001, I was up in Montgomery and some buddies and I decided to go check out Lanier vs. Prattville.  Roman Harper was playing for P'Ville and damned if I can recall the QB's name that played for Lanier.  He signed with Arky, finished at Alabama State and played for the Vikings.  Anywayz, Crampton Bowl holds a little over 25K if memory serves.  The place was packed.  Incredible atmosphere.

Friday night, I counted less than 40 people in the stands on the visitors side.

Well Prattville lost 42-35 in a game where tackling was at a premium. Phenix City has a plethora fo talent on that team and former Pville coach Dubose has them scoring at a regular pace.

But for the old guys, it was the celebration before the game that mad the night. here is a clip from that:
(its hard to fathom a once top notch athletic specimen reduced to what Kevin is now. ALS sucks, no doubt)

I listened to it. Scary part about Cen-PC is they are mostly So's and Jr's. I think Dubose is just that good of a coach. The admin at Central was sick of D1 talent being squandered year after year with quarter final exits. The guys on the radio made it sound like the stat column (havent seen them yet) was a lot worse than the final score was.

ALS is an awful disease. Ive seen it personally reduce 2 once premium athletes to nothing. It is indeed sad to watch.

So which one was you in the vid? The black guy?

LOL. Yeah. I was the black guy.

No. I was the one standing next to Kevin most of the time with the red striped shirt on.

It was a slightly funny thing to see. All of the Auburn guys wore the OLD Prattville red. There was no way any of us were going to wear any color close to crimpsun.

I tried to get in on the interview at halftime, but my old coach talks so slow and deliberate, that I didn't get a lot in.

Dubose left Prattville under a bit of a recruiting cloud, but the guy could coach. And now that he has the athletes, CPC looked damn explosive. Prattville tried to hang with them, but their defense just wore out.

Talked to Pettway and Boston. They were there along with Golson watching the game.

LOL. In honor of the day, I had trimmed 2 inches off.

I think the guy beside me was Bryan Harper, Coach Harper's son and Roman Harper's older brother. He was a ball boy for us back then.

The young lady talking to Kevin in the white collared shirt (from 1984. LOL) is my 15 yr old daughter.

It was a fun night. We old guys don't get thought of as often any more. I tried to wear my parachute pants but the velcro was old. Yeah. that's why!

Prattville, especially back then, was a fun town to grow up in. It was just big enough to have fun and just small enough to fly under the radar. And like most small towns, football ruled on Friday night. (Still does)

Central PC continues their streak winning at Opelika. And that is no easy place to win. I believe opelika was top 3 in 6a. Of course the bham Power 20 will still have Hoover #1 with 2-3 losses. I think central was 3 and opelika was 4 in it or vice versa. So it was a marquee matchup much like the a Prattville game last week.

Yeah, the Hoover power ranking doesn't make sense at all. As far as 6A, Spanish Fort and Clay-Chalkville have  held the top two pretty much all season followed by Shades Valley, Opelika, Carver.

The fumbling, bumbling Panthers of Pell City snapped their 2 game losing streak with a 56-21 win over Huffman. I'm not saying they turned a corner with last night's win. Huffman is one of those schools that struggle to have enough uniforms that match - but their band puts on a hell of a show at halftime.

Rumor has it that one of their fans was arrested for allegedly pulling out a "Birmingham credit card" at the concession stand during the game. No information on the caliber was provided.

The last time I went to their stadium, they played at Lawson Field - across from what used to be Ivan Leonard Chevrolet just off I-20. It wasn't too bad back then.

Several years back, I was among a group of folks who were called "white mother fuckers" as we were walking out of the stadium in Hueytown. I responded that I, "would fuck any mother, not just a white one, provided she wasn't missing any limbs."

The group I was in laughed, and the heckler could only look at me with a "Whaaaaa...?" expression on her face.

Are all of these 6A? No 7A in the bunch?

