Like last year, this will be where I update the signees as they come in today. Being that until sometime hopefully today, I'm unemployed, I'll be keeping my fellow X'rs up to date.
I can also be followed by twitter today (AuburnChopper1).

Good luck with the job search.

Ladarius Phillips is a two star... BUT... at FB.
He has been called a much more talented D-lineman, and that's what he projects to be at Auburn.
6-1 260 4.8
More to come... It surprised everyone, but in a good way from those in the know on Rivals and Scout.

Good luck, Shon Coleman. Except when you play Alabama, of course.

Coleman being official is HUGE!!!

Whoo hooo Coleman to AU. Rivals is reporting that Lemonoir to AU, Jones to Arky soon.
The Calvin Smith buzz is getting heavy....

I think you have a misprint. Shon Coleman was a Bama mole. I'm sure he signed with them today.
I was stupid for buying any of that stale bread.

This might very well be the big surprise.
-
Who is Calvin Smith?
4* teammate of Lemonier. Was committed to TN, but now is actively looking. COULDDDDDD be a package deal for someone with Lemonier. It would be a huge surprise for someone.

Well, at the time - it looked real bad.
Plus Bama got a commit from the OL out of Dematha so it may have changed things. Nonetheless - I am glad to have him.

Thank you. And I only remember one, this one, and then I wasn't "wrong" so much as I considered an opinion that may have been in error and didn't necessarily adopt it as mine, but gave it credence.
So I'm back to never.

Florida State is closing very, very well.
Just picked up Christian Jones. #2 OLB in the nation.

I don't see why he would. His recruitment was straight forward, and there was no disrespect shown to anybody. There isn't any bad blood there. Thats what my Arky comment was in reference to.

It will be interesting to see if, with a new coach, they can actually do something with the talent they bring in year after year.

Why would a 4* from Florida go to Mew Mexico? Kind of weird.

All this chatting -- of which I'm a part -- is distracting from following the flow.
Maybe you should separate this deal and put a NO TALKING one that actually lists the signatures and can't have all these replies. Then we can have fun with each other and with the Bama stooges and the suddenly quiet piggies and not be concerned with straying too far from the ride...
Just my suggestion.

Thanks, Prowler. Too bad that fuck has an actual job during the day. He'd be having fun with this. Wouldn't matter who signed or didn't, he'd have a cock-a-doodle-doo right after the announcement to confess that he knew it all along.
Sorry you have to work, Prowler old pal. But you can start a cock-a-doodle thread later for ridiculation purposes when you get home tonight. Does a body good.

Variation #7 of "we didn't want him anyway."
Clever use of that variance.

Grant has signed with Bammer.
Who? The guy on the $50 bill? I almost met him once. I had a $50 and he was staring out of it at me, but I couldn't get him to say anything. Seemed like a nice guy, though.

Yeah because Cal is known for buying players, no wait that would be Bama.

Yeah because Cal is known for buying players, no wait that would be Bama.
The Clemson Rivals board was the board that posted huge explanations of what was going on with the Allen situation. I believe Token posted a message from their boards where this "handler" thing came to light. It seems the Bama boards thought the Allen situation just was what it was; brother riding his coattails, and Alabama didn't want to offer and left it at that. I wanted Allen to come to Alabama pretty bad, thats for sure.
-
I thought Holland would've been one of the first ones in. Oh well, guess his dad was wrong.

So other than Reed, are any of these a concern? I know, count the chickens after they sign and all, but at this point, "fairly coinfident" is enough for me. I need a nap.

Feel good about all of these. Reed is getting jacked with pretty good by in-state peer pressure, but still should sign with Auburn.

I embarrased you? I apologize!!!

I just noticed Lemonier is not listed here. Unintentional omission?
No. The list is the group that HAD committed, just waiting on signatures. Lemonier is still technically an uncommitted prospect.

So we lost Jones. Lemonier is coming up in about an hour. Who else was uncommitted we were looking at?
-
So we lost Jones. Lemonier is coming up in about an hour. Who else was uncommitted we were looking at?
Mabye Calvin Smith...but that would be about it, and I don't feel that Smith is going to Auburn. Lemonier would be a big win versus a FSU team that thrives on these last minute signing day deals.
I think if there IS anyone else out there, it'll be a last minute surprise.

