It was one of the better comic book movies I have ever seen.

I love Batman, but Ironman really sort of beat the total dogshit out of any of the Batman movies.
Ironman struck the right balance between comic book goofy and super-hero action intensity.
The Batman franchise was either ridiculous and campy (the Keaton, Nicholson version), utterly ridiculous (nipple Robin and Mr. Freeze with Batgirl) or over-the-edge brooding (the Christian Bale version).
Superman all sucked ass. The last one was damn near unwatchable.
The Hulk failed in both attempts. CGI Hulk suck. Bad.
Spiderman came pretty close to catching it, but decided it had to tell a story and have a moral. It also had to have a 48-lb pussy playing the lead role and a bowling-ball-headed ugly ass non-acting tramp playing Mary Jane. You put Lindsay Lohan or Natalie Portman as MJ and Channing Tatum or somebody else in the Spiderman role? Then you'd have something. Spiderman was just never fun, particularly after the first one. Too much trying to emote.
Ironman gets all that right. Never preachy, never overly sentimental, never beating you over the head with some higher moral. Just fun.
I was expecting to dislike it, but was pleasantly surprised. Same with the first Transformers movie.

You did not just put those to girls in the same line. Thats like comparing Courtney Love to Kate Beckinsale. The better answer would have been Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman, but I agree with your premise.
As for the rest of your comparisons, Iron Man was great, cannot deny that fact. It also helps that Robert Downey, Jr. could act his way around Bale, Maguire, and whoever the fuck played Superman. I will say though that I equally enjoyed the Batman series (bruding version), and the first Spiderman. I kind of got sick at the whining Peter Parker Maguire by the middle of the 2nd one. I take each movie for its own, and I thought all of them were quite enjoyable.
As for the original Supermans, I was a kid when those were out, so even though they sucked by today's comparisons they will always have a special place in my heart.
