Title: Rainy Auburn
Post by: wesfau2 on September 16, 2009, 09:56:10 AM
40% chance of scattered T-storms during the day.
60% chance of precipitation during the night.

Does this:

a) Help Auburn and help WVU;
b) Help Auburn and hurt WVU;
c) Help WVU and hurt Auburn;
d) Hurt Auburn and hurt WVU.

What say you?  I think it hurts us, because Todd's already shaky passing will be hindered that much more by a wet ball.  I have not watched WVU, so I don't know diddly about their QB.

I say it's a run fest.  Let the best run D win.  I like our chances...

I agree.

I agree...for the first half.  Chasing Devine around will wear our guys out.

I actually think it helps us.  They seem to built more on speed where as we are more so on power.  We just run a speedy offense.

Tate makes them respect his authoritie.

Interesting.  I had not considered the nuanced difference in the two teams.  Tell me more about this "power" of which you speak.

So, McCalebb finally has a sub-100 yard day?  Or do they get heavy doses of Tate up the middle and then a fake to Tate and pitch out to McCalebb?

I'm gonna go with Chopper on this one.  I think it turns into a run fest.  In my non-professional opinion, I think WVU setting up on D with the 3-3-5 will cause some running lanes to be open for our backs.  If we can blow them off the line, get some good lanes opened up, it should be a long night for WVU.

I also think that our D getting worn out last year (which I know is no indication as to what will happen this year) was a product of our anemic offense on the field last year.  They made an adjustment second half and we looked like monkey ass the rest of the night.  It was just flat over.

I don't see that happening on the offensive side of the ball this year.  I think our D OUTLASTS the scoring from WVU...doesn't necessarily shut it down.  Devine will get his, but not enough to tip it to WVU.  JMO...

Just seems that up to this point there has been a misconception that we are slinging the ball all over the yard.  We haven't been.  We are running the ball 68.5% of the time up to this point.
It seems to me that up to this point we have used McCalebb for the speed factor and then gone to Tate and Fannin as  bruisers later in the game.  I think we continue pounding the ball and McCalebb gets his as well. Some will depend on what they come out with on defense.  For the first time in a LONG time I am comfortable that we will make adjustments on offense to what they are doing on defense.  Now whether we can execute it may be another story, I  don't think we are handicapped on the sidelines any longer when it comes to going where they ain't.

WVU gave up 20 points to Liberty (no, not the statue) and East Carolina.  That makes me feel pretty good about our offense lighting up the scoreboard again.

Run run run, pass and not necessarily in that order. Like already mentioned, if aint broke dont dix it. Lets not forget Smith in the backfield too. Its possible to see three 100+ rushers this week against WV. Let them stack the line, fine, I dont see WV hanging on all night.

I agree.  Devine > Dixon

For absolutely no discernible reason, I predict we will also get points from our defense - no reason, just a hunch.  Coleman had a lot of fun doing that last week, it seemed.  I just hope he doesn't get all QG (or was that Senderick?) on us and get the big head and go for the INT instead of the tackle...

I don't think it changes things much.  We're gonna run mostly anyway.  Unless you're Texas Tech playing in a 50 mph wind, some rain won't change things that much.  A sloppy field will hurt guys like Devine more than Tate.  Buy Brown is a big guy and he did run for 75 yds last week on just 10 carries.

Will be interesting.  Main thing is that it sucks for the 16 recruits that will be there for the game.