Latest and greatest from the "Biased to Bham Schools" Power 20 (first 10 anyway)

I will be in attendance at #5 tonight scoping out what we hope to be a future Auburn Tiger DB in the class of 2016, Jon Broussard (4 star, top 35 national player, top 3 at DB position)

Rank, School (Record)

1. Hoover (4-2) at Tuscaloosa County
2. Spanish Fort (6-0) at Blount
3. Clay-Chalkville (6-0) at No. 4 Shades Valley
4. Shades Valley (6-0) vs. No. 3 Clay-Chalkville
5. Central-Phenix City (7-0) vs American Heritage (Fla.)
6. Fairhope (6-0) at Mary G. Montgomery
7. St. Paul’s (7-0) Does not play
8. Prattville (5-1) vs. Enterprise
9. Oak Mountain (5-1) vs. Mountain Brook
10. Opelika (5-1) at Valley

The only one I have a problem with is Hoover. Maybe this is a little biased but I certainly think Clay needs to be above Hoover. Matter of fact, I would still have Hoover in the top ten but would be more closer to like 6th.

So two of the top ten's teams' only loss are from Central PC?

That is correct.

Tough area this year from Montgomery to the Ga border (Phenx City). Also have Auburn and Smiths Station in that area as well as Carver Montgomery. Smiths was top 10 in 7A until last week's lost - also to Central PC.

American Heritage is No. 5 in Fla. Central PC's schedule is about as hard as our beloved College Football Tiggers.

I watched Hoover play that team out of Miami the first game or two of the season.  Hoover hung until the end and was ahead a good bit of the game.  But holy road graders, Batman.  That team from Meeyami was HUGE.  300 pound plus guys across the front lines.  I thought they'd run Hoover off the field.

Well, that sums up the excuses for the first loss.

How'd they lose the 2nd?

But hey still #1!!

Oh I agree 100%.  Have no love...or hate for Hoover either way.  Two losses and you have no business at #1....uuuunnnnless you're Alabama.  Just commenting more on that team being bigger than many college teams across the front.

Putting a fence around Miami in the 80's built many a national championships.

Oh, and hookers, and blow too.

So essentially Hoover can lose twice ala Bammer and still be considered the main player?

Whelp. Hoover whooped up on Pville last night. PHS without their starting RB looked a but over-matched.

Hoover has some big talented players. PHS did shut them down the 2nd half, but the O could not score enough points.

It was a surprise for PHS to even be there. looks like coach Anderson is doing some things right.

In other news, Etowah, here in Woodstock is playing Archer in the semis this Friday. (GA is a bit behind)
Etowah has 3 D1 linemen. That makes for some good rushing. But Archer is a scoring machine. Should be a good game.

That is correct. The way the matchups and brackets lined up, it worked out well for them. Baker was an easy 1st rounder, Central goes down with a big injury, and Foley takes out Fairhope for them in a weird twist of fate. So ultimately Hoover was able to draw probably the 5th of 6th best team in the state in the final which is really lucky on their part. I was rooting for Pville but knew it was a long shot.

3A Final in the books.  Madison Academy beat Dale County 70-34.

I was listening off and on to local high school announcers so you're lucky to even know what happened on a play.  And they certainly weren't giving any stats.  But, it sounded like Kerryon Johnson was a beast for MA. Also sounded like Henderson was kicking ass too but got worn down by the end of the 3rd going both ways.

14+ yards per carry....for the SEASON...is that true?

For which back?  Kerryon had 1,480 yards on the season according to the paper but he may actually be averaging 14 per because his running mate, Malik Miller (6' 225 Junior) had 1,390.  Henderson probably wound up with around 3,300.

I never saw the amount of carries but the article said he had minimal totes.  Plus, with Miller doing about the same, I get the impression they pretty much did what they wanted.  The broadcast did say Johnson played some D but he wasn't in all the time.  They had enough athletes to not have to go both ways.  Err'body on Dale County played both ways.  It was 42-27 at half so I imagine by the end of the 3rd DC was gassed and game ovah.