Lemonier chatter is getting heavier from rival sources, scout sources, and now Newberg from ESPN..... All seem to be saying Lemonier to AU.
That would be a huge five star pickup.

Notre Dame - 22 recruits, 2 in the ESPN 150.
1 of the those recruits is from Utah.
Notre Dame has Utah locked down, no one gets out of Utah without signing with ND.

Looks like USC will pass us for #3. They are only 55 points back and if they land Henderson and another big name (likely), they'll pass us. I know, I know, who cares....I'm just pointing it out.
Also, LSU is making a little run today, stealing guys left and right. They are only 53 points behind Alabama now for #5.

Jesus, USC has 16 commits, and is still ranked #4? That is the fewest commitments out of the top 25 classes. That is fucking insane.

I hope the kid does well, and for his sake, that all of the bullshit kicked up over the past few days isn't true. It would suck for a kid's career to be ruined by some jackass.

Bryan Matthews just reported that 13 Hialeah players are signing today to various schools. He said Lemonier has one hat with him....Auburn. That can't be good right?
If he is making an announcement that everyone is waiting to hear, why would he have the announcement answer in the form of a hat sitting right there.
He's pulling the hat switcheroo right?

Somewhere called the University of Auburn
-
Wow, that's a big one. Holding on to Coleman and getting Lemonier is actually a nice closing I'd say.
-
so who is/was the surprise possible commitment discussed in another thread yesterday?
-
So we're down to only Bonomolo and Reed. I know USC had spoken to Bonomolo, so I wonder if something is going on there. Hopefully the most recent Reed rumor is true (he's signed his Auburn LOI and will announce shortly).

Wow, that's a big one. Holding on to Coleman and getting Lemonier is actually a nice closing I'd say.
Gotta be impressed with how AU closed out. Props to you guys.
-
So we're down to only Bonomolo...
i heard this guy was catching some waves and wouldn't be faxing until sometime after 1 PST.

I wish Reed's LOI would show up.

Maybe he signed it in the wrong place.

Stole him away from Dook, it seems. 3.7 GPA and a 27 on his ACT. I don't see any problems with him qualifying at least.

Oh that's Tay Zonday. Close.
Anyway, he ain't gonna be helping our $tarzz, but I'll take him.

Ummmm...who? On paper, sounds like a pretty good pick up...
Everything I am seeing is saying he projects as a center.
That is a lot larger center than we are used to but I ain't complaining. He also got da book smarts.
-
Evidently he's a true Center. 3.9 GPA... Definitely has it between the ears.
-
We also picked up
Jonsux Meballs 6-8 305 TE
That's the titz! With a little Yoxercising, this kid will go far. I look for him to be in the top 3 for receiving yards in 2011.
Any info on whether or not Bri N. Lixtaint (5-4 185 deep snapper) has inked with the good guys yet?

I googled that name, for real, haha.
We're supposed to be getting three low-rated players today.

Oftentimes we severly underestimate the power of book smarts in the game of football. We'll take it, baby!

Yep...and Bonomonomonnommooolo will make 26 as soon as he finishes with his big wave.

It's still in there GF...
Also funny watching the Seastrunk rumors getting going....
There seems to be a bunch of folks on one side saying his LOI is in already at Oregon...and an equal amount saying it's not....
-
You knocked out my pic again.

Just remember guys like Steven Clark, Tunde Fariyike, and Ladarious Phillips are more than likely simply walk-ons. In Fariyike's case, he will probably be a walk-on that is on an academic scholarship. That won't count against the 28. We got a kicker today that has a 4.7 GPA and is doing the same thing. Plus, AU is back counting I think 5 guys. So really, maybe the three I listed will be scholarship players.
-
Check Oregon's list though, they only have four of their 21 letters in, so it's not like the whole class is done and Seastrunk mysteriously is holding out. I can't imagine in a million years he's coming here. I'll take him, sure, but honestly he's made for what they do up there. Those little backs thrive up there.

so who is/was the surprise possible commitment discussed in another thread yesterday?
Didn't see an answer...so I'm guessing it's either Jonsux Meballs, or Tunde Fariyike. Somebody verify, please.

It will count against the number if he plays football. That's the Bear Bryant rule. Sign some smart kids, put some on volleyball schollies, etc. and dress out 150.
Academic schollies cannot play football without counting against the NCAA football limits.

