Title: Moving on up
Post by: JohnDeere on November 05, 2008, 11:43:41 AM
The video was removed once, and you blatantly disregarded our no racism rule AGAIN.

You are ignorant scum as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not necessarily pleased with the outcome of the election either, but we have basically ONE rule and you FREQUENTLY disregard it.

No one's trying to flex e-penis here, but if you continue to spit in the face of the mods around here any more, you'll be gone. Sooner than later.

Or not as the case may be.

Can't we be just a little racist?  We make fun of white people and homosexuals, why is everything else of limits?

A "little racist", or subtle race-related humor is ok in my book. I'm not playing PC Police. See my Combo Breaker pic in the "One Good Thing" thread.

Saying a National Geographic video of a primitive African tribal dance is Obama's inauguration ball is blatantly racist, and over that line. Especially coming from someone who continues to prove his is a bigot with 95% of the posts he makes.

I thought that your post was racially insensitive...but humorous.  :poke:

Uhhhh.. I hate to tell you, but that's what happened last night/today in Kenya or whereever.  They all went out and danced that the socialist appeaser was elected.  Just like they did in the streets of Paris. Bunch of fags twirling around in joy that this guy got voted in by the dumbest electorate in the history of mankind.

So I would have found the tribal dance both amusing and informative.

THIS is how FUCKED UP we are...

Are you sure it wasn't a "Fity Cent" bill?...which, by the way, is all we will have left after the Democrats socialists tax the hell out of us all to spread the wealth around to those who don't pay any taxes.

I'm going to go on record as disagreeing with the removals.

Dave Chappelle would have used both.

I'm sick of certain types of people being off limits. We can make Klan jokes, fag jokes, lesbian jokes, Islamic jokes, European jokes, Russian jokes, Polish jokes and honky jokes. But we can't make black ones. Fuck that. I voted for CHANGE, dammit. And one of the changes I want is that we can crack on whoever we want regardless of their ethnicity.

I tend to agree.  There were no references to the N word or nooses or crosses burning.  These are good humored spoofs for god's sake.  People need to loosen up a little and learn to laugh at themselves.  Remeber it was the dems doing things like hanging Palin by a noose in effigy and they all defended the peoples right to do such.  Where are our rights to spoof the Obama?

Are you seriously making the argument that joking on the Klan is equivalent to joking on an ethnicity? No one said he's off limits to be joked on because he is black. Blatant racism is off limits on this board, like it or not.

I have a South Park reference for every occasion.
Quote
Stan:     Hey, isn't that kid Kevin Chinese?
Kyle:            Yeah. You're from China.
Kevin:    No, I'm from America. My parents are Chinese.
Stan:    Tell us how the Chinese play dodgeball!
Kevin:    I have no idea, dude.
Cartman:    Come on, rice-picker!
Chef:    Hey, hey hey! Children, that's not cool! You don't make fun of somebody because of their ethnicity!
Stan:    You don't?
Kyle:       But Chef, you just ripped on Chinese people.
Chef:    Nonononono. That's different. I made fun of them because they are from China. You see, it's not okay to make fun of an American because they're black, brown, or whatever, but it is okay to make fun of foreigners because they are from another country.

Yeah, Dave would have definitely used the Watusi dance.

And I'm saying that joking on ANYTHING is equivalent.  I didn't see "blatant racism" in either of the posts that were yanked.  How do you define "blatant racism"  anyway?  Have you ever seen Aunt Jemima or Mrs. Butterworth?  Pillsbury Doughboy?

How the fuck can you joke on Obama's blackness and yet not be "racist"?

I agree with any racist bullshit being taken down, but I disagree with the "I'm your daddy" tone used in doing it in public.  VERRRRYYYYYYY Titan-esque, no matter how much you might not agree.

I appreciate enforcing the one rule we have, but acting like Captain Whoop Ass, then not listening to other level headed debates and opinions is a little weak.

Just my opinion.

I'm all about equal opportunity when it comes joking and ripping on people.  I rip on myself far more than others.  I think with defining "Blatant racism", it's more of a situation where you have to say, "I can't define it, but I damn sure know it when I see it."  It should be blatantly obvious the difference between "That damn black" and "Yo, my niggah".  Playing off and having fun with cultural traits and stereotypes should be perfectly acceptable with regard to any race.  I hate to admit it, but Chapelle is the perfect example.  He took it to that level very few would have ever gone in that forum, and it shouldn't be acceptable or okay to laugh at just because it was a black man doing it.  It was funny...period.

