Title: How Will The SEC Look?
Post by: Snaggletiger on June 01, 2023, 11:23:09 AM
I’m sure everyone has heard all the different possible scenarios for SEC scheduling once Oklahoma and Texas arrive.  In addition, the playoffs expanding to 12 teams may have an effect on conference alignment.  So, that raises some questions:

Would you prefer 8 or 9 conference games?  My preference is staying at 8, but it being mandatory to have at least two Power 5 programs on your OOC schedule.

Do you want to see the conference remain divided into East and West conferences, or go to the basketball format?  Personally, I like the East and West divisions, but would like to see the alignments make more sense geographically.

How many teams, if any, should be yearly staples on the schedule?  And who would you want to keep?  I don’t want to lose the Iron Bowl.  That’s a keeper, regardless.  And as bad as we’ve been lately, we’ve been playing FUGA since Abe Freakin’ Lincoln was the Prez.  I’d want to keep that rivalry.

What say you?

Should be 8 with 1 permanent and 7 rotating. No more FCS teams. Two P5s out of the conference mandatory (home and away). G5s are fine but ONE should be from in your state or the nearest HBCU.

I say that I am not a smart man. I’d argue that I once was but that’s neither hear nor their. I am brain damaged.

But at least I am smart enough to understand that In order to keep Georgia as a yearly game, we must go to 9 games.

Geeze Louise.

Some people are idiots.

I like the idea of division-less conference rankings based on playing results.

If they go this route, do they still have the SECCG?  Obviously, they would, simply because of money.  I'd be fine with doing away with that game, even though I've had some damn good times going to the ATL for it.

I mean as a way to determine the two participants.

So are we talking about hypothetical scenarios in which we get our druthers?

I’m not following Snag’s. And I can’t get behind him, either.

You do realize it is already decided that it will be 1 of 2 possibilities, right?

They decided that last year. It’s either 8 with one perm or 9 with 3 perm. The rest rotate.

This is already a done deal. Now, they decide between the 2 choices. The last I read, it seems 8 was leading.

So, we lose thuga, I assume.

I’d prefer 9 but it’s like my grandaddy used to say.

And the championship game was gone as of last year.

You don’t know anything for a fact.

And you certainly don’t know anything about what’s going on with the SEC.

He once threw a pigskin a quarter mile. Snags is a man of great esteem. Just watch your back bucko.

Pretty sure it was a foreskin that he threw that distance, which is more impressive as they aren’t very aerodynamic.

SEC, sans divisions, going with 8-game conference slate in '24

Alex Scarborough, ESPN Staff Writer

The SEC won't be moving to a nine-game conference schedule after all. But it will be going forward in 2024 without divisions.

Commissioner Greg Sankey told reporters Thursday that the league has approved a temporary eight-game conference schedule for the 2024 football season when it welcomes Texas and Oklahoma to the league.

Sankey said that the league will continue exploring scheduling options for 2025 and beyond.

Sankey had strongly hinted at his preference for a nine-game conference schedule leading up to the SEC's spring meetings in Destin, Florida, this week. The proposal would have featured three permanent opponents, which would preserve long-standing rivalries, as well as six rotating opponents.

...

Other than the obvious rivalries such as Alabama-Auburn, Georgia-Florida and Mississippi State-Ole Miss, sources told ESPN's Chris Low that a priority for the league would be preserving other long-standing rivalries such as Alabama-Tennessee, Auburn-Georgia and Texas-Texas A&M during the 2024 season.

There were a number of issues causing concern among stakeholders regarding the nine-game conference schedule. Among them: competitive balance and the desire for more revenue in return for the additional conference game.

Asked about the possibility of being compensated for an extra conference game, Sankey said he believes, "Money follows. It doesn't lead."

I don't particularly care about the Egg Bowl, but I'll watch, because it's large, sweaty young men banging into each other. But, that's just my thing.

Srsly, I'll opt to check out some MACtion on a Wednesday night, with 1,200 people in the stands, just because it's football.

Oh, for sure.  Just wondered if anyone was caught up in the drama, the pageantry, the intrigue of the...Egg Bowl.

Echo GH...HARD no!

Loved seeing Kiffin continue his string of stellar coaching decisions, and get egg on his face.