Bullshit. If they are recruited to the school primarily on an academic basis, then they don't have to use a football scholarship. The three low ranking guys AU signed, and the low ranking kicker Alabama signed, were not primary football recruits. What you're talking about is a rule that disallows an academic scholarship to somebody like Michael Dyer, or Demarcus Milliner. Recruits that are obviously football talents, and are nationally recruited. You would have a hard time convincing the NCAA that a player that was not nationally recruited, had 0 football offers, and had a 4.7 GPA isn't mainly an academic recruit.

On one hand, this makes some sense, but on the other hand, I can't imagine the NCAA leaving it open to interpretation like that. I mean, where is the line drawn? Do they use Rivals rankings to prove a kid was primarily one thing and not another?
I would think that if the kid signs a national letter of intent and faxes it to the football office on national signing day....he's gonna count against the roster limit, IMO. These aren't kids who went the academic rout and then just showed up as a walk-on for spring practice. If that were the case...why the LOI and why ON national signing day? Easy answer....because they're football players. Fariyike and Phillips both had offers and have profiles on recruiting service websites.

What we are talking about, in particular, is on page 177. I would guess a 4.7 GPA would qualify as an "outstanding high school graduate", don't you think, boartitz? Apparently this would apply even if you were primarily a football recruit, so I was a little wrong there. Barrett Jones was on the Bryant Scholarship his first year at Alabama, and he also had a 4.7 GPA when he graduated high school.
-
Where'd Luhshaye Sea-suck end up?
Oregon put out a release to media outlets via internet that they would not release the names of those who faxed LOIs until 1PM PST. Its 1:30 there now and still no word on anybody, so I don't know whats up with that.
-
I think what we're looking at is more on page 183 (as far as how it counts towards athletic scholarship limits).
There are three sections about it...
15.5.1.2 essentially says that a kid can be given financial aid that is not based on athletic ability, and he will not count against a roster limit until he actually participates in a varsity sport. (this is more for schools that still have JV teams I suppose?).
15.5.1.1 applies only if you were enrolled prior to some date in 2005.
15.5.2.2 says that a kid who is awarded financial aid based solely on his academic qualifications can participate without counting towards a roster limit, but only after completing one academic year of full-time enrollment and has achieved a grade point average of 3.3.
So it looks like if a freshman comes in and plays (varsity) he'll count towards the limit. But after his first full year, if he has a 3.3, he can continue to receive academic financial aid and not count toward scholarship limits.
Interesting. I guess that's how they take the subjectivity out of it. You can start him off on academic scholarship, but he still counts towards an athletic scholarship for the first year. If the kid has a 3.3 after the first year (thereby proving his academic worthiness?), you can stop counting him against your athletic scholarship limit.
But I'm guessing this applies only to those who can qualify for an academic scholarship to begin with...not just any ole player who happens to have a 3.3 after his first year.

Did he play football his first year? When he hits the field, his academic schollie is over with.
His folks can pay his way and that won't count against the limit, but very few ever do that. You'll see a few football players go out for other sports during the off season, but you won't see a player with a scholarship in another sport play football.
You're pretty quick to call bullshit when you don't even know the rules. Best to listen and be thought a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Not unless they have changed the rule within the last 10 or so years. I played football and was on an academic scholarship. My folks didn't pay my way, my academic scholarship did...and I even played in the little games...

I think my drunken spiel originated with the academic scholarship "loophole". With the admission differences between our two schools, why don't yall have a bunch of 6'7" 300lb Einsteins on yall's roster? I mean, yall's Einsteins can be dumber than ours and still enroll. RWS says it legit. Why the fuck ain't yall capitalizing on this gig? Dumb ass Bammers or what? Why ain't everyone doing it if it is OK?
I tole yall earlier I would get vociferous. Prolly have to go to Bammer graduate school before they unlocked the vault with the dictionary wif the big words in it.
Funky wag and all.

The Vanderbilt-esque comment about Arky being academically superior. You brag about academic superiority and I compare it to piss poor performances on the football field. It's kinda simple, really.

Barrett Jones says he's full of shit too. Another example is the Bryant Scholarship. Its not an athletic scholarship, and it can be awarded to any player whose father played or coached for Bear Bryant. If you are, for example, a non-recruited walk on, you can start every single game every single season you are at UA and you will never count towards the 85. Its considered institutional aid, since no other school has that particular program.