I personally find a double standard equally offensive as flat out racism.

I'm a contrarian. My nature.

I'm sorry that ethnic humor offends certain people. Nothing posted today was "blatantly racist".  I'm, quite frankly, highly and personally offended by jokes or discussions of intoxicated behavior. Once you start drawing subjective lines based on one person's individual preferences, well.....

Blackface is intrinsically racist.  From its roots in minstrel shows to the seminal "Daddy Jim Crow" character.  It is never in good taste or good humor.  See, for example: any frat boy in black face on halloween or the uproar over Ted Danson smearing the stuff on.

For an insightful look into the subject, check out the movie Bamboozled.

The all black face (made up or not) with comically white eyes and teeth is the archetype of the blackface caricature.  The elements are there.

I was busting on an all black high school band a while back on teh nation.  I was talking about how they threw shit out of joint that I don't even think I have.  They were pumpin' and grindin' and wigglin' and jigglin'.  I made the comment that 3 people got pregnant during the half time show.  Somebody chimed in about how racist that was.

Sorry, nope, don't think so.  That's a cultural thing.  Black bands compete to see who can be the most outrageous on the field.  Hell, they've made movies about it.  Drum Line for one (Which I've watched about 9 times)  Perfectly acceptable to bust on that type of thing.

I'm up in the air about this role, mostly because I haven't seen the movie and can't speak to my reaction to it.  On the surface, my gut reaction is not favorable.

C'mon now...it's funny.  I think Kaos is actually making a good point here.  There has to be a line where racial sensetivity clashes with blatant racism, but I'm not sure that anything Kaos has posted has approached blatant racism.

It's okay to laugh about one another.  There isn't anything malicious about that.  I wish I saw the original video in this thread so I can see why Chizad got so heated about it.

Okay, that's your opinion.  I don't like it much either, but mainly because I think Ben Stiller is the sorriest excuse for a comedic actor in human history, outside Will Ferrell. I'd delete it just on those grounds. If I was a dictator, I'd delete anything that referred to inebriated behavior because I find that incredibly boorish and offensive. But this isn't a dictatorship?

I maintain we should be cautious determining what is "racist" by using the litmus test of whether it offends one person or not.  I'm opposed to quick triggers. I also think we should be extremely careful about bashing each other in this type of open forum. Calling each other scumbags and racists has awful AUN undertones and it's not the sort of thing us pilgrims expected when we got on the Mayflower and sailed over to this new country.  If we wanted to be publicly upbraided by a "moderator" we could have stayed there.  Well, some of you could have.

I'm not defending what was posted so much as I'm opening fire on the way it was handled and the precipice public moderation can lead to.

And while we're at it, we can send them all the threads about drunken behavior, where we make fun of homosexuals, where we say big words like "shit, fuck, hell and damn."  Send them the ones where we ogle women. And lesbians!  They'll think we're sooooo fucking cool then!!

Christ man, can you not see that you're channeling Davey, Titan, Stoic and the rest with this entire episode?

Blow the fuck up, rape and pillage a thread, call out a member in public and then rail about the super duper importance of of this board to recruiting and the future of Auburndom?

First, I agree with Chad and Wes.  I would have handled things differently, but I agree with the action taken.  We have TWO FUCKING RULES on this board, and if we start allowing shades of gray on one, where does it end?  Why does race have to be brought up at all?  What fucking difference does it make that Obama is half black?  Debate on his shitty policies and leave the color of his skin out of it.  I just don't see how it's that fucking hard.

Hey...I see what you did there.

Alright, let's take a collective deep breath and step back a moment.  I think we're seeing a combination of the "button-pushing" attitude that we all share and some soreness over the election results.

Most of us are button-pushers.  If we know something bothers you, we will fucking do that thing over and over to get under your skin.  I think that's what we're seeing here in this thread.

Furthermore, politics (despite our high-minded arguments about the merits of each candidate) has become a high-stakes game: you choose your horse and ride that fucker to the finish line.  When your horse doesn't win, you are liable to be bitter towards the winner.  We're seeing some of that here in this thread as well.

We do need a "tight ass" emoticon.  ...and you sir, are a Ghandi ignoramoose.

