Title: If and when Muschamp leaves...
Post by: Ogre on January 04, 2008, 09:05:04 AM
Who do we get to replace him?

 - Jeff Casteel, West Virginia DC.  I don't know if he is planning on joining Rich Rod at Michigan or staying at WVU, but since things are up in the air for him now might be a good time to try and get a foot in the door.  He had the #4 ranked total defense this year.

 - Vic Koenning, Clemson DC.  Led the Tigers to a #6 total defense this year, and was also the DC at Troy from 03-04.  Maybe he and Franklin could get together and talk shit about Larry Blakney.

 - Dick Bumpas, TCU DC.  Hard-assed and always produces a solid unit.

Who else is out there?

Is Mangina his own DC, or does he have someone in that spot?  If he does, experience running a D like they have had the last several years  would fit right in at Auburn IMO.

Bill Young DC KU....This Mother Fucker has been the DC at Oklahoma, Ohio State, USC, and the DL Coach for the Detroit Lions.  But, I heard he Sucks at recruiting, something about him not being a goddamn people person.
I've got people skills goddamnit!

I would want:

Will Muschamp: Defensive Coordinator for Texas....no wait thats not right.

Paul Rhoads: DC for Pittsburgh

and as already mentioned TCU's defensive coordinator as well.

Didn't Rhodes almost come to Auburn before they got Chizik?

I personally would prefer a DC who's name doesn't sound like a description of genital warts.

Why?  Is it a painful reminder of your own shortcomings?

Jack Bauer, Chuck Norris or Superman.

I'll accept no less.

Bauer's in jail.  Chuck Norris is hard at work on the Huckabee campaign trail, but he could moonlight as the DC.
A cleverly placed roundhouse kick would surely do wonders for the turnover ratio.

Supposedly the early candidate for WM's replacement is John Tenuta.  I thought he was on his way to LSU, but nothing has been signed yet, or even agreed to in principle.  I'm sure this one will drag out for a few days or so, but I'd be happy as hell with this hire if it were to take place.

Orgeron is a DL coach at heart (coached DL at USC). Our coaching position assignment makes it so that the Defensive Coordinator takes the role of the team's Secondary/Defensive Backs coach. Orgeron has no experience coaching the secondary so we'd more or less need to get rid of Coach Dunn for any Orgeron hire to happen, and that wont happen.

I would love to have another fiery guy like a Muschamp or Orgeron though. I think that kind of personality meshes well with Tubby.

Well Ogre your 1-1 on predictions...I hope you go 2-1 on this one, because this would be an awesome hire for us and about the only one that would make me go Muswho?