This rule is why the sign and place deal is so popular with some colleges. Or encouraging walk-ons who only practice with the team and hang around to see if an athletic scholarship opens up at a later date.

This is on page 183. Maybe I'm misinterpreting something, but to me, it seems pretty clear:
15.5.1.2 Football or Basketball, Varsity Competition. In football or basketball, a student-athlete who
was recruited by the awarding institution and who receives institutional financial aid (as set forth in Bylaw
15.02.4.1) granted without regard in any degree to athletics ability does not have to be counted until the student-athlete engages in varsity intercollegiate competition (as opposed to freshman, B-team, subvarsity, intramural or club competition) in those sports. For this provision to be applicable, there shall be on file in the office of the athletics director certification by the faculty athletics representative, the admissions officer and the chair of the financial aid committee that the student’s admission and financial aid were granted without regard in any degree to athletics ability.
15.5.1.2.2 Exception—Receipt of Institutional Academic Aid Only. In football or basketball, a
student-athlete who was recruited by the awarding institution andwhose only source of institutional financial aid is academic aid based solely on the recipient’s academic record at the certifying institution, awarded
independently of athletics interests and in amounts consistent with the pattern of all such awards made by
the institution, may compete without counting in the institution’s financial aid team limits, provided he or she has completed at least one academic year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and has
achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.300 (on a 4.000 scale) at the certifying institution
(Adopted: 10/27/05 effective 8/1/06)
No matter what type of scholarship you came into school with....if you PLAY (engages in varsity intercollegiate competition) you WILL count towards the 85.
The exception is listed in 15.5.1.2.2, but that can only happen after a full year of enrollment for someone that was accepted on an academic scholarship from the beginning, AND held a 3.3 after one year.

Not if you are a non-recruited walk-on. A recruited walk-on would, though. Either way, the school has to submit to the NCAA that somebody will be a non-recruited or a recruited walk-on. Once the NCAA verifies it, its all gravy.

Recruiting or not, this subject is posted on BOL 11 times a year and Tim Watts always has a link to a bylaw that states once the Bryant scholarship awarded player competes in any live game, he counts towards the 85.
If I'm not mistaken, the bylaw was posted by Dennis above. It's pretty clearly worded too.

According to UA, if the player in question is a walk-on football player who was not recruited by UA's coaches, that player will never count against Alabama's scholarship numbers, even if he plays in every game for all four years.
If the player was a recruited walk-on, a student-athlete who was recruited by Alabama's coaches and who receives the Bryant Scholarship, that player does not count against Alabama's scholarship numbers until he sees playing time.

Yes. Division I school. I got redshirted my first year and played in some games my freshman year. All on an academic scholarship...
So you didn't play your first year. Had good grades and were not recruited? Or was this several years ago before these rules came into effect?

Fail. Fucking Faility-fail-fail. No matter what he says. Fail.
Why are ya'll still debating this? It bored me three pages ago.

The above doesn't mention if the person is receiving financial aid. It only addresses whether they are a walk-on or not. I'm guessing a walk-on that gets no financial aid of any kind doesn't apply towards the 85....which makes sense since it's an 85 scholarship limit.
If the player was a recruited walk-on, a student-athlete who was recruited by Alabama's coaches and who receives the Bryant Scholarship, that player does not count against Alabama's scholarship numbers until he sees playing time.
This sounds right too. "Until he sees playing time". As soon as he does seeing game time, he counts towards the 85 because he's receiving financial aid, even if it's from the Dead Bear's Fund.
Again, I'm not arguing my opinion or what I read on my favorite website. I posted the actual NCAA rules regarding this....it seems it's pretty clear...at least to me.

A lot of jazz cats are blind. But, they can play the piano like nobody's business. I'd like to put the piano in front of Pam, without her glasses and see what happens. I'd also like to see her topless.

Now now. There are plenty of other discussions on this board that bore people to death.
just sayin'.

That's why I'm qualified to speak on the topic.

They reunited, ya know.
Did I ever tell you guys about the tattoo I saw last 4th of July?
Four-inch, gothic letters across this guido's back: CREED.
I laughed for a solid hour.