EXACTLY...someone is getting non-violent protests mixed up with "passive protest" which, as has been pointed out, is an oxymoron.   :poke:

It is, but I think Taylor is trying to say that Ghandi's practice of "ahimsa" (non-violence), somehow translates to protesting by not doing anything.  Not doing anything, and not voicing an opinion, is just that.....not doing anything and not saying anything.

Ghandi fasted in protest, but also organized marches, made political speeches and even organized military medical units in protest to the British rule in India.   He hardly sat and did nothing, then got shot because he was doing anything but nothing.

That was my point.  Arguing the opposite would be arguing just to argue....

I will exercise "passive protest" if an argument IS made.... :vn:

...and yeah.. RACISM = BAD!

Jimminy Christmas, I leave town for a day and it all goes to shit.

I agree, the racist shit will be removed, if you dont like it fuck off.

How's RB2 going?  Any new songs?  I'll be picking up at least the guitar version along with another guitar Friday...not sure I'm buying the whole things with drums.

Here's something I found interesting.

The Obamabill and its retraction from the site kicked off the entire debate.  Since it was pulled from the site, I have received it at least six separate times in an email.

One was from a fairly high-ranking person in Auburn administration.
One was from a member of the UofA athletic staff.
One was from the chief executive of a small company
One was from a retired businessman.
One was from the head of a major state agency (not in Alabama or even in the South)
One was from the head of a large non-profit.

Of the people who sent me the same image that was pulled from here, two were women one was black.  None know me well enough to know my political affiliations or my attitudes toward racial issues.

Funny, but it's OK because Obama isn't the butt of a joke.

Now, check this one out. Any of you familiar with the commericals for Frankie and Johnnie's Furniture in New Orleans? When I lived in Bay St Louis, I would always get a kick out of these. This one may cross a line with some people since they use the allure of Chicken Box fried chicken to target minorities. To Frankie and Johnnie's defense, Chicken Box fried chicken is the shit.

So what about this?

And there was, again, no blackface today.  There was a bill where you couldn't see Obama (haha, because he's black).  It wasn't even that funny, it was just a play on his blackness. But because somebody had the audacity to notice he was a black man and made a funny about it, we got to have a three page epenii-induced debate.
BTW not racist and pretty funny.

"That's C-4, dipshit. Put that back. I said a detonator! I need some dudes who speak American god dammit! He's making a fucking sweater here, I'm tryin' to put Tiger Balm on this jungle's nuts."

See, I find that even more racist than the dollar bill.  In doing the schtick, he's perpetuating every stereotype in the book.

Apparently he even stayed in character during down-time.  He would, in his character's voice, loudly proclaim that he was going back to his trailer to eat ribs.

The black folks on the set were apparently a little disturbed.

I like Downey, but I'm still up in the air about this...has the reek of a minstrel show.

You need to see the movie Wes...it was funny and the racist stuff was dealt with by the real black man in the movie.

Kaos I know how you feel about the actors in this movie so, you should not see this movie.

Alpa Chino is Brandon Jackson (a real black man), Kirk Lazarus: is Downey (An actor playing, a dude playing, a black man)

Kevin Sandusky: There's no way we make it over that ridge before sundown.
Kirk Lazarus: All right fellas, we're gonna make camp, rest up. Y'all might be in for a treat. You know back before the war broke out I was a saucier in San Antone. I bet I could collar up some of them greens, yeah, some crawfish out the paddy, yo'! Ha! I'm makin' some crabapples for dessert now, yo! Hell yeah, ha!
Alpa Chino: [mocking Kirk] Hell yeah! Ha! That's how we all talk? We all talk like dis, "suh"? Yes suh, ha! Yeah mmm-hmm get some crawfish, and some ribs, ha! Ye-aah. You're Australian! Be Australian! Excuse me, Kangaroo Jack!
[hops away like a kangaroo]
Kirk Lazarus: [confused] I get excited about my foods, man.

Satire is lost on some people...

It was suposed to be racist and offensive. That's the joke. The blonde haired, blue eyed actor who "is getting into the role" is basically doing blackface. That's the joke.
Now if Cowboy the Alabama fan did it without a hint of irony or satire, it would be offensive.

Yeah, I saw it the day it came out.

I wasn't all that crazy about it, personally. I thought the idea of the movie was hilarious, but the way it played out was too predictable and cliche, and I didn't laugh very much after the opening fake trailers which had me fuckin dying.

Danny McBride is hilarious. He also saved Pineapple Express. Fucking hysterical in Hot Rod.
