Title: What's Fred Thompson Up To?
Post by: Tarheel on November 21, 2008, 02:35:00 PM
Well...after his uninspiring and unenthusiastic attempt at running for President he's apparently returning to acting...even after supposedly considering a bid for RNC Chairman ( ...pardon me).  I like Fred but he's making the right decision getting out of politics I think...he could have done worse and followed "The Huck" into his own boring show on FoxNews.

All criticism aside Fred would have been a better candidate than the man we got stuck with this year.

Maybe he'll keep writing commentaries for Townhall; they are usually much better than his campaign was.

This is from Townhall.com:

Former Sen. Fred Thompson plans return to acting

Friday, November 21, 2008

Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson is going back to the small screen after his foray into Republican presidential politics over the last year.

Thompson, best known on TV for his role as a gruff district attorney on NBC's "Law & Order," dropped out of the crowded GOP primaries in January after his much-anticipated presidential campaign failed to gain strong support among conservatives.

He campaigned heavily for eventual nominee John McCain, and had recently tried to gain support to be in charge of the Republican National Committee.

But his former finance chairman, B.C. "Scooter" Clippard, said Thompson told him Wednesday that he was returning to acting and dropping his RNC bid.

"He seriously considered it, but he called and said that it was not in the cards," Clippard said.

Clippard said he did not know which television programs might be interested in Thompson.

"He has some wonderful opportunities back in the television market that probably financially far outweigh being chair of the RNC," Clippard said.

Thompson, 66, was a lawyer and character actor before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1993, only to turn his back on politics after his first full term in favor of a full-time acting career in 2002.

Thompson began his acting career playing himself in the film "Marie" in 1985, about a high-profile legal case he handled in Tennessee.

And while his presidential ambitions didn't pan out, at least Thompson got to play the commander in chief as Ulysses S. Grant in the 2007 TV movie "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee."

These career Republipukes make me sick.  Of course, the Dummpcraps are far worse, but these guys just gave away the United States to the dark side.  They had it all, but they fucked it up by following the same path as the Dummycraps.  It's time to replace them all.

Meh, I liked Fed Thompson and was a big supporter.  But....I was more excited about his campaign than he was and that is what crushed his chances.  Good Senator and I like the man, but yes, he needs to step aside.

Personally, I am ready for a young conservative to step up.  Bob Jindal comes to mind.

A lot of us would like to see him take over for Saxby.

He is a true conservative and has served us well. It's time folks like him take their diligence to the national stage. We can only pray that these types of legislators do not get to Washington and get swallowed up by the greed and corruption that pervades our capital.

I couldn't agree with you more CCTAU!  I had a chance to meet Senator Rogers a few weeks back but I could not make the event.  He's a solid conservative.

You must live near me if you know about Chip Rogers too.

Chip lives in my neighborhood. My kids and his go to school together. Funny thing is, he looks 50 but I don't even think he's 40 yet.

I know how he may feel; I went grey early in my life too.
